I don't think I'd buy a replacement Metroplex. I'm fine with the one I have, even if Trypticon is out of scale. I have little enough room for Scorpinok without doubling up on my giant characters.

Speaking of, I do like what I see so far. The fortress mode is kind of disappointing, but the scorpion mode is great. And I'm glad the robot mode is about the right size compared to Fort Max. I'm one of those fools who buys 3rd party accessories to go with my Titans so I'd be down for guns and whatever else to beef him up.

Glad to see others share my sentiment that T30 Titan class Metroplex never should have been as shallowly tall as it was in the first place.

"Tallest Transformers Toy Ever" could have just as easily been "Tallest Modern Transformers Toy" or "Tallest Transformers Generations Toy Ever", especially since the claim was rendered moot when it was taken back by its original holder, Fortress Maximus, a mere three years later.

Well, at least they'll probably never get to use that again thanks to Unicron. Unless they go for like a 3 foot tall figure, at which point I'd start wondering how high the execs at HasTak are

I am honestly perfectly cool with how T30 Metroplex came out.

If they were to revisit him, I finally want a proper FOC design, THAT was a Metroplex

Thing is, with Warden still in charge, it'd be hewn closer to G1 appearance. It'll be interesting to see next year's titan as Metroplex could be a good fit for it if the theme of the line is post movie (pure conjecture).

No need to lecture, I was there. Were you? Without the electronics, If Hasbro had scaled up TR Trypticon slightly to be almost the same size as T30 Metroplex (as ER Scorponok is to Fort Max), they could have easily done it for around the $200 price point in 2017
Except that there ISN'T a $200 price point and under normal circumstances they're not going to invent a new price point to only use it for one figure.

o.supreme wrote:
ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:TR Trypticon meanwhile is the same size as T30 Metroplex. He's just shorter because being a T. Rex in robot mode means that size is distributed differently; a lot of it's in the big fat T. rex tail, for instance, plus he has a consistently thick torso (especially when you factor in his back)...

So he's short and fat, we all know that...Your Point?
He's not fat, he's just not an hourglass-abs like Metroplex (and has Godzilla-esque backplates). My point is that lower height does not automaticallysmaller. He's. The. Same. Bloody. Size. And because of that, is quite capable of going toe to toe with Metroplex even if they're not eye-to-eye. He can lift himself up to be closer in height and to chomp and claw, he can swipe with that big tail of his, he can lift up on it to kangaroo-kick...
It's not like the size difference between the original Fort Max and Scorponok toys where Scorpy was a Supreme-size figure and Fort Max was Titan-size and thus could just sit on him easily. Trypticon is big enough to be a match (but also not so much bigger that. say, Metroplex can't replicate the cartoon and throw him).

o.supreme wrote:
ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Scorponok's robot mode height is also affected by his tail (hence why he's not quite as tall as Metroplex and Fort Max), but not as much since it's not as huge as Trypticon's (Tryps' tail is the same length as his entire torso). On the upside, his height is boosted by the fact that his robot mode is humanoid rather than bestial.

And my point is still valid. I'm not saying Trypticon is an awful toy, never did, it just didn't meet my expectations, and they are still valid today, as they were 3 years ago when it came out.
Except you seemed to have been expecting a Trypticon in the same size class as Metroplex to be almost twice as big, so...

ZeroWolf wrote:Here's a question though, say that Takara decides to do a Selects Black Zarak, how would they manage the head? In the story for Masterpiece he wasn't a headmaster anymore, having wired himself into the core of the transector. I mean easiest option would just give the head units a new coat of paint (after the retool of course) but would they even need to include the Titan master?
I think you mean Masterforce, not Masterpiece
As Kanrabat pointed out, the toy was still a Headmaster, so... And Takara likes the gimmick.
I think what they'd do is re-shell the Deluxe figure to resemble the new helmet.

-- Need two more gray canons. Maybe replace all of them to make the canons posable.
-- The big gun that can split into city towers.
-- Radars and bits for the city mode. Those could combine into a bot like the deluxe "armor" guys.
-- Two proper silver "armor plates" to complete the bot mode for his legs.

This stuff, plus I wish there was an optional clear face shield for some real G1 figure/Mega Zarak cartoon authenticity.

Also wish he could use his tail stinger in bot mode like the original, but not even an upgrade kit can fix that it seems.

I really do love that all the hollow spots actually serve a purpose in at least one mode and gets covered when not in use (aside from the ankles in bot mode). Nice having somewhere to put the shield in scorpion mode.

Emerje

The big visor on the G1 toy may have been unsightly but it kind of needs it for cartoon accuracy in scorpion mode, so hopefully some kind of clip on attachment. For me this is one of the most disappointing titans but already ordered it... And if they release it as black zarak I'll be buying it again :)
Someone already pointed out that the visor was present as his collar (meaning it's opaque).

I don't think you could really make a bot out of the radars, sling elevator, waldoes, and turret. If you did it would look very '50s XD

I think instead of new armor plates for his legs, they could do a new back end for the shield.

Eh, he kinda did need to be the size he is. Not only does it make him a better towering giant, it also makes him work better as a walking dollhouse for figures larger than Legion-class.

