That type of thing never happens in comics
He looks like a Cap/Surfer/Punisher hybrid, which makes be wonder, wheres the web shooter and a 3 clawed hand

It's inspired, but half-assed. Even Alex Ross's art abilities have trouble with the look.
Wasn't there a rumor a while back that the Punisher would be taking up the Captain America Mantle? It seemed that way to me during the Civil War storyline as Punisher wouldn't even put up a fight against one of his icons. If so, that might explain the gun.

Last month's War Journal Castle stated he could never live up to the title of Captain America. He had Cap's mask and returned it to Bucky.
As for who the new Cap is, i'm guessing that soldier that's having visions of Cap. Currently being told in a mini-series, the name of which currently escapes me.

So the Cap gets a shiny new metallic suit? Thats what the art is telling me...
I hope this gets back-lashed so hard that Alex Ross's mother can feel it.
I really dislike this look, and the gun for Cap, and I'm not even a big fan of the series.

In hindsight, I realized my idea has actually been done before. There was a What If ep where Frank Castle was given the Captaim America Mantle after Steve Rogers became Nomad.

It looks better in some pictures than others, especially when the metallic aspect isn't so obvious.
Either way, Ultimate Captain America FTW. For one thing he doesn't have the dopey wings on his head.

Didn't cap use a gun when he was fighting Nazis???
The costume is okay. I think Alex Ross does a fantastic job painting anything. His designs are usually top notch too!

Just looking at some of the pictures it looks like Bucky/Wintersoldier type of thing. Honestly I think it is what they are planning no matter if we like it or not.

Why is it that the costume reminds me of the design Ross did for the Spidey movies...

I have one where Punisher becomes attached to the Venom symbiote, really interesting.
I'm going to be a rebel here and say that I like it. If the costume wasn't so plain on the lower half it'd be good but its just plain black.
As far as the gun, its the modern age, everyone has a gun. So why wouldn't the symbol of American patriotism not have a gun? If he didn't I'd think communism.

no joke! cut off a dudes hands, and stabbed him in the chest with his own lightsaber!!
that sure as hell better not be steve rogers. its probably bucky, with the metallic similar to his arm and the black that is oh-so fashionable for anti-heroes.
and the gun- how is he supposed to reload when he is holding the shield???

Thanks, Tweezy

I've always loved Captain America. When Civil War started, I was eager to see the rematch between Cap, and my other childhood hero, Iron Man. The fight between those two in the Vault when I was a kid was the most shocking thing (to me anyway), I'd ever seen in comics.
In the Nineties, they really wussified Cap. I couldn't stomach the book. After Heroes Reborn, I read the new book, but dropped it after the first arc, once it went back to formula.
Captain America was a WWII vetran. He fought the Nazi's on their own turf. Yet he's afraid to do what he needs to to stop the really bad guys. Come on!
I hope this series makes Cap a little more likeable and believeable again. I hate to say it, but he was old and needed to be put down. So does most of the Marvel line. For years I've seen new characters come and go who had so much potential.
They put it best in Runaways:
"I've been to every alternate future there is, and it's all the same. 50 year old men in tights fighter over stuff no one cares about anymore".
Kill 'em all and let the readers sort 'em out.

Which is great if you're fighting the Phantom of the Park.
