Friend's experience with a bad online store

Postby Randomus_Prime » Fri Jan 04, 2008 4:01 pm

[Not all online stores are bad, in fact I shop online quite a bit, but once you try a new place, you'd better do your homework.]

Ok, here's what my friend had to endure with Toys N Joys. His girlfriend decided to surprise him and buy him a Masterpiece Prime with Trailer for his birthday. (Seriously, what a great girlfriend to buy her man a Masterpiece Prime... with Trailer!)

Things turned for the worse as he opened the box. I had ordered my Binaltech Wheeljack and told him I ordered it from Toys N Joys. That's when I heard this tale. Here are the sequence of events that unfolded with him:

"INITIAL ISSUE
* The outside of the box itself is worn down; the corners of the box have smashed indentations with some tears.
* There are also punctured tears that are actual little holes throughout the bottom of the box.
* The openings of each side of the box were sloppily re-taped TWICE on each side.
* The items themselves have a consistency of dust, scuffs, scratches & metal chipping through out the robot and his trailer attachment.
* The robot's P31 weapon is missing his detachable arm rest attachment.
*The inner insert for the trailer is scuffed up and bent with a couple of twist ties
holding in the robot itself are undone.

Per my girlfriend’s conversation with Toys n Joys worker Art Molina, he apologized and ADMITTED that it was probably a display item. This was never indicated in the description on their website or invoice.

There were several calls and emails done to settle this issue spanning from Aug.29 to Oct.25.

Credit memo sent by Art Molina (2nd manager of Toysnjoys):
9/24/07- this credit memo was apparently inaccurate and bogus. Shortly after Alex Le (main manager) took over and claimed to have no knowledge of this transaction.

BIGGEST ISSUE
I made a return transaction with their store on- 8/29/07.
It is documented in their store return policy clearly stating "When we receive the return parcel, we will credit your account or send a refund check for the charges paid to return the item".

We received an email from Alex on 9/27/07 stating that our refund had been applied back to our credit card in the amount of $399.15.

About 2 weeks later we actually received the refund for only $367.95 which is only the amount for the item. They still owed us $31.20 for returning the item to their store.
I made 2 attempts to address this issue threw email. I made my last attempt giving Alex several options to contact me, I never heard from him again."

(Below now are the pics of the product of this disgrace of a toy store tries to sell the public. For a price tag of $400, it better be new or the last one on Earth!)

So now, $30 in the hole and NO Masterpiece Prime to show for it, Toys N Joys can rot. What a way to make a nice gesture from a nice girlfriend turn into a big financial mess. I hope no one else has to experience this scam of a store like my friend, his girl, and myself endured. They should be shut down.

I ordered some Japanese video games from them back when I was afraid of ordering from overseas and it turned into a total nightmare. I literally called them fifteen times a day sometimes to ask where my order was because it was the only way I think they ever would have shipped it.

I have a small collection of bookmarks involving them, but this one pretty much says it all:

It's unfortunate about the condition of the item.
You're never going to see that money for the shipping though.
I don't know of any place that will reimburse you for shipping
though and most online sites will state this somewhere.
Heck most people selling on ebay don't refund shipping cost,
I don't, though I've never had a problem with anything I've ever sold on ebay, knock on wood.
Seems like he got the Toys, just not the Joys.

sheesh, it's too bad about your experience and all, but please do stick to the other thread and avoid making another thread altogether on the same topic, especially if you made exactly the same post w/ pics on the first thread.

A horror show from beginning to end. It's a crime that they're even still allowed to be in operation.

Pieces of trash.

I placed an order of 3 Binaltechs with them jut this past November, all three items displayed "available" status and allowed customers to click to purchase, which I did. Automated order confirmation email arrived immediately and I was happy about it. After 1.5 months & several emails back and forth, they still don't have stock and they have not been active and forthcoming with communications (they never actively emailed me for order status, I had to email them many times to demand for a response), so I got fed up with them and cancelled my order. Now I feel very glad that I decided not to buy from them.

I will NOT RECOMMEND buying from Toys N Joys. 'Nuf Said!

Cheers,

No one should go through that type of experience with anything. I have never ordered from them and I am glad that I have not. From reading all of the negative comments that I have read about them, it is confirmed that I will not even order for them let alone look at their site.

I'm one of those people who collects only what I like. I don't have to collect everything, so when something comes along like a Binaltech Wheeljack, it's really special and exciting. In my friend's case, his girlfriend knew he missed out on the first run of Masterpiece Prime's with Trailer and wanted to give him a super duper nice surprise, despite the fact that it was overpriced.

So for a company to falsely advertise and get people's expectations up only to smash them, well, it just makes people feel really crappy. Not to mention the act that we both lost money on the transactions. And to have the owner say he will refund shipping and compensate for refunds to turn around and do nothing, well, that's just a kick in both nuts. It would be nice for a thread for good and bad stores so no one else would have to deal with stuff like this.

I'm not talking about advertising, I'm talking about toy fans taking care of each other so we can enjoy the experience of getting the things we want and not getting ripped off. If there already is a thread or a place for this, please point the way.

Thanks for reading and I hope this posting has prevented any more crimes from being committed by Toys n Joys or any other store like it. :-B

It sounds like you guys paid with a credit card -- definitely file a dispute with the credit card company. ESPECIALLY if you have documentation from the store that you were supposed to get the whole amount back. The credit card company will be much more effective at holding their feet to the fire. Too many disputes or chargebacks could jeapordize a merchant's ability to take credit cards, which would be disastrous for them.

I second the suggestion to take the matter up with your credit card company. That's the easiest way to hold any retailer accountable.

As for ToysNJoys, I also had a lousy experience with them. I tried to order some htf TFC figures. They said it would take up to 3 weeks since it would come from their warehouse in Japan. Well after 3 weeks of nothing, I called them up, and they said it was on backorder. Well thanks for telling me! I canceled my order.
I recommend anyone dealing with them to call them on the telephone. They were friendly and helpful, but they never did respond to my emails.

I would not recommend them.

This should be a sticky, seriously. I had the same troubles with that place.

I ordered BTA's Red Alert and Broadblast. The packages were DEMOLISHED! Red Alert's leg wasn't attached either, so after opening him I had to pop it on. The figure was mint looking, but it's probably the most difficult BT to transform, that I own. Nothing wants to line up in car mode.

Broadblast, the figure is great ... but there were dead bugs inside of the box when I opened it.

I also had Red Meister in this same shipment, but he was put on back order. Many emails and months later I got him in, and to my surprise ... the box and figure were MINT. No problems there, but I had to wait a LOONG time.

As to the condition of the boxes for my BTA's, they told me that I should have paid for a better way of shipment? WTF? Like I'm sime kinda F^%#ing idiot. The cardboard box that the items were shipped in was flawless, not a scratch on it.

So I told some whack job down at Toys n' Joys that the shipping demons must've passed through the cardboard to ruin the packaging of my figures.

What a bunch of A$$holes!
