History of Heavy Metal War, for the new guys

Alright, I'm new to these forums and this game, I'll not deny that.
I'm curious though, what's happened in Heavy Metal War since its launch, its most controversial moments, moments when the masses cheered for a new feature, etc.
If anyone has anything 'memoriable' to say about this game during its history, would you mind sharing your stories to us.
I'm curious is all, and I'm sure others are.

Oh you know, the RDD and AWC creations, the Big Oops, Dark Tidings Tournament, the taking of the forums and game away from us by Seibertron. There are other things as well.

The game came out when I was a newbie. I played as an Autobot for the first few weeks, and after it got reset the first time, I became a Decepticon.
Then there was a bunch of Drama.
After that I became an Autobot again when they tried to even up the sides.
Some more drama, but not quite as bad.
Then I became a moderator.
Slightly less drama.
That's all the important stuff.

That concerns me too, but I'm going to continue to give the benefit-of-the-doubt. H-1 had a fair question afterall.

HMW has had a chequered history.
Some bad **** happened, then some really bad ****, followed by some almost good stuff that eventually all went to ****. Then nothing happened for ages and now lots of stuff is happening all at once. Some of it may be **** we'll just wait and see.
It like is a new sheet waiting to be torn off and wiped with...

But bear in mind, all that old **** happened with a different person programming the game. So hopes are high that all the new stuff will actually be as good as it sounds.

Ease up there junior. All that "old ****" was NOT the fault of the programmer of the time.
This is why threads like this fail all the time. All the old crap is brought up and someone stumbles along THINKING they know the facts when they know nothing.

Yes, Glyph was an A1 fella, and absolutly NONE of the **** (that I can remember) was in anyway atributal to him.
There is one event above all others that personified the phrase 'shitstorm'. Luckily I was stil very much a newb at that point, and hadnt even ventured into the forums yet.

Well let me put it to you this way! The game was simple, fun, and free! Basically still is the same, but way more to do now! As a newb years ago I never went into the forums! Didn't need to, but now with all the updates it almost a can't live without! I remember the big oops long ago, and let me tell you that sh*t sucked! My friend and I both lost like half our XP and when we bitched about it! We where told there was no record of it and nothing was done! We both took a huge break from the game! Thank god for backups, and generousity now though!

Finally hit 500!

Good to know, I mistook the kind of **** he was talking about. And burn, you don't need to be insulting about it, I wasn't trying to diss anyone, I was merely trying to keep new players from thinking things were going to be bad after the V2 launch, which is one of the ways the post I responded to could very easily be taken. We have quite a few new players on the board right now, and I was just watching out for them. And for the sake of clarity on my part, I don't have a problem with the fact that you corrected me, actually I prefer to know when I am wrong about something, I just have a problem with the less than polite approach you took on doing it. Reference Redimus' post (the one right after yours) which did the job just fine, without taking subtle stabs like junior and know nothing. It's not that big of a deal, it's just that it is by no means necessary to be that way.

Okay, everyone stop a moment to appreciate the irony of the direction this thread is heading...
Okay, that said, Y.O., your going to need to grow a thicker skin if that ruffled your feathers. For one thing, in board terms, "Junior" does describe you accurately, so I don't think you need to take that as a "stab". Secondly, this is heading the direction of dredging up bad vibes, so you need to be prepared for people to get a bit snippy.
And Burn, while I don't think your words reached into the realm of being unreasonable, a more 'positive' approach can also get the job done. Threads may fail because of know-it-all rookies, but they occasionally fail because of grouchy impatient veterans as well.
If your concerned about people getting the facts right, rather than just waiting for someone to be wrong and correcting them, why not contribute your own unbiased, objective account of HMW history?
Just sayin'; when someone complains about a lack of tourneys, you tell them to go make one themself. To my mind, same philosophy applies here.

I agree, it wasn't that bad, it just annoyed me, and I've learned in life to deal with that kind of stuff when I'm just annoyed, rather then waiting until I'm pissed about it, so that way I won't handle it the wrong way. I mainly posted that b/c I didn't expect it would be the last time he responded to me in that way. Normally I do have a thicker skin though. But in hind sight, I probably should have used the PM system to do that and I apologize for putting that out on the board. Sorry everyone. And I'll try to take what Burn says with a grain of salt in the future.

