Kurona wrote:Well, the trope of 'overly violent rogue that eventually joins the main team and learns to turn it down a notch' has been used a few times in the franchise. Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure RiD 2001 Ultra Magnus and Armada Blurr fit that mold somewhat. And then there's some that never learned the lesson and were just flat out horrible; Marvel Flame and IDW Skyfall for instance.

I do like the idea, especially when you're attempting to show the two sides as not just ultimate good and ultimate evil. Throw in a bit of gray not just by making the Decepticons a bit more sympathetic, but also by making some Autobots genuinely bad and violent. I always thought the Monsterbots would work especially well for this...

I'm thinking of a character that is a combination of the two descriptions your saying on missions he is completely blood thirsty never learns except for maybe near the end of the show while off missions he is chill and respectable but still obviously off his rocker so pretty much IDW Whirl is who i'm describing.

A good rounded Autobot cast for a new show would be something like this in my opinion: The wise (Optimus), learning (Rid Bumblebee) or confident leader (Mtmte Rodimus but actually competent) followed by The calm and collected second in commands (Prowls or Jazzes), rookie that becomes experienced by the end (Bees,Hottytooshotty,Smokeys), a kind medic or a cranky medic who learns to let go (Ratchets in general), a serious (Cyb Jetfire) or quippy (Airraids) flyer, the big guy in any personality (Ironhides, Bulkheads, Grimlocks), a super cool badass sports car(Sideswipes,Jazzes), a rogue type (Crosshairs,Ratttraps), a quirky engineer (Wheeljack, Brainstorm, Nautica) finally a few sixth rangers and/or a Combiner team that join the cast afterwards.

As well as a murderous guy in there somewhere.

If there had to be females make sure their not the token female as in there is only one of them per show (Most Arcees) I enjoy Rid Windblade for this very reason since much rather there be no females at all then just one but then again I don't really care for defined genders in robots.

Pretty sure that was the intent of the Monsterbots to be monstrous characters completely unlikable except for the fact that their unlikable.

Continuing on you know that moment when dressing up like Optimus for Halloween isn't enough and you just have to become him literately?

Me neither but these guys know.

On a whim, decided to call every TRU within a 2 and a half hour drive of me (there are only 4) and none of them are carrying the set either at the moment, not even a price tag.

Boo distribution. you strike me to the heart once more

Maybe they are not Robots but Robot like Aliens.

Going by the aligned continuity the ratio of male (or gender non-defined) to Female is about 11 or 12 to 1.

Though those numbers may differ for Maximals and Predacons and There is the unresolved issues related to how multiple characteristics interact.

For example a female Minicon would relate to 2 ancient primes and not just Solus Prime. then there is the whole question of if Females should even exist at all once Solus is dead and likewise for any other archetypes who are also dead.

Then there is the question of what characteristics would even be being passed on by say Alpha Trion for example. Or if Optimus Prime' legacy is from Prima or Alpha Trion.

My head hurts. But anyway 1-12 seems about right to me for Transformers Fembot numbers or indeed any other archetype like Minicons too.

So because both figures were considered best of the year at some points...

You are in a nightmare scenario where you have to pick between TR Triggerhappy or TR Blurr (or Legends Blurr, or any of the Brainstorms or whatever version of the mold you feel is your favourite). Which one do you pick?

And no cheating by saying you'd just get another version of the toy you didn't pick! :P

You go Triggerhappy. Of the first 3 waves, that figure is amazing and probably the best figure available right now, and in the past year or 2.

and yes, I do like Twinferno more cause me, but I will not deny that Triggerhappy is the best figure of the past several years

I don't recall Blurr ever being called the best of the year. He wasn't even the best of his wave.

Ya know at first I thought I could wait for Misfire. But then a well known Australian man told me I needed him. I thought, eh I don't know, maybe if I see him. Fast forward and I find Wave 3 at Target and I only bought Triggerhappy of the 4.

Also, about the Laser Prime questions, isnt he just a modern update of the G2 Optimus toy? How is he seen as anything else?

In order of awesomeness, skullsmasher, hardhead, scourge, the plastic bands holding the figures to the packaging, then blurr.

Kidding.

Well kinda, I have the generations Blurr and I love it. Awesome in almost every way.
Then this "update" comes out and doesn't really look like the Blurr I know, as I'm not a G1 fan. Its very thin and awkward looking. It just didn't impress me. Others may like it, and good for them, but I feel absolutely nothing towards it, neither love nor hate.

The only reason I got him was he came in the 4 pack from bbts.
I figured as slender as it was I could custom a fembot out of it. Never did, just transformed him once and put it in storage.

Really like the other three in his wave though, skullsmasher is one of the most enjoyable tfs I've messed with, and hardhead's transformation is quick enough that I do it often. And IDW scourge is pretty much the same as G1 scourge, so he's perfect.

The Voyager Optimus Prime/Octane mold is the ultimate exercise in using two character bases for a single toy. The main robot mode detailing is mostly Laser Optimus Prime, but the air plane addition is all Octane. The idea of switching out parts between the two characters helps out, but Octane still has Prime's detailing. Megatron/Blitzwing on the other hand...
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

The Blurr base mold is one of the best churned out by Takara. Heck, he shares it with another great like Brainstorm. Anyone saying otherwise is, well, something wrong with his optics or brain or in denial.

I actually play with Blurr a heck of a lot - I do slightly prefer Chromedome though - but Blurr is a great fiddle-former as he's so easy to Transform back and forth and he has none of the minior issues that some of the other have and a lot of them have some flaw or other. Indeed Blurr has a flaw too - but it's his chronic lack of paint rather than a structural issue. But even though he's broadly playable his tolerances on his gun and the holes to plug it into isn't perfect.

OK, now that the pics are out...

Quickswitch is literally just Sixshot with new colours and a new head. If they wanted to redeco Sixshot, why not Greatshot?

Nautica looks...OK. Not brilliant, but not terrible. Just OK. If MMC makes a Not-ica I'll buy that.

Laser Optimus Prime WOULD be fantastic but A: that blue is a smidge too pale, and B: Those stickers are a bloody trainwreck. A shame, but there you go I suppose.

Fastlane is cool, but not cool enough to justify the price of admission.

Rodimus, see above. Meh.

Overall I'm distinctly unimpressed. Still, if Takara releases Fastlane separately I might buy it. Maybe.

This right here kinda drives me bananas why not use the character who traditionally was a Sixshot repaint? Like it's cool that quickswitch is getting some love but it's such an odd choice.

Yes, in fact it is part of the transformation. He basically has a bar extending from the back of his head to the spoiler. That also means you end up turning the spoiler with the head.

This right here kinda drives me bananas why not use the character who traditionally was a Sixshot repaint? Like it's cool that quickswitch is getting some love but it's such an odd choice.

Because perhaps more people give a darn about Quickswitch then a obscure Japanese only character that's not even that popular compared to say Six Shot or Overlord?

I'd say that Hasbro probably thought Quickswitch was a higher priority.

Yes. Now go to your room and don't play with yourself.

See, you'd think that... but Quickswitch's only real appearance was in a single Marvel UK comic strip which had no relevance to anything else going on in the comics. Compare that to Greatshot who was a regular character in a show that's quite beloved by a not-so-insignificant portion of the fandom.

They're both very obscure characters to be sure. I highly doubt that if Greatshot was in the set instead of Quickswitch, significantly less people would be interested.
