G1 Energon Shockwave by Jin Saotome (old question answered)

Postby Jin Saotome » Sun Feb 19, 2006 9:58 pm

Hey! My friends at the Fwooshnet pointed me towards your site, and that you all had my Shockwave TF custom on the front page! This is my FIRST Transformers custom and I'm thrilled to see it's been very well recieved.

I used a basic Energon Shockblast, the gun accessory from a Microman Figure, a hose from the ML Apocalypse, and the shoulders/arms from an Energon Landmine I grabbed on clearance. As us Transformers fans know, you always pay homage to the G1 designs and I tried to do that here. You'll notice he has a 'grill' in his chest, the connecting hose (which swivels in all directions) on the gun, and the gun barrel itself that lends itself to the elongated look of the G1 design. I finished the 'gun mode' finally, and it suits my needs for a pistol version of him I suppose. I'm much more of a fan for the robot designs than the car/item modes, so my true love of Shockwave here lies in his humanoid form. Enjoy!

I admire your skills as a true A grade Kitbasher! I see it went for $152 US, that's awesome! It is truly a stunning bash!

No, not sure where the arm shield came from. I think a model kit of some type. I have so much stuff lying around from like 14 years worth of collecting pieces.

That is an excellent piece!

Nice choice for parts and great paint job - it all comes together so well!

Love the homage!

as was posted on AllSpark, still not keen on that gun arm design. would rather have this:

damnit... hosting an image like this? whatever. temporary.
or closer to G1, with the gun smaller if it's only going to start at his wrist.

Sorry, don't have any WIP pics. Ravage, that gun design you have there where the arm connects to the middle of the gun was my first idea. I was going to attach it the universal joint where the hose now connects, but the arm just seemed too short, also it didn't line up in any way shape or form for the gun mode.

Unless it had some sort of canal for the upper arm to slot into in weapon mode perhaps??

Wow, old thread!! The gun is from a Microman 'Hawk' accessory creature of some type. I couldn't read the name so the best I can say is it's a red and green hawk that comes apart and attaches to the 10" red Microman robot to make additional weapons. Now to start posting new stuff here... hehe.

Like what you've been doing with the new movie bots. Hadn't seen your older work, but looks like things started off really well.

A question if I may.

How easy (or difficult) is it to transplant the arms from Energon Landmine to Shockblast? I have both figures and would like to try this mod (as far as the arms anyways), but I'm afraid of ending up with 2 broken figures.

I notice on Shockblast that his shoulders click when you rotate them. Are those gears necessary for the Landmine arms?

For the landmine shoulders I kept his clicky-joint assembled and ditched shockwave's. Open up Shockwave and remove his shoulders completly. You'll saw off Landmine's shoulders right past his shoulder's clicky-joint so it leaves that intact on his arm. Carefully study my Shockwave pics and you can see where it is. Lightly sand the sections flat and superglue them to shockwave's torso.
