There's no way the masterpiece gun will fit. This new Soundwave seems to have a 5mm circular gun handle. The masterpiece has a rectangular handle. That's really not a viable option for replacement.

That and, you know, MP Soundwave is already kind of using it, so...

Randomus wrote:I think it ultimately comes down to proportions and mass. Hear me out:

The G1-accurate cassette deck is basically all torso. The robot mode of the classic toy is fine for the time, but if a figure came out with those proportions in 2016, so many tables would get flipped that the combined force would slow the Earth's rotation.

If Soundwave is to have limbs properly sized to his torso, he either needs large speakers on the sides (this and Titanium) or the back of a vehicle (WFC/FoC).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, we either give up a proper robot or a proper alt-mode (or we get MP-level complexity and pay for it accordingly).

Maybe you're right. It also doesn't help that the new "cassettes" are larger than G1 cassettes and that this has an (unnecessary, IMO) base mode.

Well, WfC will do for SW in my collection until something better comes along. I really thought the 3rd party guys would turn one of their Blasters into SW, but it never happened.

As for the later conversation about how the fiction will handle this how about .... it won't? Brainstorm got a Headmaster toy without being a Headmaster in the comics. And we have tons of combiners (including one made from Cyclonus) that have no bearing on the comics. It's very possible we'll see a character or two as proper toyetic Headmasters with the rest of drawn to resemble them, but without the Headmaster gimmick.

You got some things mixed up here. Here's the complete list of the Titans Return line, per size class:

Titan Masters Class
Crashbash (Squeezeplay)
Loudmouth (Siren)
Nightbeat
Terri-Bull (Horri-Bull)

Legends Class
Ravage
Rewind
Autobot Stripes

Deluxe Class
Hardhead with Furos (Duros)
Skullsmasher (Skullcruncher) with Grax
Blurr with ???

Voyager Class
Galvatron with Nucleon
Sentinel Prime with Autobot Infinitus

Leader Class
Autobot Blaster with Twincast
Powermaster Optimus Prime with Autobot Apex
Soundwave with Soundblaster

Titan Class
Fortress Maximus
Trypticon (Fan-Vote)

Voyagers and Leaders have helmets that go over the Titan Master heads.

Nope, but if the mold were better, the lack of paint apps (and the lack of a proper gun) would be more forgivable. You know that saying about lipstick on a pig? Well, sometimes you CAN put enough make-up on a pig to make me bite. The mold will still be flawed, but great paint apps will ease that problem quite a bit for me.

I wonder if Takara could simply "fill in" those helmets with proper heads and do away with the Headmaster gimmick for the Voyagers and Leaders in their equivalent line?

He looks fine - not £50.00 fine - but maybe £25.00 fine. so I'll wait for a sale - but I won't be buy a figure for that much money with that amount of gaps in it again and likely no other Decepticon bases to plug it on too either.

But he's not insultingly bad - he does look like Soundwave more or less and the little bit of missing paint isn't hugely noticeable except from the side.

I do always worry for the unfortunate Parents paying a premium and not lasting a day on them though when they so obviously cut corners with the solidity of the plastic due to the gapping.

But he is better than Sentinel by rather a lot and possibly Galvatron as well. I'm not offended by the player alt mode. Lets be honest here if it wasn't for the fact these things are getting Data Pads they'd be a curiosity at best to me... where as with them I can say I will get it sometime - I just shall not be paying £50.00 for it is all.

There's no way the masterpiece gun will fit. This new Soundwave seems to have a 5mm circular gun handle. The masterpiece has a rectangular handle. That's really not a viable option for replacement.

That and, you know, MP Soundwave is already kind of using it, so...

Well of course, that too. I'm just saying even if you somehow got an extra one it would'nt work at all without shaving the handle down and even then, it probably would'nt fit that well, so it's not really a good replacement for his new gun.

Blaster & Soundwave are LEADER CLASS figures? so why were we getting the impression that Blaster was going to be a Voyager Class sized figure? hell....i even asked the class size question back then when we first got those Blaster images....i did speculate back then that Blaster may be Leader Class! but someone at the time replied by saying that it was going to be a Voyager sized figure!

You got some things mixed up here. Here's the complete list of the Titans Return line, per size class:

Titan Masters Class
Crashbash (Squeezeplay)
Loudmouth (Siren)
Nightbeat
Terri-Bull (Horri-Bull)

Legends Class
Ravage
Rewind
Autobot Stripes

Deluxe Class
Hardhead with Furos (Duros)
Skullsmasher (Skullcruncher) with Grax
Blurr with ???

Voyager Class
Galvatron with Nucleon
Sentinel Prime with Autobot Infinitus

Leader Class
Autobot Blaster with Twincast
Powermaster Optimus Prime with Autobot Apex
Soundwave with Soundblaster

Titan Class
Fortress Maximus
Trypticon (Fan-Vote)

Voyagers and Leaders have helmets that go over the Titan Master heads.

ok thanks ;)^ but it was a while back......& i'm sure i remember someone replying at the time.....that they thought Blaster is gonna be Voyager Class. but glad he's Leader Class! coz of the battlestation mode

I guess what I'm trying to say is, we either give up a proper robot or a proper alt-mode (or we get MP-level complexity and pay for it accordingly).

Or we could just get one similar to his G1 self in terms of transformation but with an increase in articulation. They seem to be doing that with Hardhead, Skullsmasher (I forget what they are calling him now) and Blaster. Actually, this toy would have been pretty good if his legs were smaller. Then the sides could be smaller than the chest area and be more different than Blaster in alt mode, being a giant tape deck rather than a giant ghetto blaster (wait, do you need circular speakers to be a ghetto blaster?). Though he wouldnt be as good a base (then again, they could simply have either telescoping or layered panels that would fold out to make some ramps).

To be honest, I hope they never address it. Having to work with the toys really dates the comics and makes the storytelling suffer. I am reading IDW Robots in Disguise and I am at Dark Cybertron now and I cannot stand all the body changing for the sole purpose of wanting to throw in the toys for no reason. It just makes me go "oh yeah, they did do another bumblebee that year" and "well I guess this is how they cram in the tankor toy". It doesnt add anything and just makes me wish I could skip this giant toy commercial and just read the rest of MTMTE. I mean those in the know of the comics know the toys are out there and if they dont, its not like the comics tell you "be sure to buy this toy of starscream's new body!" anyways. Someone who doesnt know the toys exist would just be wondering why they suddenly changed bodies again or (as is being asked right now) why both Galvatron and Chromedome suddenly removed their heads for a nebulon standoff.

The comics, like the films, have become their own storytelling mediums now, not relying on toy sales to exist, so it would be fun if they just do their own thing.

I have experienced this too and its true. I very much dislike that FOC Grimlock mold, but man were these two decos below to die for:

I am not crazy about the Windblade mold either, but Slipstream was just too gorgeous to pass up and it made me appreciate the mold:

And while Seibertron's galleries are awesome, no pic can convey how glorious that deco looks in person with some light reflecting off it.

The comic is supposed to be one aspect of selling the figure. Not that I need them to buy TF figs I want. Just want to see how the writers will contort and suffer through the process of trying to plot a storyline to support the figures at hand or incoming figures  I enjoy watching people suffer

Didn't Jetfire get a PR exposure in the comics using the Leader sculpt (though with SW, he had like those two wheels on his shins)?

TT IS sure to release a homage weapon for SW. If they did that for Superion (retool Sling),Defensor (Groove), Menasor (Wildrider) and Bruticus (Blastoff/Vortex). It has precedent already (maybe by 2017)
