Alt Hunt : Energon Wars (Discussion thread)

Yes i'm well aware of that. I'm also aware of how many times i've stated that the request was made but numerous factors prevented Glyph from setting it up. I'm tired of people harping on about it. People should be thankful that all those other numerous factors didn't prevent the alt hunt from being run at all because it very nearly wasn't.

Seconded.
These hunts are a simple game designed so that Glyph doesnt have to be involved. Sure, its a pain in the arse to look for your wins, but thats why its called 'Hunting' and not 'McDonalds'.
Between Burn and I we have a wealth of information and experience to share on how these work so if anyone else wants a go, all you need to do is drop us a PM.
And its about time the Autobots organised something! :0P

Great comic Burn. Excellently represents the frustration that I'm going through. My strafers will strafe a hunted alt to 3 or 4% and then stop strafing. Only so some schmuck to swoop in steal my kill. Grind my gears.
This is just uber frustrating.

Happens to me all the time as well QS. Heck, it's what I often yelled at Triggerhappy and War Hammer about all the time.
The Amigos would deploy, Freaks would do all the work while SF13 and Mayhems hid behind them long enough to peak their heads around and take the kill
Damn bastards.
Of course if anyone has ANY suggestions on how to reward the bot that does the most work as well as the bot who gets the kill, go for it. But all the ideas tossed around before have involved far too much work.

Start awarding Assists?
Oh wait. The permutations on the amount of damage necessary to be able to claim an assist just became mindboggeling....

Its not as bad as one might think, only the reading of the log and finding the damage, then damage done takes longer. Its much faster to just find a kill. Though with excell, I am sure I could manage an assist sheet of as sort, I just don't have that kind of time either. I would think that 40% damage or more could be labled as an assist. Just my thoughts.LuckytheWonderLlama wrote:Burn wrote:Of course if anyone has ANY suggestions on how to reward the bot that does the most work as well as the bot who gets the kill, go for it. I would go with 50 or 51% to get the assist. With 40% you have the chance of having to award two assists along with a kill that only had to do 10% or less.

Congrats to Redimus, and thanks to all who organized the alt-hunt.
My showing was abysmal this time around, but I'm optimistic I'll be able to do better next time.

Updated the story in my first post. Well, what story there was.
So ... feedback time.
Story - Don't worry about quality, I just want to know what people think about having a story line or not.
Alts -
• Too many targets? Not enough?
• Do people prefer a mix of targets (truck, weapon, air animal etc) or a set type of targets? (animals only etc)
Time - Two weeks too long, not long enough?
Lucky suggested adding a note when the hunt first starts for people to bookmark the thread so they don't lose track of things. I have nothing against that.
One other thing I was going to add in this time but due to not being around when it started I didn't get to do it, was to implement "bonus points". Basically if you take out a targetted alt with a targetted alt of your own, you get a bonus point extra. I'm hoping it would encourage people to pick up targetted alts and discourge people from dropping them when the hunt starts. Though i'm not sure if that's even an issue. Thoughts on the bonus points?
Any other feedback? Please, spare me the rantings about an automatic counter. We tried, crap hit the fan on the site, it didn't happen.

The beginning of the hunt coincided with my first weekend off in ages, I was very lucky in that sence, no idea if I'll be able to put up such a good showing nect time. Still gonna try. I missed the ton by 3 kills.

Here ya go, my tuppence...
Story - I like the idea of a story behind these, ive always thought if there is a tale behind any game then it adds to the fun. Remeber Sunstar's story when her entire team became targets for the Autobot City hunt? Little touches like that make it a bit more involving, athough obvoiusly not everyone has the time to do that.
Alts - The alt list was a bit big to remember to begin with, but once you got used to the targets it was a good amount; not too many to overwhealm you, but enough for it to be reasonably simple to find one. Shame about the tourney prizes huccup, but no one can be blamed for that, these things just happen.
I liked the cross section of alt types, it worked very well and meant my whole team got a kill instead of just the rammmers/avoiders etc.
Time EDIT - Two weeks was about right, it was a pretty big hunt, not sure if all of them should be 2 weeks though, varying the length may make it more interesting in future

Any other feedback? - A couple of ideas...
Possibly making it a bit more public for the non posters to be able to join in but there were reasons behind that for this edition.
Now we have core, common and rare alts and a rotation system that seems to be almost up and running, we could maybe work out a scoring system depending on the rarity of the prey and co-ordinate that with Glyph?
Maybe you support guys can help sort that out.
The bonus points idea is a great one, i resisted it in the past as counting scores the game takes a while no matter what method you use. In future hunts, id fully support that.
I also had an idea of a few 'golden' alts that are hidden randomly in the game by Glyph as a one off soecials and dissapear when they are found or recorded, kinda like finding treasure whilst on the hunt, but without a prize system it would be pretty meaningless. Figure its an idea for future.
---------------------------------
I really enjoyed this game, it was nice to be able to get involved in the hunting side fully, now i see how hard it is!
Props to Burn for choosing the Alts and getting the hunt set up and running, to -Soundwave- for the scoring and Phasewing for helping to ensure everyone get the targets right.
Cheers to you all , it was really good fun!
To everyone else; please be honest about the hunt, If you loved it, say so, but if somehting went wrong or you didnt like the way it went, please say too! Its the only way the guys n gals here will know how to set it right for next time...

Now I feel like a proud father...

Obviously I enjoyed it, I think dispite the prize alts flooding everywhere most of the time there were enough targets.
I'd be lieing if I said I really paid atention to the story, but it's always good to have one.
Im all for bonuses.
The lenght was fine (in fact i'd be happy for it to last a little longer, I enjoyed hunting through the logs and seeing what my team actully get up to, something I dont normally do).
