Everyone knows water expands when it is frozen... so is all the surface ice in the arctic really going to make a difference when it melts?

I wish I could say, but I'm sure there must be a lot of it.

Ah, the debate of global warming

I enjoyed reading all of your comments, and am glad to hear you're all as sceptical as I am. However, I don't want to be drawn into the debate due to the fact I have to go through it almost everyday at uni. Just one thing though, it makes me wonder how the green movement got so strong in this country as almost everyone I know is really sceptical, and now I can add you guys to the list ;)^

Floating icecaps will make no difference to sea level, but landlocked water on Antartica in in glasiers will make a differece. People need to learn some things before freaking out because of tv. :mrgreen:

I suppose it could be said that as the ice breaks away, the glaciers could fall through into the water.
But as Tek said, water expands when frozen. Couple that with the fact that approximately 90% of an ice platform/berg is underwater, and I really don't see what the problem is.

As I see it, these are the problems:

1. Cooling of the trans-atlantic current.
2. Build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
3. Deforestation.

Wow, this is like the most intellectual conversation I've seen in this thread (even moreso than Hc's jaffa cakes!).

i remember watching a programme about the ice caps, as yes, it says that land based ice will cause a problem, but the earth's temperature would have to rise something like 10 degree's celsius.

Anyways, from where i can see, the earth goes through cycles and does these things to itself (ice age anyone?)

Of course! They're a great bunch too. The one guy is trying to get hold of those Classics Um upgrade sets in, so he'll be keeping us up-to-date on that hot topic. Knook posts over there too; as well as Sonray (sonray says we should all go and join him).

I wonder if we'll see Allspark toys at regular retail...