Lookit what he can do thanks to his size:

Typically they go for around $50  ;)
Not Metroplex, at least not last I looked. Metroplex tends to be 4 to 10 times that. :(

Myself, I am really excited for Scorponok still. I like how he is even with all the missing accessories compared to the original. Makes me hope I can win the lottery or am able to sell art or something...

The thing is, when you use the word "size", you're talking about mass. When I used the word "tall", I was talking about height.

He could have kept the same mass (and thus kept the same functionality as a playset, or "walking dollhouse" as you put it) if he had been couple a couple of inches shorter in height. In fact, keeping the same mass at that slightly shorter height could have even bulked him up a bit more (making him better resemble his original chunkier design) so that he wouldn't be as lanky and anorexic as he turned out to be for the sheer shallow sake of more height.

T30 Metroplex's legs were just too long relative to the torso. It looks like his top half and bottom half were made for different scales.

Yeah metroplex’s aesthetic is a bit let down by his proportions, however I think he still works. Personally, the biggest issues I have with him Is that the joints don’t hold up... he ends up a floppy messy when you try and transform him. Also, you know they’d do a better job now, things like adding ankle tilts, and maybe actually hiding the hands in alt modes, and making the chest ramp actually touch the ground better in city mode...

but I’d rather they continue releasing cool updates to other characters than an update to metroplex
My personal prime collection so far in descending order of how great i reckon the toy is -

He just needs some mechanical arms attached to the legs in base mode like a repair bay, reminiscent of the G1 and the base mode would be dramatically improved.

I despise exclusives, as they instantly become scalper fodder, and the chances of finding them in the wild waxes extremely low. I hope Hasbro puts these on Pulse, too, as that'll increase the chances of getting a copy.

I never managed to get the Autobot clones, so I'm hoping to get lucky with these guys. I think these look better than their Autobot counterparts, anyway, although I'd like to have the full set. Hopefully the Autobot clones will get a rerelease too.

What about it is disappointing to you? Since the final figure ended up with the blue hands and codpiece, the only thing it's missing IMO is the middle rectangle on the pelvis to be yellow like the other bits on the pelvis, the little yellow arrows on the forearms, and for there to be silver around the eyes. Aside from that, it's basically perfect IMO.

I'm holding off for a better paint job, it's possible that a netflix redeco will show up if not selects. The mettalic blue paint and the chest windows in robot mode put me off despite me wanting him to go with my movie cast figures. Failing tharI can wait to see what optimus pop up in the next part.

Just some nitpicks piled together, like the blue face and missing yellow, maybe I can fix some of it myself -- but mostly it's all the grey on the legs. (I'm actually glad that he doesn't have yellow markings on his forearms.) The final version does look a lot better than the stock photos... :-?

Sorry, I should have said height too. I think the lower legs at the least still needed to be as tall as they are so that his decks would be decently sized. The thighs, they could probably have got away with shortening a bit.

I'll have to put up my pics of Omega Supreme again, but Ironworks in his "tower" mode works really well on the inner ramps by the rocket tower. I could also see stacking two on top of each other for more of a traditional launch ambilocal for the rocket. I do wish Sound Barrier worked better as a standard ramp. So far the best place for him, is helping the outer extension on Omega's foot work for Ironwork's standard base mode to connect (though still not 100% happy with it for some reason).

I don't know if it's just because Ironwork lends himself so well to looking like a drone/Omega sentinel.... but every time I see one it stores I have to fight the temptation to bring another home... I really *don't* need more than two... but three is *mighty* tempting. I basically have to remind myself "more bases are coming" and it's likely I'd troop build any others (at least I don't see it with Airwave- unless there's a way to fan mode a Tidalwave out of three of them).

Having never handled the Original... have watching this review, and the new one... they did a fairly faithful recreation in my opinion. Though... Seeing him drag that g1 Tyrpticon in... made me realize we really were missing quite a few bobbles from him. Considering that Hasbro has the little repair arms from Metroplex, i'm shocked they didn't reuse them in Scorponok (or Fort Max for that matter...)

Did anyone spy other A.I.R. Lock connectors on the new Scorp, besides the ends of the ramps? I thought there was something on his shins, but that appears to just be a panel attachment with a pin driven through it (but would otherwise use the same connectors if you removed the panel and pin). I do think the design team could have snuck in those thigh missiles, shame the skipped that. So far the biggest "complaint" I can think of is having to buy Fastrack separately, but we've technically had to do that with brunt and six gun... so why not with Scorp too.

I'm excited for him... but after having just set up Devy (again, having dragged him out of storage) i'm *really* not looking forward to a *full sized* titan.

Eh, he kinda did need to be the size he is. Not only does it make him a better towering giant, it also makes him work better as a walking dollhouse for figures larger than Legion-class.

Sorry, I should have said height too. I think the lower legs at the least still needed to be as tall as they are so that his decks would be decently sized. The thighs, they could probably have got away with shortening a bit.

Returning to Earthrise... Has anyone made their own train cars for Astrotrain?

is there even a connection system on the back of the tinder/tender? (I honestly never looked... will have to when I get home).
