So does everyone use their shelves for display?

I ask because I'm looking into buying a display case for my transformers. I have a decent sized collection (around 80 figs consisting of G1, G2, Machine Wars, Energon, Alternators, Universe, Armada, WST, Classics, Cybertron, Movie, Titanium, Beast Wars 2 and Masterpeice Tformers) and they look cluttered on my shelves.
I've been checking out Ebay for Display cases, but a decent sized/looking one is about 350 bucks at the cheapest. I was looking more along the lines of spending 100 or 150. Does anyone know where I can get a display case for that price, or if it would just be easier to make one myself?

Here is what I did... I went to Target and purchased 4 of their 5 shelf bookcases at $29.99 each. Picked up a few pieces of molding to hide the seams and I made a corner unit.

Wow...that corner unit is freakin awesome! Sadly, my collection is probably only half the size of yours (at most lol). I love how you have the Armada seekers stuck to the back of the shelves as if they're flying...how'd you do that anyway?
Oh, and I was looking to get something more along the lines of a tower with glass doors (my mom has one for her Glass Dishes). I know that'd be expensive, but would it be feasible to buy some shelves and buy glass doors separately?
Heck, if anything I'll probably just rearrange my room and try to make a smaller corner unit with a few shelves above.
Once again, great collection and setup SoundStang...I'm pretty jealous!

The problem I have with displaying figures is that while I would love to put my whole collection on show I have a real problem with clutter, I like things tidy. So I have one shelf which I keep for Masterpiece items but which is now full and poor Skywarp has had to go elsewhere and I have one shelf unit on which I change the figures every now and then.

Now all you have to do is get rid of that funky wallpaper...
My collection is currently sitting inside my closet... my place is cluttered as it is... whenever I buy a bigger house, I'm probably gonna go the enclosed ikea glass case route to display my loose figures... cluttered and dusty transformers are an eyesore to me... which is why most of them are still MISB...

Those are incredible! How do you get your seekers to stay up 'flying'? Some kind of hangers?

Many Thanks... To hang my seekers, I simply use the twist ties that holds them in their cardboard prisons and a few well placed thumbtacks.
And Yes, I am changing out that boarder... I have Transformer Movie boarder that is going up as soon as I can summon the will to move all those toys again.. (As those are picture of just 1 corner of the room)

I'm going to second the whole Ikea idea. I may be wrong but they have the enclosed glass cases for about 60.00. Granted, I don't think they're huge or anything but it's a reasonable price for what I hear is a very good product.

I don't have a displaying big shelf. Even if I did I would display them for a day or so and then put them back in their box. Don't want them to collect dust.

Holy Cow that looks fantastic! I've got wall shelf units set up. It keeps my collection looking nice but for some reason that bookcase corner unit you did just makes such a better statement.
Collection Count: Just enough G1 & Classics to make this look good!

That is one nice setup
I have seen this one dude who uses fish tanks to display his stuff
He must have over 30 stacked on each other side by side and the figures from each show are in the different tanks
That is one display that doesn't need dusting

I display mine in the toilet.
Or should I say... TOYlet.
Just remember not to flush.
What? Mineralblue knows what I'm talking about.

Just watch out for the detolf if you're living with someone. I thought it would have a high "wife acceptance factor", but she saw it in Ikea and thought it looked crappy and cheap.
Right now I've got them sitting in one of these:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60071358
The wife likes it, there's plenty of space, and the grids make for a nice way to divide up the collection. Only problem is kids and pets can still get at them. We also looked at the "Billy" series of bookshelves that have optional glass doors.

My collection started atop my desk, then moved to a half empty bookshelf, now they are spread all over the place, most of my figures remain squished on a small Tv Unit about Knee height tall, my alts stayed on the Bookcase, and the rest float around other shelves or are stored away.
I would love to have the space to ahve multiple shelves/bookcases to display them all in properly though.

The $169.95 and the $70.00 are from city liquidators downtown Portland Oregon and open from the side.
The $119.95 its from Fred Meyer similar to Target and opens from the front and I painted it black and added lights to it.
Rather not have to dust so much so these cases work well for me.
You can find less expensive cases that work and look good.

This is very simillar to how I have mine set up in one corner, except I didn't use molding to hide the seams, so they're still obvious, but I think it looks cool. I'll have to post pics sometimes.
The area between the shelves in the corner also makes a great place to put things you don't see yourself needing for a while...
