How is it possible that voltron lead to power rangers
I have been sitting here racking my brains trying to figure out how something like voltron could lead to something like power rangers. I would love to for someone to explain the logic behind this since voltron for it time was pretty darn violent and then have power rangers which is about as close to a children version of the old godzilla films as you're going to get. These shows in no way resemble them each other yet somehow they are related. I really hope someone can explain this two me because I'm having a hard time grasping it.

Same creators/company or some crap like that.
Story wise they're not connected at all.

Voltron didn't lead to Power Rangers. That's why it seems weird to you.
Also, you're coloring it with your opinion. Voltron and Power Rangers are exactly alike in quality, from a non-fan perspective. Both have the same plot over and over again, and both have primary colored animal/dinosaur/monster/vehicle robots that turn into a big humanoid combiner.
I first realized Voltron was stupid when there was an episode of some girl whose brother gets turned into a monster and so Voltron kills the monster everyone celebrates except the girl who is screaming and crying the whole time, and I thought "Wow, not only is that unnecessary depressing melodrama, but it also took a concept that could have been different and interesting and did the exact same thing with it." If I'd seen that **** when I was a little kid I probably would have broken all my Voltron toys. It's either terrible writing or excellent marketing. Probably both.
Both of them, and more, come from Japanese shows called Super Sentai. Voltron is just an animated version of the genre. All the fight scenes in Power Rangers look like old quality footage because they are. They are all from the 70's and Japan. Only the out of costume scenes, or scenes with helmets off, are new footage. The 1995 movie was also all new footage.

Actually, Spider-Man played a part too. Well, the Japanese Live Action Spider-Man anyway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_%28tokusatsu%29
I'd like to see the series, a couple youtube vids I saw made it look interesting. Well, more interesting than the 1970's American Spider-Man "movie"(which I think was just the TV pilot).
Yes, Spidey had a mech. And here it is, and it transforms too boot!

You know, it always freaked me out how they blended super old video in with newly recorded video in Power Rangers. The fact that they took old costumes and recreated them in the modern day and then managed to blend the both together was a pretty good feat for 1993 or so.

Well, I honestly can't care, both were knda crap. The fact Power Rangers survived so long in itself was an atrosity...
But like Zarak said, good marketing.

A large number of villains were also new footage. Zedd was the first, and they had an American made villain almost every series after Zeo.

Man Lord Zedd was the ****. I loved when they first showed him in the series. And when they did add him in, they also got new people to play Rita and Goldar just so they could interact with each other. Was tight. I think I still have my Lord Zedd figure. Push a button on the back and his visor lights up.

Wanna know something crazy? When my class had a quest speaker talking to us about pitching and series' bibles, he told us about how back in the 80's Stan Lee and Suki Levy went around the networks pitching the idea for Power Rangers. No body thought it would work, but a few years later...
kinda makes you wonder what could have been.
