But sentinel's essentially a new character, so whats wrong here?
No he's not. If anything sentinel prime is the iron man of transformers not a headmaster.
Not... really. Sentinel Prime is one of those weird characters that never has a very well-defined place, set of morals or what sort of guy he was. Optimus you can expect him to be an Autobot leader who stands up for freedom and justice; Starscream you can expect to be a devious Decepticon in a high position with great flight prowess and designs on betraying Megatron... but Sentinel? In his three main appearances - Animated, IDW and Dark of the Moon - he's seemed completely different in each one. They share some aspects but there's no one version of the guy you can point to and say "That's the definite sentinel". All we can really expect is that he's a Prime who is not quite as good as Optimus as upholding the grandiose and nobility that rank grants, yet somehow ends up with a great reputation. And details of even those aspects always seem to vary. So... yeah. Making him a Headmaster? Not really farfetched, especially when G1 Sentinel has never had an official toy before.

Plus he's never had a definitive toy nor a definitive character, so, yes, he's a new character that happens to look a little like idw sentinel, as for the g1 version, I don't think he was even named in the show, he was a complete throw away character.

He was named in the UK comics, and made an appearance there (a bit of a dying one..), but otherwise you're right.
Also, yay, first post away from TFW!(a bit off topic so I apologize)

This is what I love about this line. While I'm only planning on getting the legends and titan masters from TR (I'm going TT for the remainder of the line), they all look fragging awesome! The heads look much better than the originals, and the originals weren't that bad unless you had a really loose one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really couldn't care less if they add the feature to guys/gals that didn't have it previously. I'm going to get an amazing looking Blurr and Galvatron with actual articulation out of the deal. I not beholden to a lack of gimmicks just because the original didn't, otherwise I'd be throwing out way more than half of the toys in existence. Adding new features to old characters, plus creating new ones with that feature are part of the sell of transformers. Otherwise, everyone should hate the orignal PMOP because OP's original toy didn't have the PM feature. Same thing with Blurr, Kup, Cyclonus, Scourge, and Hot Rod. And let's just throw out all of action masters, a few pretenders, a lot of G2, machine wars, transmetals, and 75% of the unicron trilogy while we're at it. Characters change and evolve over time, otherwise the story of Dinobot wouldn't make sense. I understand not wanting to buy a toy because you just don't like it, but some people trotting out the idea that the original didn't have it, so they won't buy it makes me wonder why the would buy any updates of toys or even collect toys at all.
Maybe we should throw out articulation too since most of the original toys didn't have it.![]()

End rant.
And I might get both the TT Hardhead and TR Hardhead because he was the only one I had the G1 version so that one can go on my desk at work along with my G2 Superion and Menasor.
Changing a character from a non headmaster to a headmaster is a massive change fundamentally to the character. Updating vehicle modes etc is fine. You seem to be missing the point. I'm surprised at how people like and defend characters that have no right to be altered in such an incredibly drastic way. Maybe the vitriol only comes when your name is Michael bay lol.

In the last few years it became apparent to me that I could follow in the steps of others and get a "Neo-G1" collection going. I wasn't planning on it, but once Combiner Wars hit the market it became apparent that I could do this.
So I already have a number of characters from the CHUG lines filling out the ranks, hence my lack of desire/need to buy any of the CW Autobot cars.
But along comes Titans Return and I'm hit with a problem.
Galvatron.
I have a modern Galvatron. Not many people like him, he's not a great figure I'll admit. Plus he turns into a tank. So ... not exactly G1-ish.
But then we have TR Galvatron, who is a great modern take on a classic figure except for one small detail.
His head detaches and becomes its own little bot.
That ... is not very G1-ish for the character. Especially when also in the line we're getting characters who, back in the day, had detachable transforming heads.
Now I can approach this a number of ways.
1 - Not give a SHIZZLESNIT and get the **** over it.
2 - Avoid it like an Alpha Bravo fanboy avoids the reality that Alpha Bravo is nothing special.
3 - Get him, keep him in robot mode (as my collection is anyway) but embrace the change and occasionally have fun transforming both big bot and little bot.
At this stage I'm leaning towards option 3.
Astrotrain however is a different matter as that ain't a damn train. Plus I like his CHUG version better.

I've got to agree with this. I don't really know what that thing is that he splits into, which is sad. When your name includes train...I wouldn't have had a problem if he had turned into something other than a shuttle and a train, but I really can't tell what it is, which is a disappointment.

Maybe it's a TF mating ritual.

I am terribly sorry. I hope this figure can be configured in a better base mode than this hideous monstrosity. Until then, it's either weird mating ritual, or the headless upside-down Superman pose with something strange coming out of his abdominal region.
Were you upset when 1988 made a Powermaster toy for the previously non-Powermaster character Optimus Prime, or made Classic Pretender toys for the previously non-Pretender characters Bumblebee, Jazz, Grimlock, and Starscream?Prowl4 wrote:Changing a character from a non headmaster to a headmaster is a massive change fundamentally to the character. Been wanting to jump in on this....
For starters... is there ANY conformation of whether Fort Max's legs split like Metroplex's (repair bays?)
Also all these base modes have me really wanting micro-masters to return. Kind of kicking myself for not getting all the old movie-verse... what were they... minicons.... legends???? I kinda wish they would do a re-release of some of those rebranded as micromasters.
As for to ZOMG they're head/titan masters now... meh... it's a play feature use, don't use it.
As for Astrotrain, does anyone else get the feeling there is gonna be an Omega Supreme (Energon) repaint with a yellow Ark (autobot shuttle) I'd be down for that.
Also wondering if we'll get an Obsidian from Highbrow