My HMW history sort of goes back to the creation of faction forums. I recal MP asking for team allegances to join them. I inquired and was told I need to actually play the game. So I did...and did...and did...
There was a lot of good things going on and a lot of bad. I know that when I joined V2 was just around the corner... that was in 2005. It appears much closer now than it did then.
I joined the RDD, had a falling out with them as I disagreed with how somethings were handled. That's okay, they're a good bunch for the most part.
I have seen some evolutions of the game, some minor resets (notmajor ones) and and then the oops of November 2005. That's when the tourny whompped the game. It was kinda funny, butI was not even near any interesting levels.
I encountered Burn, he scared me, upset me, but on MSN Burn is quite a good guy, he knows his slag.
I got to know some of the moderators. Mkall is pretty cool and Alphastrike looks good in a dress.
I have, made a number of friends through HMW and these are the good things. I made friends.
My best friend, Pulsar, I managed to drag in early 2005 - 2006 and despite her initial resistance it became like crack to her. Oh yeah, she's addicted. She's a dedicated and good player.
I keep out of the flame wars for the most part. I really cannot be bothered with them. They are too much stress over a game.
So the history of this game is about fun. I've seen alot of it since my time in 2005. Glyph was an awesome guy and Omega Sentinel is also a very great guy. Curtious.
So that's my "history" or how I have viewed it.

The whole "Junior" thing wasn't meant as a reference to how long Y.O. has been here, it was just the first thing that popped into my head.
See, personally, I don't give a hoot how long a person has been here. A person's join date or post count is NOT a reflection on who the person is.
But isn't a bit funny when you tell us all to settle down and then turn around with this
If your concerned about people getting the facts right, rather than just waiting for someone to be wrong and correcting them, why not contribute your own unbiased, objective account of HMW history?![]()
Just what is that suppose to mean anyway Caelus? That I tell MY own version of HMW history? That perhaps my version is different from yours?
Perhaps i'm "passionate" about "telling the truth" about what's happened in the past because I made a number of mistakes, mistakes that lead to flame wars and a lot of other problems, mistakes that I regret and mistakes that I have tried to make up for yet seem unable to do so because threads like this pop up every few months and the **** is brought up again?
Why, just a few months ago Jesus Prime tried to tell the history of HMW from his perspective and that thread was shut down very quickly.
It's clearly obvious that no matter how many times the stories are told, people are still going to have their own different versions of what happened.
I'm all for learning from the mistakes of the past, but while different versions of the "truth" float around then we're never going to move on and get over things.
That's why I didn't add my "own unbiased, objective account of HMW history", because i'm sick of the past being dragged up and people not moving on.

It was supposed to mean that, being neither a moderator nor a subfaction groupy, you might be able to offer an objective point of view on the past.
That, and when you want to, you can write quite well and quite fairly, so if I would want someone to record the history of HMW, I'd probably want it to be you.
Anyone ever tell you you're too quick to look for an insult?

Or it could be that I don't know how to take you.
One second you and I are getting along, the next I see snippy little remarks from you.
Not only that, we all know how hard it is to actually convey inflections and stuff through forums thus leaving things easily open to misinterpretation.
I also wouldn't consider myself to be unbiased, even though I may not be a moderator or a member of any sub-faction, when it comes to the history of Dark Tidings, I fully support the RDD's side of things.

Unique thought here, but what about the history of the GAME and NOT THE POLITICS. Which came first: arena or missions? What upgrades have there been (before the V2 implementations? How many bots could you make to start? Stuff like that.
This way, some history is provided, we ditch the BS of these treads as nothing really ever seems to come of them other than anger/hate and the dark side, and a productive history lesson is learned.

Smart boy ...
• When the game began, we were only able to active 4 bots at a time.
• When installing armour, bots had to be active and took up an active slot while armour was being installed
• Arena and Missions both started when the game was launched.
• There were no missions for (if I recall) anything over level 2.
• You use to be able to access alt modes that were NOT in the active database through changing the alt id in the url bar, this was eventually deemed "cheating" and a number of codes were updated so that you couldn't change anything in the url to access normally unavailable items. (including weapons)

A) I didn't intend for those marks to be injuriously snippy.
B) You remind me of a friend I had in college, so I tend to talk to you the same way. Needless to say, you aren't the same person, soo that's faulty behavior on my part.

Edit: And you beat me to it.

Frag, I'd forgotten about that.
I might add that while waiting for missions to start, your bots had to stand in the snow.
Both ways.
