I was dismayed when I saw fxfranz's Red Alert review but so far I love him. His panel did pop off at first but to be honest I can look past that. It's disappointing, yes, but it's not like a joint or something and I could more firmly attach it if I wanted. He balances well, he looks awesome and is full of G1 charm. I love him!

My Darkmount has that loose joint but I think there's more to it than that. The backpack seems to give him a small front-to-back area where he balances well and for being on ball joints his feet only move side to side a small amount, limiting the width of his stance. He's okay design-wise but I like to play with and pose my figures and I just don't feel like (for me) that he's got the right stuff.

I opened Soundwave! He's seriously awesome. The only thing is he's got a bad joint that pops out, too! Now I understand why people malign Hasbro's quality control. Right now I own 7 Transformers and 3 of them have bad joints that pop off or make the figure slide into a split. I may have to swap out Soundwave just so that I can have a perfect one.

Yeah, WFC Optimus would have been much easier to deal with if he had instructions for each transformation. I still like him though

Gee, I opened mine yesterday, and I have had exactly zero problems with him. But regardless, I think he's a great figure, and I love the transformation. I've had no issues with bits falling off, nor have I had issues with his extending gun staying extended. Works just fine. My only quibble, and it's a small one at that, is that I feel like he needs a bit more mass. He seems just a bit too small to me. Like WFC Prime, I think he'd have been better off as a Voyager-sized figure (though his Transformation is perfect for a Deluxe).

Given that Soundwave also has both Transformations, is this a change they're making with the instructions? Is it for WFC figures only, or Generations, or across the board...? Not that it's bad ("reverse directions" doesn't always work so well), but I'm curious to see if it's a permanent change or a line change or something.

Well, in fairness, my biggest complaint was when a figure would come in, say, robot mode, but the instructions would only show alt to robot, meaning to I had to reverse the directions out of the package.

However, I won't complain about bi-directional instructions. There are some nuances with some figures that are hard to reverse properly in your head.

I'm going off memory, so I could be entirely wrong on this. In fact, now that you question it, I suspect I am wrong and am imagining it. I know I've looked at a robot-mode figure in the store and thought, "Wow, I hope the instructions aren't alt-to-robot." I'll bet that's where I'm thinking this has happened.

EDIT: Did a quick check of my instruction collection, and I found a few. Reissues Blaster, Soundwave, Perceptor, and Insecticons all came in robot mode, but instructions were alt-to-robot. For the Classics/Universe combiners, the central figure in each (Steamhammer, Onslaught, and Silverbolt) were all in robot mode with alt-to-robot instructions. So it's not common, but it has happened recently.

Sadly enough that has happened. More specifically, it happens with toys packaged in vehicle/beast mode, and the repaint is packaged in robot mode, as Hasbro only reprints instructions in their original form. The most notorious example is Universe 2003 Nemesis Prime, a repaint of BW Neo Big Convoy.

WFC Megatron is pretty awesome. My only complaint is the light shade of grey, but I'm not willing to drop twice the price for Takara's.

PCC Huffer's not bad. Kinda simplistic, but I like him. And Caliburst looks cool. Glad I was able to get them on sale.

Last Stand of the Wreckers was great. It took awhile to pick up for me but in the end I loved it. I wouldn't exactly call it the "Watchmen of Transformers", but it was a solid read. I was just as involved with the Bumblebee TPB, personally. One thing, Roche needs to work on his human characters. You-know-who had some really weird looking moments.
