Dear all,

I recently purchased a loose Energon Unicron. Unfortunately during shipping one of his half shells were chipped. If anyone has any ideas if anyone at all sells loose pieces it would be great.

But my main problem is the state of the guy: he's probably been displayed for a long time because he is really dusty. I've managed to clean off most of it but there are some, especially the joints, that are difficult to get off.

How do you advise I'd clean this fellow? I also can't help but feel dusting ain't enough, that I should maybe take a paintbrush and soapy water to ths cracks and crevices to really remove those obvious specks of dust.

Any cautions/ contraindications to using water on a toy? My version is the Energon one by the way; some paint has flaked off so I'm not sure if it came that way or was it due to just poor care.

Try using canned air. It's usually for electronics but I find it works well for my figures joints and hard to reach bits that a duster wont do.

I use a stiff paint brush, they have small ones that are for dusting called dust floggers I use them a lot to clean hard to reach and the breakable.

Well, I'll probably get scolded by the more experienced cleaners here, but I just use soap and water to clean really dirty bots. Warm the water to about the same temp as a cup of tea, add just a couple of drops of dish soap. I like to use a soft-toothed toothbrush, just doing a section at a time, and drying with a paper towel as I go.

The key is to be very careful to avoid screws and any other metal parts that are prone to rust. And make sure that you shake the brush clean of all excess water before applying it. This way you get a nice coat of suds that is easy to work with, rather than a drenched robot.

Early this year I got a complete, original Sky Lynx in working condition, but it was very dirty. I used that technique and he looked almost brand new after about 90 minutes.

i use hair dryer to blow off the dust

They work perfect. Dip them in warm water and start scrubbing.

Don't use water. Especially on electronics parts. As for spare parts, try ebay. It's safer. Don't deal with independent people that you don't know. If you don't want to be tricked later.
