If there's any chance of us getting the Galvatron that the Covenant book spoke of to appear in this show, I could see Quillfire as having once been a member of Random, which was Galvatron's cult of chaos.

Honestly, I don't think such a mold could pull this off. A DRAGON can come out way more easely out of a jet than a wolf for sure.
Still, I do like the "anthro" Decepticon concept. I wonder if these forms would ever be explained? My random guess is some sort of McGuffin Device fused the Predacons and Decepticons together, creating that weird hybrid species of transformers.
