Transformers movie toys
Why do the toys for the Transformers movie have pictures of Cybertron characters on them? The digital camera shows Ransack, the video camera shows Override, and the hand held game has Jetfire.

I think a lot of people have been wondering the same thing. I suspect they may have been planned and held-over from the Cybertron line the same way the new Mini-cons released as Classics were. It's not just the pictures, but the designs themselves (especially the heads) just don't mesh with the film designs.

Meaning they look too good to fit in with the movie.

Meaning they don't look like a cross between a War Within TF, a Bionicle, and a Gundam.
I like the object-formers a lot.

I also think it may be an aid to helping kids make the link between the movie and cybertron. There is quite a departure in design and everything apart of the name of the brand, so anything to help smooth over the change will help.

Seconded.
Have the movie designers ever seen a Transformer. Never seen a movie based on a pre-existing licence differ so much from the original.
Much prefer the Nissan ad bots.

I definitely agree with you. I do not think the objectformers are 'left over', they are 'in' the movie so to speak, as has been rumored.
Since they are kids toys it makes sense to link them with pictures from the last kids toys/cartoon produced.
The pictures of movie autobots and decepticons would be too detailed, or scary for the kids. Having said that, I know they are making children's books from the movie, so you'd think at least Bumblebee could have made it on one. So scratch that 'scary' theory...
Perhaps they did not have finalized movie designs to put on as stickers when they needed to get these into production?

They were marketing "scary movies" to kids back in the 90's. They made Terminator 2 action figures, Aliens and Predators, Jurassic Park, etc. It's not quite the same, but it's similar in a sense.
Uh, why DID they market R rated movies as children's toys back then anyway?
