Hmm. Triple-changing Brunt as a headmaster for Trypticon? It'd be better than just having the head hanging off the back in base and spaceship modes. Heck, make him able to attach to the nose of the spaceship as a nosecone/turret; the current nose is too blunt.
And if there's any chance of retooling the dino head mode, there's another giant-size character who could use a head which turned into an autonomous tank in some series and a headmaster in another. A character who hasn't gotten a non-Kre-O toy in seven years...

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:On subject of retools, I'm a bit surprised in that the standalone Titan Masters in the box sets, Thunderwing and Rodimus Prime, are retools of Fangry and Ptero respectively. In other words, the Legends Class figures are the only all-new molds!
You mean the clone class?
And I am more surprised that they are new molds. This is the first time we actually have fully original molds in generations/platinum boxsets ever. I was sure they would be retools of some kind.
Also Jelze, I got something interesting or all of us to do. Remember that loooog list of rumoured toys which had stuff like Blood and Carnivac? We know there isnt enough TR left to have them all in waves. BUT what if those toys will be in the next two box sets. I mean that gives us a lot of juice. 2 more deluxes, 2 more leaders, 2 more voyagers and 2 more heads.
Wolfman Jake wrote:william-james88 wrote:So you end up with the same cockpit section twice in a row, it looks dumb as all hell.
Octane fares better especially since that plane now has a uniform white scheme which works, and he also has some retooling. though I find it odd, isnt he supposed to have purple squares (or such) on his chest?
I wouldn't really call that "fake kibble" on Blitzwing's chest at all. If anything, you might say it's a repeat of the sloping back of the cockpit in the spine of the fuselage, but it's certainly not a double/repeated cockpit.
I guess I wasnt clear, dear Wolfman, I dont know planes, so I just called it "cockpit section" instead of the sloping back of the cockpit. I didnt mean thw whole cockpit. I still find it a bit silly looking though since its that same part fo the plane. Though I do very much welcome your interpretation fo how it can work to add plane detail.
Also, I am warming up to Blitzwing. I didnt notice the arms were tan instead of grey (that works better) and I do like how the plane is fully puple. One thing it does that is odd as hell though is how the tank turret is purple and not tan. It would have added a lot to just be the same coloured plastic. I know they wanted to give him a purple gun, but I think its one hell of a sacrifice. The tank needs as much tan as it can.
As for Octane, the original G1 toy and carton character model don't have those pectoral square details. That's something from the Universe 2008 deluxe class toy, which served as the inspiration for his rendition in the IDW comics.
Wow, goes to show how much recent version fo characters influence me. I am still not used to this full one G1 homage Hasbro is doing. For anyone who ever just wanted G1 again they must be in 7th heaven. I personally dont mind as long as I get fun designs and intricate smart engineering.
MagicDeath wrote:Yeah, there's no way Hasbro did the whole 'slightly-larger triple changing headmaster' thing without that in mind.
Like seriously, they know we are thinking it. They have a whole class dedicated to voyager triple changing headmasters, and are waiting to reveal these till the end of the line. Hasbro is a bigger tease than that girl I dated back in highschool.
SillySpringer wrote:I'm starting to wonder if Power of the Primes will actually be a mix of Combiner Wars and Titans Return with some other gimmicks thrown in for certain characters. More like a traditional generations line. I can't really think of a specific gimmick that they'd use for the whole line, and they did say that Combiner Wars will come back.
They said previous concepts could come back, but there is no confirmation. And the next gimick was leaked, its Toys to Life, where you have an app that makes you scan your toys to have them appear on a screen, or something. Like a refined RID app. Hasbro is really pushing for digital integration, they think its the only way to kee doing toys and they may be right:
Hasbro has a whole new department made for digital integration of and the generations line is next.
chuckdawg1999 wrote:2) With that said Octane looks fantastic. I fainted when I saw they gave it a new gun.
I didnt realize the new gun, nice! I fainted when I saw the retooled plane front. Which now has me scratching my head as to why they felt to make so may changes to the plane mode of the Optimus mold when its the mode that least represents Optimus. They should have worked on making the truck more distinctive.
Insurgent wrote:Overlord looks awesome and will be mine. Tidal wave looks ok. Better in boat mode. Interesting they went with toon purple and not toy green. Clones look good. What size are they? Look a bit simple. Delta magnus prime whatever is just ginrai? Most interesting. Will this mean hasbro godbomber can combine? Or will we have to go takara?
I am really curious of what will happen next with godbomber. He was said to be coming out evetually so I think they will release him as the leader of the next box set.
As for Overlord, I think I am going nuts. Because I much preffer Black Shadow in robot mode. I feel the same weird way for Overlord as I did for 6shot. He is just so blocky and for some reason I dont see the Overlord I know and love in that toy. The big helmet is off to me ad doesnt strike me as overlord, same goes for the clashing colours and overly boxy nature. He really is just the G1 toy with articulation. And now I see how the reimagined Overlord in IDW was quite different from his G1 toy deco. He just doesnt seem as imposing (ad not as imposting as Black shadow).
I will get him, but I am not as excited about him as I thought I would be.
Terrsolpix wrote:Welp. Guess I'll be getting two, 100 dollar boxsets just to get two primes, two die cast heads, and some little desk level bots. seriously though, what are the clones? they seem like odd additions that won't even get wider releases
Hasbro confirmed that the clones will never be released solo from them.

With this in mind, I love how the characters in the "something" sets don't really line up with the theme. The speed set makes some sort of sense.. mostly: Rodimus, Quickswitch, Fastlane, Gr Prime... with flames cause he's fast, and then Nautica AKA intelligence.
Strength, Thunderwing and Tidal wave seem to be the only 2 that really fit there.
Maybe should have held off on Nautica for intelligence?

