You must understand and welcome change, or else you will be a miserable person for the rest of your life. Especially in a franchise about change and becoming something better. You may haaaaate G1 with a passion, but the ratings prove this formula works (unlike Bay's), so you should be happy your favorite brand isn't on the verge of death.
When Bay released the first Transformers movie, we were desperate. We were just happy to see the brand finally coming into the cinematic spotlight. But once again, after over a DECADE, the franchise became desperate. And by God, it is once again saved. So I wanna hear no whining after a DECADE of your flopping movies (although I did enjoy DotM) and having to put up with us being the butt of every sci fi movie joke.
Transformers can finally be esteemed for its movies, and may even become a more popular brand as a whole because someone like Travis Kight wasn't afraid of putting this vision onto the big screen, despite how negatively Bay spoke about it. Let's all be thankful for the immense positives, not strain at the ant of nostalgia for Bay.

Optimus toys sell, so I would not expect fewer of them anytime soon.

Anyway, I kind of like the over all design. It's kind of what I had hoped to see way back in '07. G1 in inspiration, with a heavy spoonful of modernization.
Looks like a pretty neat toy actually. Do I need another Frieghtliner Prime? Probably not.

People, put your feet in the shoes of Hasbro. YEARS we complained about not enough G1. Then they released G1 Prime in CW. "Not good enough. Too chunky."
Then Titans Return voyager and leader. "Not G1 enough. Gimmick too obtrusive. Colors suck. Plane mode sucks."
Then PotP. "Too big for most CHUG. Need a G1 voyager."
Siege brings a G1 voyager. "Good robot, weird alt mode."
They decide to reissue G1 vintage Optimus. "No trailer. Eh. I don't care."
Then because people liked the Cybertron design for Siege Magnus and thought it would make a good voyager Optimus, they figured a Cybertron Optimus homage was in order. "Who would like this? Not me, therefore nobody. Nope."
Then they release this **** EPIC G1 movie design for Optimus. "TOO MANY OPTIMUS PRIMES! Ya all are RUINING THE FRANCHISE!" Get your HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES and realize if you don't like thing, DON'T **** BUY THING! **** I need a break from **** internet people..
Edit: Also take note how insulting you are as a fandom to those designers who you basically treat like slaves. If their hard work doesn't satisfy you, you insult them. If they work more to try and make something better or just REISSUE THE ORIGINAL essencially as a GIFT to the fandom as a bonus and unrelated to the main lines thing, you call them a bunch of G1 cock suckers. I love the brand, but am ASHAMED ofthis fandom.
I have to agree with you. I am new to the forums (just started into collecting Masterpiece) and 75% of posts are just complaining about the flaws, faults, and mistakes. A lot of folks just complain that the toy that was released isn't the one they wanted, which is inevitably a different list for each. I thought there would be more focused critiques of the work that was put into each figure on a fan forum, rather than just a churn of negativity.

I prefer too them sodium tsunamis....
I like this new figure very much asthetically. It seems like the natural evolutionary blend we *should* have gotten out of the gate. I suppose the one downside to "awesome movie level details" a lack of 5mm ports foor all the dakka.... T_T
I truly don't mind that there is such a plethora of primes to choose from.... It mostly just frustrates me when we get a studio series prime (first release) and then "tweaked and re-released" with Jetfire compatability. Kind of like the two different Studio Starscreams.... would it be so wrong to have the designers "pick one" out of the gate, instead of bloating?

Thing is, it is not just 40+ year olds, which is funny considering this is the Prime design the older G1 fandom has been asking for. It's a very divisive toy and look for that 5 minutes of movie it is. It seriously should have been part of a whole new story and look, not a prequel.
And see, it's not options really. it's total brand awareness, diversity is starting to fade. Like it or not, the movie verse for many of us, like this 23 year old, was our way in, and it is starting to fade out of its very different feel and defaulting back.
As long as this is a one off, I'm ok with it.
SillyMcGilly wrote:People, put your feet in the shoes of Hasbro. YEARS we complained about not enough G1. Then they released G1 Prime in CW. "Not good enough. Too chunky."
They released 2, and I still say Battlecore Prime is an awesome figure (never got the first one)
SillyMcGilly wrote:Then Titans Return voyager and leader. "Not G1 enough. Gimmick too obtrusive. Colors suck. Plane mode sucks."
It was a fair point considering the plane mode and it was a very obvious pretool, but still decent. And TR was strange cause we got 3 Primes, the leader and the 2 different versions of the voyager, and I like the black voyager. It's a decent if limited toy
SillyMcGilly wrote:Then PotP. "Too big for most CHUG. Need a G1 voyager."
Also fair regarding scale, but basically a poor mans masterpiece. Was the cartoon go to. Not the greatest, but not horrible
SillyMcGilly wrote:Siege brings a G1 voyager. "Good robot, weird alt mode."
Sometimes weird is ok, and in this case, the Siege line has basically garnered universal praise minus some nickpicks.
SillyMcGilly wrote:They decide to reissue G1 vintage Optimus. "No trailer. Eh. I don't care."
Some might, but most others still commit to buying it, it's a neat opportunity.
SillyMcGilly wrote:Then because people liked the Cybertron design for Siege Magnus and thought it would make a good voyager Optimus, they figured a Cybertron Optimus homage was in order. "Who would like this? Not me, therefore nobody. Nope."
I haven't really seen anyone decline the opportunity for a Leader Cybertron Prime. It's why several people are now waiting to get the voyager to see the Leader.
It just takes a bit more of a commitment to try than just commit to a simple homage
SillyMcGilly wrote:Then they release this **** EPIC G1 movie design for Optimus. "TOO MANY OPTIMUS PRIMES! Ya all are RUINING THE FRANCHISE!" Get your HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES and realize if you don't like thing, DON'T **** BUY THING! **** I need a break from **** internet people..
Really no need to swear so much.
And again, it seems a lot of people are not liking the design. It's that simple. It would be like if you made Season 4 of the G1 cartoon Transformers Energon. It is a very big difference in style that should be it's own thing, not making its way into this. I am one of those that love the movie designs, and now that the movies are trying to move that direction, when we already got the perfect blend of G1/movie in Prime, and it was a great show, it doesn't feel needed and is totally an attempt at brand awareness.

