Skywarp may just make me go back and pick up Screamer and TC. I dont wanna, but he looks okay and I luke his minions. Fair price or not though, thats a decent chunk of chsnge.
I really like Slamdance, and I think this is a really creatice use of the mold. I dont like the random red panels on. G G2 Sideswipe but its a nice looking car. If I had to choose, I would pick that set over Skywarp.

It's not, thats just something fans tell themselves. But if you look at the generations line's more recent releases, the seekers were mostly mainline, ex: Generations Deluxe mold, Generations legend mold, generations leader mold. All 3 seekers for all those classes available at major retailers.
I know I'm splitting a hair here, but as far as the Deluxe Classics Seekers, Skywarp was an exclusive to Target. Yes, a major retailer, but he was in the Target 2-pack along with the Ultra Magnus repaint of the Prime mold. Now I'm not sure if he was rereleased later in Generations, because I can't remember, because I found that 2-pack at retail, and never needed to look back.
But you are correct. It is something we tell ourselves. Especially for me when 2 of my 5 most favorite TF characters are Skywarp and Bluestreak. Two characters who more often than not get relegated to "always a bridesmaid, never a bride". If they are recognized at all.
For the longest time though, TC was too. I think what really drove the whole Skywarp is an exclusove point was everyone remembers seeing him as a Walmart Exlcusive for the G1 style Movie Seeker mold and Masterpiece. Althought technically every Masterpiece is an exclusive and most of the G1 style movie seekers were too.
