I saw it and liked it. There were a few things that didn't make it feel like a Terminator movie, but rather a movie with the same story as a Terminator movie. Maybe a bit shallow on my part, but for me, not having Schwarzenegger in it (yes and no) it didn't feel like one. It's almost like an Evil Dead movie without Bruce Campbell. Plus the action didn't seem over-the-top in the same way as it was in T2 and 3.
And... I don't know... some of the characterization didn't come out well. I read some character bios after I saw the movie and never got an impression of some of these characters the way they were written up.
But it was a movie about robots. And that's what you get.

Sigh....Why does it always have to be this way. I have a pretty firm grasp of "Salvation". Do you have a understanding of cross-typing, rejection, anti-rejection drugs for the rest of your life, the insane complexity of that type of operation. Besides Marcus seemes like he would be a quite the valueable asset in their war, a human terminator on their side.

If this wasn't an action movie, I'd agree with you. But it IS an action flick, and spending half the movie as the main character recovers from heart surgery isn't quite my idea of a good time. What would Die Hard be like if John McClane was in surgery for half the movie?
El Duque wrote:Besides Marcus seemes like he would be a quite the valueable asset in their war, a human terminator on their side.
He could have been. Of course, then John Conner would be dead, and the resistance would go down the crapper with any continuity the series has left.

I know, I know it's all about suspension of disbelief, and if you're willing to accept machines have taken over the world than why not this. For some reason it just didn't sit well with me, and I heard several others on the way out of the theater saying the same thing. I liked Marcus much better than John though, and I think the resistance could survive the death on Connon. I know he is the main focus of all the movies really, but as we've seen the future is constatly changing in the Terminator Universe. Wouldn't that make it all the more ironic if Skynet's own creation became the new leader of the resistance and ultimately brought them down?

No, it would make a temporal paradox if Connor had died. John Connor must survive long enough to send Kyle back in time or it will be one of the biggest plotholes ever!

Unless of course Marcus sent him back, he potentially knows everything Skynet does. I concede your point though, otherwise this whole thing will spiral out of control. How about just keeping them both alive?

I still want to see it...I'm really not that much into "Terminator" and I freely admit the reason I want to see it is Christian Bale...as some of you pointed out already "continuity" and the Terminator franchise seem to not go together.
But it hopefully will be a great action flick.

It is NOT. The only action is at the end. this is a waste of time and money, as I've said before. If you're not a Terminator fan (and even if you are) this is not recommended. Horrible movie. No story, no good acting, and it's slow.

I dont know what movie you saw, there is action in the first 10 minutes, the whole 7/11 harvester scene, the road/ canyon stuff. THe fight after marcus gets out, and then the end.
Seems you may have a little bit of robot envy.

Lasts 5 of the 10 minutes.
the whole 7/11 harvester scene
Another 5 minutes
the road/ canyon stuff.
That was perhaps the only decent action scene other than the fight at the end
THe fight after marcus gets out, and then the end.
Get out from where? Skynet or the resistance HQ?
Seems you may have a little bit of robot envy.
What. The. ****. Does that mean?
I did find a positive thing, now that I think about it. Michael Ironside is still alive.

Exactly. The only time I thought it went slow was when the only time there wasn't action and that was when Marcus and whatshername were sitting down at the fire.
This movie is action-packed.

Then I must have seen a poopy cut of the movie, because what I saw was 30 minutes of action (including the end fight) and 1 hour and 40 minutes of blah blah blah that in no way had any bearing on the story established in the previous films.

It had no bearing, once again are you sure you werent watching something else? Lets see, There was the search for young kyle reese so that john could keep an eye on him so that the events come full circle. There was the development of the robots and the progression from 8 foot tall rubber bots to full fledged cyborgs. There was john coming face to face with the type of bot that would eventually haunt his own mother and lead to his very own creation. There is the "salvation" that a death row inmate that was modified in order to once again lead to the death of john connor ends up saving his "soul" so to speak and sacrificing his existance for the greater good, and the irony of his enemies creation helping to save his life.

This movie connected a lot more with the first two than the third one. T3 is the sh*tty film of this series imo.

And the discovery of the T-800s at the beginning, plus the harvesting of humans, which finally reveals how they get the skin for the robots (and probably how the Terminators know so much about how to kill us. As Schwarzenegger said in T2, they have extensive knowledge of humans to make them better killing machines).

Yeah, that's the gist of the movie. It could have been told in 1 hour + 30 minutes of action. Then it would have been a good movie. But with all the talk, it seemed like it was about 5 hours long.
OK, I was wrong to say it had no bearing on the previous films. But it was hard to recognize the important parts with all the garbage put in there. It seemed that the director wanted so bad to make a good impression, he overdid it. You can be a Terminator fan, that's fine. Until this movie came out, so was I. But this movie is definitely subpar, it wasn't even #1 at the box office, even with an extra day, and a rating of PG13 to make it friendlier. It made alright money, over $60 mil, but wasn't even close to Wolverine, not even Star Trek, and definitely won't even sniff Transformers 2.

None of those movies went up a kids movie, 90% of the time you will lose when that happens. I should have come out a week earlier in order to have 2 weeks before going against "up"
And the movie was just shy of 2 hours so it wasnt too long by anymeans imo

Seemed like it...
I T5 will be made, I think the story of that movie will determine how much of this movie was necessary.

T5: The Search for Anti-rejection Drugs. Skynet has finally found John Connor's weakness and hoarded them all. Kyle's secondary mission from the first movie was to find a bunch of anti-rejection drugs and bury them in a coffee can in a place that only the future John Conner can find them.

A movie should stand on its own story. You shouldn't have to wait for a sequel to form an opinion, no matter the story of T5. I think it would be a bad move on the producers' part to make T5 a payoff for T4, or any movie series for that matter. Maybe there is an exception to this rule... but I can't think of one aside from tiny details.

I think Empire Stikes Back is an example of a great movie that doesn't really stand without StarWars and Return of the Jedi. I mean if you had no prior SW knowledge and only watched ESB it really wouldn't make much sense, but it's probably my favorite SW movie.
