Took a dip at Walmart and came back with something cute. RID CF Crash Combiner Skysledge and Stormhammer:
Their vehicle modes are pretty solid. Sure, being spaceships make it easier, but the ships themselves are very clean and consistant looking. I love them.
The bots are good enough for what they are. sure, they can only flap their arms like morons, the legs are just a block, and the transformation is barely above those RPM matchbox cars from the movie lines. Still, the individual robot modes ARE there. And contrary to the Optimus/Strongarm and Bumblebee/Sideswipe sets, they are not restricted to a predetermined look. So, the bots look just fine and not like a sad parody. Nice! My only true complain is Stormhammer's arms should have been white because they become invisible due to the wings at the back.
As for the combined Skyhammer bot, he look FANTASTIC and BAD-ASS! I The spring-loaded gimmick work well and there's still some more tiny steps of transformation to do. The arms barely move but it work. And even if the legs (that are not spring-loaded) can only spread a bit, it's just enough to make a stable and powerful looking standing pose. Also, contrary to, once again, Optimus/Strongy & Bee/Sidy sets, the colors complement each others perfectly.
I paid full 20$CAN+tx price without regrets. The deluxe price points is fair for what we get. Curious about Crash Combiners? The Skyhammer set is the place to start. Yeah, you can tell that that silly toy impressed me. It's not often that a find inspire me to talk about it in details and to post several pictures of it.
Oh, a silly note. I had to look at the instruction manual to transform them for the first time. Just to be sure I was not going to break anything like a moron. We can never be too careful with anything that rely on auto-morph.
