It is a Wheeljack homage.
The closest to a "classic" Wheeljack is Superlink Wheeljack (Japanese version of Energon Downshift). If it had blue "ears" instead of red, it would be perfect.

More or less.
He is meant to be the upgraded form of Energon Downshift who is a homage to G1 Wheeljack in everything bar name.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Yes...and no.
The Cyberton version of Downshift is a reformatted(I guess) version of Energon Downshift who is a homage to G1 Wheeljack. However, Downshift is a completely different character. He has to be since the Unicron Trilogy already has a character named Wheeljack, who happens to be a badass.

I love that Alt mode. Though I;m not too crazy about the color choice. WIsh I could get my hands on a couple of these. They just scream Pimpmobile.
Have these been seen in the back stock that's made its may to shelves again?

I saw one at a Toysrus(which I snagged), and then I saw two, each at a different Wal-Mart. Haven't seen him or much of anything else for about a month, though.

The energon one is at many KB toys in universe packaging.

I like them both but I prefer Energon Downshift because of the G1 Wheeljack homage.

Isn't that one a different repaint? And if so when was the last time you saw it?

I just ordered a couple of these from Toysrus.com. Kinda annoyed that they charged me both shipping and tax but the chances of me finding 2 in my local brick and mortar store are slime. Which of course means the next time I go in there there will be 2 sitting on shelf aand I could have used my "Are you Smarter than a 5th grader" 10% off scratch card.
Oh well I have some hilarious plans in store.

Bad ass, oh yeah.
Badly aritculated robot mode, unfortunatly oh yeah as well.
Someone needs to give that mold a major upgrade, because it had such potential.

Cybertron Downshift is an awesome figure with an awesome alt mode. I'd love to see more vintage alt modes to be honest.
The only annoying thing was the spring mechanism in the chest which was a bit too loose on mine. It kept popping out.

If Hasbro had kept the Micron Legend name of "Rampage", it would have never been an issue!

I got my Downshifts today (that's some nice ship time there Toysrus). Opened one up,and I gotta say this guy is great! He is a bit lacking on articulation (above the knee and above the elbow swivel wouldn't have killed anyone you know!). But I love his alt mode and he weapons. I Love using them as two oversized pistols!
If the customizing Idea I have in mind comes to fruition it'll be a hoot. But I've gotta finish the custom I'm working on now.
Also I have to say if the construction on this guy is indicative of te rest of the Cybertron line I can totally see why people regard it so highly. He's made of some thick plastic and just feels sturdy as heck!
