Paint Rubbing Off Movie Figures

Postby Magnimus » Mon Nov 05, 2007 9:58 pm

I'm interested to hear from others if paint is starting to rub off their movie figures and Real Gear Transformers.

All my figures are loose and I handle them and transform them quite regularly, so I'm obviously not obsessive about keeping things mint. That being said, I'm quite skeptical about the quality of the movie figures (as much as I like them) being even reasonably sustainable. I've already joined in on posts about other problems with movie figure automorph features and plastic stress marks; for example, the automorph features on the feet of my Leader-class Optimus Prime are so weak now that they won't keep the toes extended.

Recently, I've been seeing some worrying signs of paint rub-off. My Real Gear Spyshot is starting to flake in places, and the "Police" decal on my Barricade is starting to rub off (see picture).

Anyone else noticing the paint starting to degrade from handling either in odd places for from places where there is sustained contact with your hands? Do you think this is normal or are you worried?

Weapon: Sword
I have heard a few stories about paint coming off of Barricade. It is a shame, too. With all the toy safety laws designed to improve the quality of toys, it is a shame that the latest movie toys are far less durable than their G1 roots.

that's the way the new 25th joes are as well. they can't compete in terms of playbility/durability with their vintage counterparts. i was just posing beachhead last night and his left leg fell off. everything then was a 'toy'. everything now is a 'collectible' it seems.

The quality of the paint apps on the Movie figures are quite bad... The black on my 70s BB's automorph button is fading, Leader Prime's chest is scraping o0ff too.

Abit of paint came off my G1 redeco of Jazz, I accidentally scratched his door very lightly and the paint just chipped off.

Which is a damn shame since Barricade has one of the best alt modest and one of the most fun transformations, in my opinion.

My CC bumblebee's racing stripes are starting to chip off, just during transformation he gets a few scuffs here and there.
