Getting rid of yellowing, how?
Sadly, I have a few white toys that have been showing signs of yellowing. Is there anything that can be done that does not involve scary things like sanding to bring back the bright white luster, or am I SOL? Please help. Thanks.
G1 Jetfire needs some love, along with Ultra Magnus.
Jetfire is his head, arms and chest plate. UM is his arms.

The yellowing is prety much in the plastic and usually not reversible. However, I did clear up some yellowing on a G1 Jetfire using Goo Gone 2 (not the regular version, this one came in a little metal can). I was quite surprised. Just be careful because it will remove paint.

Probably, but I thought you were talking about on colored plastic?

I am. The white is molded, but as you know, Jetfire has red and black stripes painted on him. I don't want to damage those.

With cleaner wax, as long as you don't rub the paint it is ok, you can wipe it off if it gets on it. I'v only tried this on colored plastic, so I wouldn't try it on anything painted. It does work pretty well though!

For White plastic I would use GOOF OFF (not the same as goo gone)and it comes in a small tin can. I use it on older white plastic parts on some of my diecast collection and it works great.
Its very strong so water it down 50/50 and use a q-tip.
I would also cover the stickers and like I said before, avoide colored plastic.
Try it on a test area first as well.

That is what I was thinking of. Goof-off, not Goo-Gone. Goo-Gone is much milder.

Buy new ones is my sarcastic remark. Hey you did get some great help though! And I learned something too!

But Jetfire is so damned expensive. Unless he just buys a loose one & has all the accesories from the old one. As for Magnus, I'd say the re-issue. Not as steep as the original, but pricey nonetheless. Good luck w/the removal though

Why not just paint a thin layer of pearl white paint over the yellowing spots?
