Revenge of the Fallen is how big?
When creating a summer blockbuster film with plenty of computer generated effects and characters, the amount of information stored is often an indicator of exactly how much cgi is to be included in the film, and to a lesser extent, the quality of the cgi in both detail and consistency with its interactions with any live action components.
Thanks to an article on worstpreviews.com, it is now known that the first Transformers film took up 15 terabytes of diskspace on the Industrial Light and Magic servers, not a small amount by any stretch of the imagination. To put the amount of disk space used by the first film, a single terabyte is the equivalent of 1,048,576 megabytes.
However Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen not only eclipses the 15 terabyte mark set by the original, it completely dwarfs it, requiring a total of 140 terabytes of ILM disk space.

Well it sounds like I will be enjoying this film given the effort that has gone into the special effects at the very least.

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

Re: Revenge of the Fallen is how big?
Thats not that big. My mates got about that much space taken up with Anime in his storage room. Admitedly it is just about every anime...Ever! in Original language, official and fan dubbed and subbed and it does take a special cooling system to stop it setting his carpet on fire in the room above.
Its really cool thoughy. You can sit a beer on top of it and its frosty in about 5 minutes.
But I digress.
That is a lot for a movie

"Farrar added that the 60 robot characters that play in these backgrounds will now interact much more with that world."
60 robots?!?
Now I know most of these 'bots are gonna be little more than cannon fodder during battle scenes, but still, that's somethin' to forward to!

Over 1 million megabytes times 140!?
Eh, it's nothing new, that fact came up quite a while ago.

I don't recall hearing the number 60 before. I remember hearing '20 or more per side,' but never a solid number like 60.
Could you be so kind as to point out when and where this fact was given previously? 'Cause somehow I seem to have missed it.

No problem. Here's the Seibertron page about it when it was a rumour...

Here's some others; I picked up the fact in a yahoo site where some of the bots were given brief descriptions - cant seem to find it anymore though.

Wow. I am guessing a lot of that went into devastator, though having 60 bots probably padded it quite a bit. No matter, this is good news. More bots and fights, less people and talking.

Re: Revenge of the Fallen is how big?
Most of it though is probably dirt, fake trees so they can make it seem more realistic if the robots touch them, fake dirt that moves from them, fake splashes, that whole aircraft carrier that sinks is fake, that tower and everything demolisher runs over, the trees in the forest, cars and everything devy sucks up, countless things like lightposts....
They could put it all together and render a city if they wanted.
But I'm sure a lot of it is still Devastator, Prime, Jetfire, and everyone else.

I second that! More robots! Less humans! More Megatron! Less Witwicky! (But I'll allow a masturbation joke or two)

I'm just waiting for the rumors that that much disk space will destroy the fabric of space-time like they were saying about the Hadron Collider.
HK, secret conspiracy theory!

Wasn't that in Angels & Demons? (Haven't seen it yet, will do this weekend.)
But yeah, after readin the novelization, it is clear there will be a lot less human interaction, aside from Sam. Even Mikaela won't be in it as much.

And what a cryin' shame that would be. On the 'plus' side, we'll get to see a lot more OF her in the other sense. Booty shorts, anyone?
Every frame with a human is a wasted frame to me.

Angels & Demons was about anti-matter, which is produced by a particle collider. People actually thought, though, that the Large Hadron Collider would destroy the planet with a black hole.
They're supposed to set off a Very Large hadron Collider in 2012. That's called "tempting fate."
And 140 terabytes of robots? Yes please.

Well, I've never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but personally, she's a bit too skinny for me...I can honestly say I never once thought about seeing Transformers because of her. I won't deny, being a redblooded male I did crack a smile when Bay gratuitously shot every curve of her, but still, it was an added bonus. If she was to be stepped on accidentally, I would have looked forward to the sequel just the same.

Yeah, really. Even though i kind of agree. I have been a Transfan for 25 years, and I wouldn't mind a movie that takes place entirely on Cybertron, no humans allowed. (OOOH, PREQUEL!!! PREQUEL!!!)

I've seen the 15 TB version in Amsterdam at a press event. It had to be the 15 TB version because they said before the movie began it's the digital version being streamed from several ILM servers. The quality is sickeningly amazing on a huge screen.
I don't think they'll show the digital version of ROTF anywhere in the Netherlands.
