G1 Plastic/Metal variations

Postby It Is Him » Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:04 am

Hey gang

Does anyone have a preference towards metal or plastic parts? I'm assuming metal would be the obvious choice, but I was curious if plastic has any benefits as well?

I'm mostly thinking of getting a Hot Spot to make Defensor, and I wanted to make sure I buy the one that's right for me

Die cast metal is more of a nostalgia thing than a durability thing. The plastics used for a line like cybertron are heavy duty and will stand the test of time just as well as diecast.

I know many who prefer plastic because it takes colour better, wont chip as easily as metal etc etc. but die cast reminds me of my childhood, it just feels right.

I say diecast, for no other reason than that is how it was originally.

both metal and plastic have their strengths and weaknesses and in Hotspot's case, only his chest is metal. I'd say get the one that is in the best condition (plastic or metal) which isn't too overpriced.

No one can say how well the plastics of today will hold up twenty years from now.

I for one have had many variations of g1 toys and the best are the ones made in Japan. Metal chest will guarantee a Japanese made toy.

I like plastics more. Metal should only be used sparingly...

so important it had to be stated twice

Good advice all around. But I think I'll be on the lookout for metal. It just FEELS right.
