Need your help in deciding what to buy.

Postby Sportimus Prime » Mon Jan 14, 2008 1:28 am

Hi everyone! I have my eye on three rather expensive Transformers that I would like to own. But I can not get all three, only 1. At least for now, but that could be a long while. Anyway, those three are:

Music Label Soundwave
Masterpiece Starscream (Wal-Mart)
Masterpiece Skywarp

ML Soundwave seems pretty cool.

Pro's: He will go great with the Classics line. And, he plays music. Not to mention he looks good.

Con's: He costs a LOT for such a small figure. Limited in play, and no display. Uses Mini SD cards.

I like the Blue, but do you think the Black one looks good too? I think it looks okay.

MP Starscream looks fantastic.

Pro's: Great looking in both modes.

Con's: A pain to transform, and plastic is delicate.

MP Skywarp looks more menacing. Pro and con are the same.

So, I don't know. Can ya help me out in deciding? None of the above is also an option if you have other ideas, please, tell me. I appreciate it.

Weapon: Sword
You have a tough choice to make. If I were in your situation I'd go with the Blue Soundwave because it is a much more limited release than the other two. They are in a 2nd production run due to popularity, but I doubt they will last long.

Masterpiece Skywarp, being a Takara-Tomy figure, should be your next bet since this figure has been around awhile but will soon get harder to find.

Masterpiece Starscream, while a great figure, will be easier and less expensive to get later. There will also be a Takara version coming soon.

You should consider eventually getting all three - they are worth it! If you follow the pay now or pay more later ideal, than you should go in the order I suggested in order to save the most over the long term.

So you think ML Soundwave is worth the $100 price tag despite it being so small? It's too bad that the Skywarp will be harder to find. Things come out at the wrong time for me. Argh.

Motto: "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings to randomly click things in the Admin Panel to see what it breaks."
Damn that is a tough call.

I would probably go with Lapse of Reasons thinking though. ML Soundwave seems hard to be a hard find. Get it now and you get it cheap. Wait a while and you may be paying more.

Of course MP Skywarp will probably be the same story. However, if you look at it as collecting molds, then you could wait for TakaraTomy's MP Starscream in G1 colours. As it's not released yet you should have some time to save up some money for him, whilst also splashing out on ML Soundwave.

Personally I can't decide whether to get Soundwave or not. WIth my phone upgrade i've essentially got an mp3 player, so it's not like I need him for that. However it's hard to ignore his coolness factor.

Personally would grab MP SW.

ML SW is an overpriced toy / crappy MP3 player while Hasbro's SS will be around a little while for a reasonable price.

I've got MP Skywarp and I believe he's well worth having, moreso than the Hasbro MP Starscream. I too can't decide whether or not to get ML Soundwave. He looks pretty decent but I'm not convinced he's worth the dosh for what you get. I'm also holding out hope that Classics will provide us with an even better Soundwave at a reasonable price.

ml soundwave is not hard to find. every douche on ebay has one because they don't like it's mp3 functions, and it is, a poopy mp3 player. the figure's great, but his hands have to be taken off to transform him. balls.
go with mp skywarp.

See, that's the thing. As a figure, he looks GREAT. At least to me he does (despite the hands thing). But as an MP3 player, he sucks. I really do not see myself using it as one because of his limitations like no display, using a mini SD instead of a regular SD card. And, lastly, his price is high. Even for $50, maybe. I don't know. Heck, I don't know why I like him despite those flaws.

you like him because he is a cool looking figure that is more or less a classics/mp style soudwave. but he's really not that big, and yea, the mp3 functions suck. but all my toys sit on the shelves anyways so.. i guess he would too. he's on my list to get, either him or the soundblaster color's, doesn't really matter, i would like a toy of that mold. wonder if anyone has one that doesn't work that they'd like to sell.

Yup.

but he's really not that big,

He looks rather small for a $100 toy.

The MP3 functions do suck. Especially when you can get a Nano for $149. All my toys sit on shelves too, as would ML SW. Do you think he is still worth it if he was for $65?

Do you like to gamble? If you do, then you can wait to see if Hasbro will bring out their own version of Soundwave (maybe without the mp3 player components). Could fit into the Real Gear line if they decide to continue it in 2008.

I'd recommend you go for Wal-Mart Starscream. You get the most bang for your buck; some Wal Marts even have it on sale/clearance so it might be a cheaper alternative. Can't rule out Hasbro releasing their own Skywarp so you may get a second chance on that figure.

My only option for any of these is online. My Walmart's do not have MP Starscream. :(