Hey, these toys still sell. Some of us pass, others buy. I've seen no one here call the reissues an attempt at "sucking" as they are just a bonus, not a mainline.

The people (for the most part), having the biggest issue with this new Prime toy are the ones who became fans post the 2007 movie. They have a distinct visual style to their fan love. For me, I honestly don't see this Prime as that far removed from bayformers. It still clearly belongs to that category. I think he fits in just fine with the movie aesthetic. Yeah, the design is more G1 influenced, but I think it is still a far cry from what I (I say again, I) consider traditional Transformer design. Its also why I think more and more that Bumblebee is not a prequel, but a reboot.
I guess I don't really have a point, other than I find it cool that Transformers has been around long enough to have very clearly marked generations of fans.

@Ironhidensh: I agree wholeheartedly. I admit I have not seen the movie yet, though I will on Sunday. So I can't say for certain whether it is a prequel or soft reboot, but I feel it may be the latter due to its major but not 100% style change. Seems like a bridge to something new, but not necessarily the whole new thing. Like this movie could be seen as a prequel to the previous ones, or the first of a new series, and it wouldn't matter whichever someone may say because the movie is constructed that way. But I will say, this Optimus? It's exactly what I always envisioned in a proper cinematic version of the old Optimus Prime I love so dearly. This figure shall be mine. (Along with the G1 reissue, hopefully.

D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Before i start, I know I sound really negative on this toy, and I am trying not to sound this bad, but simply put, the total brand awareness is starting to grate. And this toy is the movie verse beginning to try to be worked into that, and considering how cool Shatter and Dropkick ended up, why we couldn't keep going with the original movie concept is disappointing to us who came in with the movies and love them.
Probably might not mean much overall, but I went to see the movie again on the 17'th because I won some tickets in the draw (So I've seen the movie twice now and planning a third with family) and there was a Paramount representative there (Really nice guy, very sincere, asked me questions about my thoughts on things like the previous movies and other Transformers franchise stuff, he wrote a lot of notes down, he also seemed to be a fan of the Transformers franchise)
I spent like 10-15 minutes talking to the guy about many things, both about how the movie was as a whole (And not just saying the Cybertron scenes were awesome and want more of that and such) with both the good points and the not as good points.
I won't talk about everything I talked to the guy about in this post (I'll do that in one of the movie review threads) but one thing I did talk about was that going forward that one of things they should do when choosing the robot cast for the movies is that they should also pull from the more obscure parts of the franchise, I named a few examples including the Unicron Trilogy and the IDW comics, the two characters I talked about in depth were Hot Shot and...uh took the time to request more Nitro Zeus from TLK because the guy is my fave Decepticon in the whole franchise...more so for the potential of the character then actual execution.
Sorry I'm rambling, my TLDR is that I respectfully pushed for more representation for the more obscure stuff for the franchise and how fans have been asking for that sort of "fresh" representation alongside the classic Transformers characters.
Anyone wants to hear more I'll be posting the rest of my "interview" in the spoiler review, might not pop up till tomorrow since there was quite a bit I talked about such as what any potential sequels should do, what should be done with more Cybertron flashbacks in future movies, that the Bee movie should be a reboot instead of a prequel, parts of the Bee film that should be revisited in future movies, ETC

I was actually referring to the Chaos on Velocitron set Laser Prime.
Also, Having seeing the movie tonight with friends (the first time in ages I have gone with just friends), IT WAS FRIKKIN FANTASTIC.
And actually, even though they still aren't a full match, the Cybertron scenes felt a little better in the theater. It makes this feel slightly more OK because the scenes themselves in the movie were better than the trailers I had been seeing.
In short: this Prime looks a decent bit better once you see the awesome movie
