So here's the question. Who preferred which movie. Do you like the 1986 Transformers movie best? Or do you prefer the new '07 Transformers movie more?
I definitely prefer the '86 TF:TM much much more.Having said that though the new movie was good, just not as good as it could have been compared to the original.

i say it's a toss up being that i have been watching transformers since 84'. ooo im sooo telling my age.
anyway, i love the hell out of the 86' movie and i love the new movie the same. IMO they both stand their ground for the time eras that they were released in. i just hate how they killed almost all my favs in the 86 movie.
i still get mad when i watch prime die.

I was lucky with the '86 movie cause Cliffjumper my favorite survived; thus, proving his superiority

I don't think ones better than the other just different. Though I tend to like the old story line better, this new version has good potential for a good story. Have to wait and see where it goes from here.

There's no comparison, the new film destroys the 1986 animated feature. C'mon guys, let's be realistic, we love the 1986 movie because of nostalgia but honestly if you can take a step back and really look at it you'd see it's not a very good movie. Several parts of it are poorly animated, the storyline is much too dark for a kid's movie, there's a ton of plot inconsistancies, and a lot of portions are just goofy and stupid. EVERY single person I've watched it with that was seeing it for the first time hated it and thought it was a horrible movie. It's one of those things where it was good in 1986, and it's good to us now because we saw it then, but if you didn't see it then and you're seeing it now for the first time it's laugh-out-loud bad.

Whisper, that sig is amazing.
On another note, I will never compare these two movies. It's like me trying to compare beast wars and RID or something. Sure, one might think one is better then the other,as per their personal opinion, but to try and officially compare the two seems silly to me.
I'll always watch both movies and I'll always put Beast Wars up at the top with them.
Edit: 86 movie was obviously an extended weekday episode of our cartoon show. We knew a huge chunk of the characters already, we knew what Transformers were all about.
This is a new continuity, new technology, new era. Sorry, it's not much of an informative continuity yet, since there's only been a book (who i doubt most have read), some comics, and now the movie.
Give it awhile.

We all know that the '86 movie was campy, but that's why its still so darn entertaining 20 years later. The new movie didn't impress me and I don't see it holding up in 20 years. That's just how I see it.
