MP Megatron or MP Seeker?

Postby Sportimus Prime » Wed Jan 30, 2008 12:40 am

Hey guys. Last time I was looking to get a Music Label Soundwave. Despite his good looks, and after a little thinking and reading, it seems he is just an over-priced figure. Extremely small, and makes for a lousy player given his price. So, I've decided against getting him.

However, being a Transformer addict that I have become, I would like to get a Masterpiece figure. I have 20TH DVD Prime, and he is Masterpiece enough for me. But, I'd like to get another MP figure. I got some scratch to spare, but only for one of them (I'm saving for the new Classics, Animated, etc). My choices are essentially what is available:

MP Megatron
MP Starscream - G1 colors (Wal Mart)
MP Skywarp

Megatron sounds like he is super-easy to break. I don't plan to transform him since he seems like a pain in the ass if I get him. He looks great in bot mode anyway. But he looks fragile

MP Skywarp/Starscream also seem fragile, but not as much.

Please help me make a choice before prices really go insane... :)

Thanks. Long live Seibertron!!! 8)

Well, I don't know what my opinion stands for on this since I just got my Megs yesterday and havent transformed it yet. I like the figure, and it actually seems pretty sturdy in bot mode and fairly easy to pose. Plus he is the size of your Prime. I only have the Walmart Starscream, and I like him, but he is small compared to Prime or Megatron. He is tough to stand up (atleast mine is), but has nice articulation. His facial articulation is better than Megs IMO. As I stated in another thread, I got my Megs from Lost And Found Toys and it was $99 + $12 shipping (no tax, I don't order online much so I don't know if that is normal). They had good packaging, good communication, and the one I got was unmodded.

Get one of the seekers. They're much more stable. I've had my MP Megatron for over a year now...and he's just awful fragile. The arm joints are especially weak!

I know, I read your thread. I did not want to derail it. Congrats on your purchase. That is a fair price for him I think. I didn't think about the seekers being smaller.

That is what worries me. He has a huge (but cool) canon on his arm, and that may even make it worse.

MP Megs is iconic standing next to Prime. You can poste both of them in some cool fighting scenes.

How well does he stand? He's not going to break apart, is he? It seems like MP Skywarp and Starscream do, but they just snapback together.

Naw, not gonna bust apart. And I agree about Megs. You cannot put an MP seeker on the same shelf as MP Megs and Prime as the seekers will look very un MP next to them.

MP Megs belongs by MP Prime.

I'll take a pic later and post it for you to see what I mean. I'll put SS on his stand floating above the shelf next to Megs and OP. It will decide you on Megs.

P.S. Megs is hard to stand and pose. But once he is in position, mine is a rock.

Megatron. Not even a 2nd thought. If you are comfortable around a transformer, and careful ... you will not break it. I've transformed mine about 10 times. That's kinda pushing it, but I don't feel as if he'll break after another 20, 30 ... whatever.

Sure, he's fragile ... to a certain degree. In reality though, most of the figure is pretty sturdy. It'll be obvious which parts need careful attention.

Shoulder joints, miscellaneous plastic tabs ... spinal/skeletal area.

The hip area seems fragile, but there is enough "give" to the plastic to where one can put force on it without worrying about it
breaking too easily. Actually, if that plastic were harder ... it would have a better chance of snapping under the pressure that's
required to separate it,going back to gun mode.

With that said, don't let him fall of the shelf. He would be SOOOOO done!!!

MP Starscream is not inthe same league as MP Megatron. I actually thing MP Starscream is more fragile and he is not as fun to transform as MP Megatron and is much smaller in robot mode.

I bought MP Megatron off of ebay. I figured if I don't like him, I can always sell him and get a seeker instead. Hope I made the right choice though.

MP Megatron is a great choice. The second run the joints are much more sturdy that people have been reporting. my arm joints are almost too tight. Once you add the arm cannon the feet will not hold the weight and he will sag. There is a trick to getting to hold his stance. The top part of the foot will hinge upwards so you just rest that againt the bottom part of the gun butt on each leg and he will hold his stance perfectly.

Can't take any pictures of it right now but the trick has been said on the boards before.

If you manage to find SS locally I'd snag him quick to avoid overpaying for him later online.

I would say MP Megs just because their will always be some seeker available. First they did SS in Japanese colors (MP-03), then Skywarp (MP-06), then Walmart SS, and I think their is some rumor of a MP USA SS and you know based on the MP Skywarp packaging that we'll see T-Crack later.

Whereas there is only one Megs right now. And not alot of room to repaint him.

I'd have to say Megatron, when got my Starscream I nearly thought the box was empty he's so light. I have more fun with Megatron as well. The only thing that bothers me is the cannon, it can way down the one side and make him off balance if you are not careful.

Can anyone post pics as to how many ways Megatron can hold his canon without him drooping or falling over?

I'd say MP Megtron, granted he is fragile, but he is an awesome display piece.

The Seeker mold is more solid, but limited articulation hurts it, but if you wanted one, I'd say go for SkyWarp, dam that paint job is straight!

Still we're up to 3 repaints of the Seeker mold with potentialy more on the horizon. Megtron has virtualy no repaint value thus it would seem to be a much more limited figure. Hence his price should do nothing more than rise.

Even though I hope they do a correctionaly revist of Megs, I know they wont outside of adding more parts that JustToys has already taken care of...

So I say get him now for the $125 he avererages, get the upgrade for $50 and not pay the $400 that Takara will beat you for on the official complete release destined to come.

As for the Seekers, colors may change, but that mold isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Play the odds.

Heh, theres not many ways. There is poiting forwards or staight down. Anything else ain't happening as the cannon is too heavy.

I've had mine since the pre-orders first shipped from Japan, and the pose mines in is the best I could manage.

I have mine arm arched with it angled up in the air.

It's all in the leg spacing.
