Is he any good he looks nice in the pics I've seen of him but I'd probably change his paint job.

Most people say he is awesome and I agree. Although I prefer his repaint into Robots in Disguise Scourge.

I'd recommend the Takara reissue over the original release if you want the mould coloured as Prime. The Matrix chest stickers are a damn sight better than having his name emblazoned across his chest and the chromed areas that were plain grey plastic on the original are really sweet in comparison.

RiD Scourge/Car Robots Black Convoy are probably the coolest colour variants. Scourge has Decepticon symbols while Black Convoy has anime accurate inverted G2 Autobot symbols. I believe that there's some variation in the swords between the two as well.

Don’t forget there’s also Ehobby Ultra Magnus, who is a repaint of laser rod prime. About that how rare is Ehobby Ultra Magnus? I want one but don’t know how to go about getting one.

I have the reissue. Pretty cool toy, although it doesn't have the charm of the G1 versions (Convoy, God Ginrai and Star Convoy).

I Wouldn't go that far.
He's good. but R.I.D. Prime is just too awesome IMHO.

No comparison there. Specially because R.I.D Prime has a bit more articulation than Laser Prime.

Still Laser Prime is pretty good. His Scourge repaint is even better.

Really? Because I've heard people say Black Convoy kicks R.I.D Prime's as- Uh anyways on the account that the only UM toy I have is the Classics one I think I might look for the E-hobby one.

Laser Prime is definitely one of my favorite Primes. Looks cool, great poseability. Part of me is tempted to do a bit of repainting, changing his chest to red and giving him some blue windows. But since I've had him all these years, I can't bring myself to change him now. He's one of two G2 figures that I currently have on display. I'd pick him as one of the three best Prime figures released in the US (the other two being Masterpiece and Cybertron).

I just got a Laser Optimus Prime (Battle Convoy) / Prime Of Justice Japanese reissue for $53 at a local shop.

Compaired with the original version, this reissue beats it easily with awesome new chrome placement. Takara was also nice enough to let the owner of the reissue decide if they want to apply those awful "OPTIMUS PRIME OCTANE" stickers on his trailer and chest or not. I opted to keep those ones on the sheet.

If you can get the reissue, get it instead of the original issue. The great thing about the reissue is that the flaws of the original have been fixed. 8)
