Personally I have no problem with him directing TF2, as long as he stays away from the shaking cam during the battles. Leave that to Battlestar Galactica.

I'm the same way. Hopefully he does leave the shaky cam thing out of the next Transformers movie. I have nothing against Michael Bay. And I wish him all the best for Transformers 2.

He did an excellent job with this one, and I believe he can do a good job with the next. But as said before he needs to tone down the shaky cam.

Michael Bay has to return. Even if hes not the best director in the world, every time a sequel is made that has a different director, it turns out crappy and strays off the plot.

Bay sucked.

Postby Retrospex » Wed Oct 10, 2007 4:14 pm

I think Michael Bay is a terrible director. Why?

Let's start with:

The Transformers is a very intricate story. This movie was too simplistic. Not enough content. Too much talking by humans, not enough scenes to really push this thing forward. For Bay to give the go ahead shows where his priorities lay. Hollywood deadlines.

Humans got more screen time and our beloved TF characters (save for Prime and Bee) weren't detailed enough.

No pre-Earth story scenes. (Cybertron's war anybody?)

Too much product placement shots that went waaaay overboard.

The bots and animation looked great but Bay didn't do it himself. Sometimes I couldn't even make out what was going on?

The shaky cam. It's good for a bit but for almost every fight scene... bad.

Too many humans sub plots and not enough TF subplots.

The Decepticons didn't even HAVE A SCENE FOR THEMSELVES! No character set up whatsoever. They just showed up to fight and pretty much that's all they had. At least Bay distinguished that they were evil.

Why Megatron had very little dialogue baffles me.

I could go on and on but whatever. It's Hollywood. They do what they want.

Ideally for a "sci-fi" flick... I think either Terry Gilliam or the Wachowski Bros. (or bro and sis lol) could TRUMP Bay in an astrosecond.

Hell... Ridley Scott, Robert Rodriguez are good directors that have my vote.

Too bad we have to put up with Michael Bay and the politics of Dreamworks and Hasbro.

Sorry... no vote here.

Well so far TF has grossed $316,476,438 worldwide, which makes it successful. Michael Bay did a good job with the special effects, and captured the feeling of true friendship between the Autobots and humans. While the Decepticons left something to be desired in their distinct lack of personality (with the exception of Megatron and maybe Barricade) I thought that he did a pretty good job.

I'd like to see Spielberg get a little bit more involved, though. Let the sequel go more into the war story and less into the human factor. We know enough about the humans, let's see more about the robots now.

Agreed. But in the long run.... it's his name all over it. The writing was terrible and boy was I dissappointed.

Yes, the bots looked cool and I'm glad TF's are alive and kicking today on the big screen.

Are we talking business? In that aspect, yes. It was a huge success by grossing that much but it still doesn't make it a well directed, well written movie. That number represents marketing. I'm sure the Dreamworks shareholders are happy.

Again, the special effects were great but thank Industrial Light and Magic not Bay. Besides... the budget for the whole production roughly $150,000,000 to make and market this money maker. I bet the marketing cost more than the actual movie production budget itself.

Optimus and BB held most of the screen time so they pretty much stole the friendship thing with the humans. My perception with the rest of the Autobots led me to believe that they really didn't give a sh!t about the humans.

Thank you. No more humans. More bots. Where's Tom Hanks when you need him? He'd do a better job directing TF2. ;-)

Bay did well with the action shots, they were decent, but far too blurred, but I'm not sure if that was a Bay of ILM decision.

The story of the second movie will have to be very simple for Bay to direct though, if big words are used he gets confused.

If Bay can learn from the mistakes of TF1 (tons of them), then he is good for TF2 and beyond.

If Bay continues to justify and insist he was correct in TF1, then pleasssssssssee, boot his ass out!

He will be a good choice because there will be a consistency between the sequel and the first film.

He will be a bad choice (for me) because I don't really like his style. Nothing personal towards him; it just doesn't pour my tea.

I have no problem with him directing the sequel, I expected it and it well certainly benefit constancy between the two movies. However it diesnt do much for my optimism that TF2 will be all that good if it's the same team as TF1. Hopefully it will be a huge improvement on TF1, but I don't hold out much hope.
