As high as the demand for G1 reissues are on ebay, in my opinion doses not translate into universal marketabilty. When the G1 reissues were released at Toy r us stores most of them were regulated to shelf warmers. The first wave had low production numbers so they increased for the following waves and the result was that more then half of all the reissues ended up in the clearance aisle marked down to 10 or 5 bucks.

Witch proves, to me at lease, that it would not be profitable for Hasbro/Takara to invest in your idea.If the G1 reissues werent all together profitable for them I cant see how new molds done in the G1 basic design frame will turn a profit.

It's so unprofitable that they still insist on reissuing G1 molds (Encore series, Sky Lynx) or even remold some G1 molds (Music Label Convoy). What are they thinking, eh? :)

Well I was pointing out that the G1 reissues werent very profitable in the U.S. market. But since you brought it up.

The japanese collecters market is a bit different then ours. The reissues do not have to be modified to fill current safty laws so their reissues are pretty much the same as the original releases....the only exception is the molds that were damaged.

And technically the Japanese release of Skylinx is not a reissue.takara never released that figure in Japan. This will be the first time that Japan will be getting that figure out side of getting it on the collectors market.

The Music Label molds are popular because of two reasons.

One is that they have the added feature of being able to download and play music and still retain the bassic look of the G1 molds.

The 2nd reason is because they made the right choise of choseing very popular characters to use as templates.

Do you thing people would spend the kind of money their asking if the Music Label TF's were made into new characters from new molds that were inspired by the molds of G1????

But those are reissues of old toys. They have nostalgia value to us old farts who had the originals as children. I doubt that many kids are rushing out to buy the Encore stuff.

And even as someone who has bought some reissues, I wouldn't be interesed in buying new toys made to those standards. A Devcon made to Classics standards? Yeah, I might buy that. A Devcon made to G1 standards? No thanks.

BOTH.
I don't like to do the whole "I speak for tha majority of fans" bit, but on this one I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're wrong. Hell, the present toy lines support it. Given the choice between posable, show accurate toys, and simplified bricks, people are buying the modern stuff and leaving the bricks to warm shelves.

Would you buy new G1 original molds?

Postby Repair Bay » Sat Nov 24, 2007 11:19 am

I would definitely buy new G1 molds. And yeah, I would like to see the 1986 Unciron released, though that's nigh impossible. I'm working on a repaint of Go-Bots Deluxe Psycho to be Arcee (along with a new Headmaster Daniel mold) so it retains a G1-ish style

Well, it might be fun to see some unused Diaclone toys released (if there are any) or some old prototypes made ..... if they exist after all this time. I'd probably pick up Unicron, if only for the humor value. Of course you have the choice of WHICH prototype Unicron to make.

In the end tho I'd rather they release Neocron than the two earlier attempts. As stated, he's just better. An entire line of throwbacks seems like overkill. While you're brining it up, I didn't like Head/power/target masters all that much.

Edit: oh, yeah, but would I buy one? Only if there's some sort of tie-in that made me care about the TFs they're selling. Otherwise, probably not.

Personally I think it's a great idea, although maybe not worth their while. Neo-nostalgia for me. While we're on it, I'm just about as sick as all F**K of people referring to 'G1' toys as 'bricks', Sideswipe is my all-time favourite despite my impeccable(ish) taste in later designs. A lot of us have a strong emotional attachment to our youth, the style had it's charm and we aren't all the same. Enough of the sweeping generalisations people!

Phew, I'm done.

Sideswipe was my first TF. As a result, to this day I still want to own a red Lamborghini Countach. However, the original Sideswipe toy is still a brick by modern standards.

By modern standards yes but 'G1' has turned out to be groundwork. I was venting again, I just find the brick label a bit disrespectful considering the fact that these 'bricks' are the reason a hobby was formed.

Edited for spelling (again).

I'm trying to think of a response other than "so what?" I don't really see how it's disrespectful to popint out that the G1 toys, fantastic and legendary as they are, are bricks by today's standards.

Don't remember that. Anyway, you want to nip this one in the bud? I'm not here to argue and I'm certainly not out to make enemies. It seemed to me that you came on a bit aggressive, that's all.

I think there is a market, but it's very, very small.
Nostlagia is a powerful feeling and I could see more than a few people buying a G1 Arcee brick, but not enough to justify a new mold unless it sold for a ridiculous amount of money.

Personally, if Hasbro were to spend money on new G1 molds, I'd rather they were improved, like Classics or the never ran 1/48 scale BT.

It's not an attack at it's style, it's a commentary on the lack of articulation.

To this day, G1 Prowl/Streak/Smokescreen remains one of my favourite designs, but the technology such as the bolted together legs, lack of knees and static head mean he can do little but stand as still as a brick.

It may not be the nicest way to describe them, but it's accurate and shorter than writing "bunch of figures with limited articulation that make for less physical playability and displaying".

I wouldn't buy them.
I would rather have more money/effot being put into the new Classics/Universe line. Or bring back Titaniums.
I would buy more reissues, however.

Whoa there, I never called you anything. No problem with you, I thought we were having a laugh. Sledge seemed over-aggressive to me and aggression will breed defensiveness. Also, self-importance and presumptuousness are not 'qualities' I possess. Peace, love and understanding folks! Incidentally, I've no problem with Sledge either, he just seemed off. Maybe I reacted wrong, I've had a truly awful week (nothing minor) and I could have been a bit highly-strung, apologies to anyone offended and I wish I never registered. I'm going back to lurking.
