Ironic, no? Especially since Spidey's got his black duds for this one.

That kinda happens in the G2 comics, although it were more regular symbiotes.

As I recall, Spidey's appearance in the comic was set in the middle of his time with the symbiote costume, however after he got rid of it, the Black Cat made him a new one. He ditched it after Venom showed up, and who could blame him!

Another interesting tidbit I read in a post once:

The reason why Spider-Man is wearing his black costume in the first place in that issue is because Hasbro demanded he do so. During the release of the comic, a rival toy company(probably Mattel, as I think this was around Secret Wars time) was making Spider-Man action figures, but I guess the black suit either was no longer in production, or hadn't been made as of yet, and Hasbro didn't want to sponsor another company's action figure in their action figure marketing comic.

But I think Transformes may have a higher ranking in the long run, cause Spider-Man has already had two movies recently and everyone knows who he is, and once the ads for Transformers start running full force, everyone will want to look up who the characters are, and there is just a whole bunch of stuff to look into.

Spider-man apperently was with Venom alot longer in the comics than the cartoon. BTW It's not a suit or a costume, it's an alien life form. :P

The cartoon series he had Venom for all of one episode then he rejected it when he realized it started to turn him evil.

All true. Except that Spidey wasn't "with Venom" in that period in the comics, he just wore the symbiotic costume. Venom isn't the symbiote, it's specifically the combined form of Eddie Brock and the symbiote.

I seriously doubt that. Most of the movie going public aren't the types who tend to go on Google or Wikipedia to look up characters they just saw in a movie.

Hell, even Spider-Man and Star Wars don't get that kind of treatment. I'd bet you anything that most people who saw Spidey 3 have no idea who Venom or Sandman are. Hell, they probably don't even know about the Black Suit.

So, no. Spider-Man has been a household name for kids and adults for around fourty years. Transformers has been labeled as a kids shows for twenty.

Someday TF might have that pedigree, that someday being another 10 or twenty years away, when we original fans are geezers and the ones who come to TF's through the Bay movie (all 100 or so of them?) will be our age.
