An inside look at the "Alice" scene in Transformers: ROTF

Seibertron.com member Syphonn has informed us about an article on gizmodo.com that takes an interesting look at one of the most entertaining and talked about scenes from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

That scene is when the character known as Alice (played by actress Isabel Lucas) suddenly transforms from attractive young co-ed to evil Decepticon.

With all of the high-tech resources at Michael Bay's disposal one would think it would be simple enough, but would you believe that a two second shot from the scene took THREE MONTHS to complete?

View the incredible story here.

I'm sure someone will come in this thread and say.. "I would have given up some of the special effects to have abetter story"

Next thing ya know they say the movie didn't have enough spcial effects :?

That effect was especially creepy.. I wonder if a alice figure would ever come out..

Ultimately, in my opinion, it was three months on a scene that probably should have been cut from the script before it was even filmed.

When I saw the movie the second time, I couldn't help but think how that whole scene really doesn't affect squat for the rest of the movie (or really tie into much before that, honestly)

However, it was one of those scenes that just jumped off the screen, and one people won't forget.

I'm sure Bay thought that back when he was watching The Terminator.

I'm not sure who came up with the idea to put that in this movie, but the "pretender" concept has been one used in Transformers for a whopping 21 years.

Of course visually in this movie I can see why you would think that, though.

Terminator came out in 1984. Pretenders in '88.

Still, I would have no problem with Pretenders in a Transformer movie. In fact, the idea of Decepticons being able to look human is interesting enough to make its own sequel.

Sadly it's just another element tossed in and then tossed aside, all for throwing another hot babe in the film. The ramifications of such a technology should be huge. Instead we don't even get an explanation of how they can do it. I feel sorry for those who don't know about pretenders from G1 since they would have no clue what was going on.

I can't argue with what you are saying, I think it is something that could have been really cool. Had the Terminator movie not been out this year (especially with some of the plot points it had), maybe they would have done more, it's hard to say.

The thing with the Transformers universe is you could do twenty movies and still not have enough in there for some people (while this movie had waaay too much for many) It's sorta a no-win situation.

The scene was cool but it added nothing to the movie. It was one of the "thrown in" things. If you were to cut it out the movie wouldnt be effected. Bay should've waited for the 3rd movie to introduce pretenders. It could've been one of the main plots. Like ive been saying bay threw in to much in ROTF and this was one of those things.

As I mentioned before, the whole Pretender concept in this film served only two real purposes: 1) Provide some freaky eye candy for the adolescent and college males in the audience and 2) a cheap way to get Sam and co. out of the college and somewhere that Blackout copycat Grindor can grab them. A trip to the local park would have served a better purpose - with Sideways as Mikeala's rental.

I for one, enjoyed the idea of the pretneders being back, and it solved a question I had for one of y characters whom I wanted as a human avatar without the pretender shell.

And I;m not sure the scene should have been cut. If Grindor had simply dropped out of the sky and grabbed them after the drab setup, it would have been a shock. "Alice" gave us a buildup effect, and brought Leo into the group, not just Sam and Mikaela. I doubt if they had done a scene like the park that we'd have gotten Leo, who brought them to Simmons, and so on.

As I said, I saw the movie twice, the second time was the Monday after it opened with a much more mainstream audience. The crowd the second time absolutely freaked out when they saw all of that and unlike us, didn't have the spoilers to know it was coming.

While there are a lot of things I would do differently than Bay, Kurtzman and Orci did there is no doubt that they had 2 very different fanbases to please - us the rabid diehards and also the casual mainstream.

Without throwing in things for both, the movie would have done just a small fraction of what it has at the box office and there is just no denying that.

A shock yes, but interestingly more in style of "The Bay". In fact I'm surprised that wasn't what he did now that I think of it.

"Where the hell did Blackout come from, wasn't he dead?"

"Yeah he was but.....oh hell there's Megatron! Shut up and watch the movie!"

Sadly I would have liked to see more of this character developed.... you have this great factor, a jealous girlfriend who Sam needs to deal with and this other girl who he needs to deal with because she' obviously familular with the situation he's going through. It was a classic set up for a back stab. And you would have character development with all three and Leo......and instead I got a few minutes and BAY-SPLOSIONS!!!! There are so many opportunites where this film could have developed so much more......only to be overlooked and BAY-SPLODED. *Sigh*

A decent scene paired with a decent character. Still I did think though that Alice was just there for no reason whatsoever, on the other hand it was great to see the Pretenders used in Live action. I get the feeling that the Headmasters are next in line to be used in Live action though.

I've never seen pretenders in any of the series, they were before my time I guess, but I respect that they put a liked element into the movie. They just did it completely wrong. The only thing it helped with was it gave them a reason to be driving on the road so Grindor could get them. Otherwise, it seems unnessecary. It just adds complaints about similarities to terminator, and it increased the length.

These facts are amazing though. We sure have come far in animation.