The themes are rather arbitrary it seems, especially when each set has its own name that is unrelated to the actual theme of speed or strength.

At least for speed they included the whole "Velocitron" thing, which ya know, is a planet based on speed

I'm guessing the next two sets will have similar names to the first ones, so like "Battle on Caminus" or "War on Eukaris" and the assumed intelligence and Firepower themes won't come into it. A Eukaris set would probably be the best place to put Wingspan, you could throw in a repaint of Mindwipe (Bomb Burst perhaps?) or Wolfwire (Carnivac?), possibly even a Hasbro release of Takara LG-41 Lio Convoy.

Will, you mentioned the digital integration. Much as I'd like to see that happen across the board for all transformers toys, do you really think that might be the Power of the Primes gimmick? It seems wierd that the flagship Generations line would follow the suit of the tv-tie-in RID line.
I was just thinking myself what the new gimmick could be, and I wondered; what if it's accessories? Eh? What always seems to be the difining artifact of primehood? The matrix. Now obviosuly not everyone can have a matrix. But what if everyone had a stupid Mech Tech weapon, or perhaps they go Cyber Planet Keys, which would unlock the so-called "power".
Heck, there's even precedent. Doesnt each of the original Primes have their own artifact? The Magnus Hammer, The Forge of Solus, etc?

In the alligned continuity yeah, they all have their own legendary accessories. Although I dont konw how much of g1 is picking up on alligned and where the toyline is now. If they do 13 primes in the generations line then does that mean that the generations line is not a reinterpretation of G1 but of the alligned ocntinuity instead? My head hurts.
Anyways... about me thinking if the ditigal integration is the line wide gimmick, yes I do 100%. This is of course pure speculation but its what I believe. People have been reading between the lines as to what hasbro was expressing during the last week-end when people asked reps random questions and the general consensus is that the gimick is line wide but wont have the same customisation angle (of CW or TR). So that lines up with the other rumours of it being more digital based. Its just a lot of rmours lining up together.
Anyways, Nemesis Maximo, I have a question for you. I remember what you said about TR Sixshot. Do you feel similarly to TR Overlord?

I think I have most still cataloged in my personal lists, but a few slipped through like Bomb-Burst/Blood. The Pretenders will hard to match up given their modes are... ambiguous.

I'll be honest, I really hope they don't do something digital across all figures. At this point, I have no clue what that would be, but no matter what is sounds like it would add cost, and would likely mean cutting costs somewhere else. Ultimately I like to play/display my figures without any digital help aside from taking a few photos. I really don't need or want an app or a computer program to help me play/display. I'll go sit in the grumpy old man corner now...

you know toyfair is the first time ive copped that theres a real "set" capability going on with a TF line.
think about it. when all these lads come out for the first time in an age you'll be able to pick a "sub line" for want of a better term and collect all the characters associated with it.
want a G1 animated movie cast line up (bot or con) ?
ya got em.
a classic line up of triple changers?
ya got em.
a comics "phase sixers" team?
ya got em.
your own team of "wreckers" , a cast of IDW characters, hell an army of sharkticons, and WHO ever thought we'd see the "clones" again?
this is the most diverse line ive seen in years. so much is coming out of left field. its gone from a situation where i was thinking of just getting one or two, to seeing the opportunity of having "teams" .
ok ya might need to go to the secondary market to fill out the ranks completely but it really is amazing to think if you want a "classic" line up of wreckers you can do it without bankrupting yourself !
about the only thing annoying me now is theres STILL no dinobots so far. a team long over due the full treatment.
still i really gotta hand it to Hasbro. this is the most product ive bought in years, hell theyve even got me looking forward to that movie megs (leader class)
heres hoping they keep up what were getting now.
think about it. when all these lads come out for the first time in an age you'll be able to pick a "sub line" for want of a better term and collect all the characters associated with it.

Well, I've spent some time processing, so I'll go on and share my thoughts as well.
I hate box sets. Nothing but cheap money grabs. That said, I'll be picking up both of these.
I have an addiction to collecting versions of Prime, and the two offered in these sets are must haves. I've wanted the Takara Gini for some time now, and I imagine this box sets price will be about the same as import costs, with the bonus of additional figures I can sell on eBay. The G2 version of Laser Prime is just too awesome not to have.
Nautica is a figure I was so looking forward too. Seeing what Hasbro has to offer us, well, its a disgrace and insult to the character. If they weren't going to put effort into it, they should have let it alone. She comes in a box set I want, so I'll obviously be getting her, but I don't know if I'll keep her. Such a waste.
Overlord is quite awesome. He looks so good, this will be the first leader class figure in a long time that I don't hesitate to pay full price for.
Blitzwing and Octane are just pretty. I'll be excited to add them to the collection.
Tripticon is not worth the money, just like For Max.
Metalhawk, well, I always thought he was an IDW created character. For me, this figure does nothing.
That's all I really have to say at the moment. A lot of the deluxe figures will depend on my mood when I see them in stores.

That Metalhawk fig doesn't do the character justice!

Eehh... I think it depends. In a lot of cases, yeah, but I think Combiner Wars was the best example. In those cases with those boxsets, most people wanting one of the characters included would be wanting the rest anyway - the combiner itself is the big draw, so putting everyone in a boxset was fine and let us get the G2 dudes.
That said, TR is the absolute worst way to do boxsets. A bunch of characters that have nothing to do with one another - I don't think any of the boxsets had characters that all appeared in the same continuity - where chances are you only really want one or two characters involved but you're forced to pick up the whole boxset. They could have at least done something like a Lost Light boxset or a Masterforce boxset or Armada boxset or something where these characters would at least be ones that appeared in the same fiction together, but... Nautica, Fastlane and Quickswitch. No relation whatsoever.
