How do you store your collection?

Postby autobotprime » Tue Nov 20, 2007 3:29 pm

I am barely starting off my collection and i would like to know whats the best way to store them. I was thinking about putting them on some shelves on the wall or something.

Motto: "If you feel my lightning, you will never hear the thunder."
I mentioned this is in other threads on how I store my figures. I live in an apartment so I had to be particular on how and where I store them. I found 5-drawer organizers at Staples (each cost me $20 for a grand total of $40), which do not take up much space. The accessories are in ZipLoc bags with the figure's name on it. The instructions and paperwork are in plastic covers in a binder. So, my collection takes up about 10 cubic feet of space. There is no dust on them and they are stored in a closet so no light gets on them. My collection is not quite as big as some other members though.

Right now, my ~60 TF's are on a small bookshelf. It works great, except that the big guys (Leaders/Supremes) can't fit so they are propped against the wall or on my drawer beside my alarm clock. I still have to go through and inventory the accessories like I did with my Gundams though.

I think keeping them away from direct sunlight is another important thing. Whether or not they need to be kept in complete darkness is another story.

It would be cool to see other ppl's display, as I am on the way to either building or buying a display case for my collection as well.

I have a buddy that works at Home Depot and he was going to hook me up with some boards, problem is that Depot doesn't bevel glass and I definitely would like to have a two door glass window in the front.

Try some automotive glass installers some have tools for doing glass work other than cars.

Yeah, i would like to see some pictures as well. Wondering what would be the best route that can take up the least amount of room. Maybe a wooden bookshelf.

I have 'em all on a shelf facing away from a window so they don't get exposed to direct sunlight. One shelf is all that is needed at the moment, but I will need more soon

For voyager class and higher, i also collect the packages, so i would place figs back in their box and saran wrap the packages, after i've de-fingerprint and wiped the box to give it that minty shine. Then bubblewrap them and tetris all into large cardbox boxes. For loose deluxe and lower classes, i would do da same and package them in smaller boxes. Other than the movie line, the rest are still in storage. I've been moving around, and til now, i've just settled down. Come2think of it, i'm starting to miss silver Galvatron...

Cybertron still rocks.

I have nineteen or so on my computer desk if you don't count the Robot Heroes. Yes, it makes it crowded but I love them there. Most of them are my various Seekers.

I also have some on top of my gerbils' cage to help discourage my cats from jumping up there to "keep them company".

I have some around my room and some stored in a plastic box. I don't display them else where in my house to discourage my daughter from "borrowing" them. Don't feel bad for her though. She has some of her own!

I bought a Detolf display case from Ikea and keep my Transformers in there. I don't have many, so they all fit. I also hate dusting, so keeping my TFs out in the open is a big no-no.

Most of my very rare tf are in a locked wooden chest that weight over 80 pounds (full) so if someone try to steal it ..good luck! my 20th annivarsary prime, supreme SS,titanium series...... are in an IKEA detolf glass case,
my movie (2007) figures are simply put on some shelf and all that **** are in a locked room that nobody other than me had the key .

For the moment, inside their original boxes, wrapped in plastic bags, inside the large box which my television came in, inside my closet. That's just the G1s, incidentally.

This is because A) I smoke, and damned if I'm letting that crap get anywhere on or near my G1 TFs. Trying to quit fo so many reasons

and B) I don't have an airtight display case of any kind. Once I pick one up, I'll be using it.
