British Promotion

Postby Gee-atron » Sat Aug 11, 2007 3:24 pm

In Britain we have had SO little promotion for the film, no fast food promos (EDIT Oops we got Burger King), little toystore dedicated stands.. basically it's been pathetic! Plus not all stores are selling the range apart from legend class! What has the US been like??

The US is pretty different to the UK. I believe Hasbro & the people behind the movie didn't think the movie would be too big here, hence the delay in releasing both movie & figures. However they kinda dug their own graves. By thinking it wouldn't be big, they didn't hype it up. By not hyping it up they reduced their chances of it being big. But hey, the US response is big enough to make the UK response insignificant so I guess they don't care.

But I agree, the UK promotion is pathetic!

Just hope it's not going to end up as just another film!

nah, I don't believe Hasbro and Paramount could be that stupid.

The movie was released in Australia a few days before the US, we got the toys around the same time. Hasbro KNOW the Australian fanbase is smaller than the UK yet we always get far more.

Hasbro UK are simply idiots who seem content to sit on their arses and not push TF's in the UK.

Not pushing them? They're not even pointing them in the right direction & prodding it slightly so it'll move...

It's really more of a "set it down there & hope it'll move of its own steam..."

????
No fast food promos? - theres the burger king promo that has made the papers because its promoting a violent film to young children.

Been to toys r us lately? - front of store priority displays

adverts are on all the time for the film and more so now the game, the game is the UK all format number 1 at the minute.

Woolies proudly boasts they sell transformers on posters in the window (their selection is subpar but woolworths have never been great for toys in my opinion)

Didn't know about Burger king, will check it out today! As for TRU, they are the only toy store which still has a front of store promo!

My local Woolworths (Worthing and Brighton) only had their display up for a week, mainly due to only having a couple of leader primes and legend class asst..! Nice posters in the window but no stock to promote?? Sad because people may not remember that Woolies and Tesco USED TO BE mainly toy shops (Were going back to the early 80's)

Tesco's used to be mainly a toy shop? I thought it was a market grocery.

Are British people not much interested in TF?

I heard Chinese are really hot on TF. Once major toy shops in HongKong restock their TF toys, Chinese from China mainland would descend down, and wipe the stores clean in a jiffy. And leave HK citizens empty and disappointed.

I worded that badly, In the early 80's the stores would have a very large and extensive toy dept. I remember getting the G1 TF's there! I always collected Star Wars and Tesco was one of the best places to go, they were on a par with Gamleys!, this was the case for Woolworths too!

Postby Prime's Trailer » Sun Aug 12, 2007 2:51 pm

I haven't seen any adverts on TV for the BK promotion here in the UK.
The TV adverts for the movie only appeared over here on terrestrial a couple of weeks before the movies' release.
Having said that, the posters for the movie were up at my local cinema last autumn.

The movie posters have been up for ages. I remeber 1 place I went to had the posters 6 months before the US release. As for TV/film promotion...whaa? There hasn't been much on TV where I am and even now all the trailers are the very first 1s with the Mars bit. And as for toys - I have to e-Bay even the most basic stuff (except the FABs and Titaniums).

It apears from where I am, the UK's been left alone.

I didn't see any TV trailers for the movie till a couple of days prior to release, and I think I've only seen it at all once or twice.
I haven't been looking too hard for movie figs, since I haven't had the scratch for 'em, but when I went in the Vic Centre Woolies the other day, they had two Voyager Ratchets, a couple of Protoform Starscreams and an FAB Jazz...

It may have been blessing in disguise for you guys not having much advertisements before the showing.

The movie commercials were misleading. You'd end up quite disappointed if you see the commercials before the movie.

In my opinion, the absence of commercials could be intentional. They probably learned from the reactions of US and other countries audiences.
