I don't understand the reluctance some folks have to owning multiple molds representing different bodies of the same character. By this logic one would only have Megatron or Galvatron (in most continuities, anyway).

It seems pretty obvious that the WFC/FOS continuity and the Prime continuity were only unified as an afterthought rather than from conception; I'm certain the games and novels were envisioned as being a precursor to the original G1 continuity and were shotgun-married into the Prime continuity as a marketing tactic.)

This is pretty awesome news. Though I'm not that broken up about no Bumblebee news thus far. Hasbro has been throwing figure after figure of him at us since movie1 toys hit the shelves. No offense to the character, but I think he and us need a break.

it's not like I don't have multiples of characters, but in this day and age, I gotta spend wisely.

Partially for the same reason as craggy, but also that's just how I set up my display. For space reasons as well.

If they're the same continuity, I only do the best version of each character. Though I do run into some issues with Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime because I love them both, so I end up having 1 or the other in alt mode. I also have 1 Galvatron & 1 Megatron because I just can't be without Galvy or Megs. But 2 Primes makes even less sense, so I either pass or move one to a different display.

I'm not crazy about the WFC Shockwave design, and had high hopes that we would see him in Generations as a new G1 character but so far it doesn't look that way. I'll pick him up, sure... but I'll prolly wait until it's on sale at retails. Kinda disappointed that there is a FOC Prime. Seems like a waste.

But who knows, maybe I'll see them and go collector crazy and buy them on sight and impulse. (This is really the most likely thing to happen)

E Shockblast will continue to serve as Classicverse Shockwave on my larger scale 'con shelf. I'll be picking up a couple of the new deluxe, one to hang with WfC/FoC/Prime toys and another for the smaller scale Classics 'cons. Depending on colouration one may get a lick of paint to differentiate them.

Everyone displays things differently. For instance, some people have a pre and post 86 movie display. I also have different scale displays. Still, I gotta make sure it looks good somewhere.

We had been told that the FoC figures were going to be part of Generations, so from that point on it was always unlikely we'd be getting a voyager Shockwave. It doesn't help that we don't have a HFTD/RTS style line that he could've been integrated into.

Definately skipping FoC Optimus. WFC is just better looking in my opinion.

As I previously stated, retcon ≠ initial conceptualization. If the game and novel had been conceptualized as taking place in the Prime continuity from the get-go there would have been a much number larger of commonalities in design and characteriuzation unless the creative professionals who developed them are completely incompetent; or do you have a better explanation for why almost all the characters in the games and Exodus look and behave much more like their G1 counterparts than their Prime counterparts?

(I'm not going to bother to look it up, but I'm pretty sure that development of the game was already well underway by the time Prime was conceived, so I doubt the game developers had most of that information at their disposal until relatively late in the development process.)

In any case, I digress, but you should remember that just because Hasbro's marketing department makes a decision it doesn't mean that it has to make any amount of creative sense nor does it mean the new "party line" was what a team of creators had in mind initially. After all, Cybertron was "in the same continuity" as Armada and Energon when this was never the intention when Galaxy Force was being done.

And as I previously stated, the Binder of Revelation came first, and everything else was derived from it. Hasbro laid the groundwork for this new continuity within this binder, and then used the information put into it to create WFC, Prime, and everything else.

If the game and novel had been conceptualized as taking place in the Prime continuity from the get-go there would have been a much number larger of commonalities in design and characteriuzation unless the creative professionals who developed them are completely incompetent; or do you have a better explanation for why almost all the characters in the games and Exodus look and behave much more like their G1 counterparts than their Prime counterparts?

Because Hasbro gave each group of creators enough leeway to do their own thing as long as they don't completely contradict one another.

I think a better question would be to to demand proof that the two are NOT in the same Aligned continuity family. Hasbro has said that all of their newly properties that aren't part of an existing one, going forward from WFC, are spawned from the same Aligned treatment Bible: The "Binder of Revelation". To place anything outside of that sphere, one is gonna have to provide evidence that cannot be explained and/or reconciled in any sort of fashion. The way Hasbro is going by this continuity is that, to them, "Continuity does not always mean a 100% connection rather a plan to avoid out right contradiction but we absolutly see most Hasbro Transformers projects connected to this modern continuity in the coming decade." And Hasbro, being the very craftsmen behind this aligned continuity, have the Word of God and final say about it all.

It was Hasbro intnet all along for Cybertron to occur after Energon, but Takara either didn't get the memo or didn't want to oblige and so created Galaxy Force to be its own reboot, only for them to turn around later and get on the bandwagon of making it also take place after Super Link.

Plus, Takara themselves also put several references to Armada/Micron Densetsu and Energon/Super link in Galaxy Force, such as:

*Snarkless translation: original authorial intent trumps canon (which can, of course, be changed at any time by whomever has "creative control" of a given franchise or property for whatever reason they see fit). That's why I originally said it was a joke that WFC and Prime are set in a unitary continuity. WFC was clearly much more strongly inspired by G1 than Prime, so it seems rather silly that Hasbro has insisted on making one follow the other historically.

You are of course technically correct as Hasbro presently defines "history" by edict but that doesn't make it less apparently an afterthought.
