Why I love Energon.

I love this line, to me it was like classics before we even had that, and I am going to go over why I love this line on each reason.
First, the homage.
In Energon we got an updated Scorponok, someone who hadn’t been accurately represented in his G1 form since G1. We also got an Optimus Prime that was a flat nosed truck unlike in Armada and he was not a Fire truck nor a monkey or a flying Fire truck for that matter, why in my opinion, Energon Prime still remains closest to G1 prime out of all the different Primes and don’t forget nitpickers, this Prime had a cab. Yes, a cab, something Classics Prime didn’t have, something movie Prime didn’t have and something it doesn’t look like Animated Prime will have (but, I cant tell if he‘s meant to be a mac truck or a fire truck). We also got figures that were a homage some of the best and seemingly forgotten characters of G1, including Skids, Rodimus Prime, Inferno, Shokwave and best of all, Arcee. People act as if this is one of the worst scouts from this line, but I for one believe she is one of the best. Why, because she is the first toy of the famed and loved character from G1 no matter how you put it, that toy is pure awesomesauce for that reason alone.
Now for the second reason I love Energon, the gimmicks.
Yeah, that’s right I LOVED THE GIMMICKS!!! Cuz, they were fun gimmicks, all the deluxe and voyager sized Autobots could combine, and it was kind of fun! So much you could do with the different pairings of two bots. Then there was the other gimmick which was the Energon parts, now I know most of you probably think the Energon parts are unrealistic and such cause really, if giant alien shape shifting robots came hurdling down to earth they probably wouldn’t wave translucent weapons on top of that would they? Well who knows, but the Energon weapons are creative and something that has been in Transformers since it started. Plus, you could always just pile them together and have your G1 Decepticons mining their Energon to get back to Cybertron just like in G1! Just an example of all the different things you can do with Energon weapons, another thing I like about the Energon parts is that they don’t hinder the figure and instead add to it.
Next, grunts!
Energon worked the grunts into the story perfectly, in Energon the Omnicons and the Terrorcons were for the most part sentient as are all other Transformers except they all looked the same and were uniform. Just like people, we all have the same form for the most part and we all have unique personalities as do these Omnicons, so they had their own way of thinking while continuing to be grunts. And almost all of the scout class figures were grunts, therefore giving them a variety of forms which in my opinion added to them.
And for my general thoughts…
This line had many strong figures, gimmicks that were fun, and some real creativity thrown in it. After all of the good I speak and you still don’t like these toys for some weird reason, than I cant see what some people look for in Transformers. To me this remains the best Transformers series of them all and probably will for a long, long time.

Also the Galvatron (the second one painted purple not Megs) is still the best new figure of Galvatron yet, better than the upcoming Classics one IMO.

I'm still getting used to the fact that the 1986 movie takes place 3 years in the past now.

But it is true. The upcoming Universe figure is going to be too small.
Energon Galvatron is awesome in bot mode. I just wish he came with a sword he could hold without the tank piece. I had to modify some Cruelock weaponry to get Galvatron to wield a sword.

I'm hoping they make a Voyager Classics Galvatron that turns into a cannon.

Re: Why I love Energon.
For some reason I can't think of now I wrote off collecting when Armada came out and I remember it something to do with the actual toy line. Anyway, looking back on Armada, Energon and Cybertron makes me wish I had collected them. They have some great looking figures.

Energon and Cybertron yes, but Armada only had a few.

Re: Why I love Energon.
energon is what made me jump all over cybertron. i didnt collect at all during the energon line, mainly because by the mid to end of it, i was in afghanistan and i didnt even know they existed
. but cybertron looked so diverse and interesting, and after learning tha a lot of cybertron figures were repaints of energon, i went about trying to scoop up certain figures that i could find on ebay. still havent found an arcee, prime, or megs. but im still looking. i think energon is the perfect example of a toy line for kids, but having awesome characters and some pretty good bots.

Re: Why I love Energon.
Looking back, I'd say I liked the anime more than any other aspect of Energon -- but I'm specifically talking about the Superlink anime as the English dub was dubious at best. I'd say it's the best of the Japanese series, although I haven't seen Car Robots or Micron Legend.
There were some great figures in Energon but most of them now seem lacklustre compared to the Cybertron range. My favourites from Energon would be Hasbro Galvatron (Leader-class) and Dreadwing.

Re: Why I love Energon.
I'm glad to see Energon Megs/Galvy getting some love here. While they don't have the greatest articulation in bot mode ... they just ooze coolness, for me.
I mean, the weapon doesn't get anymore impractical or awesome. "Gee, I think I'll mount a sword onto a TANK and swing it around at people."
Ha! Whomever came up with that idea deserves a promotion. I got megs 1st, and loved him ... finally picked up galvy recently. OMFG!!! Pure awesome.
It's nice to see that hasbro can get the color schemes correct between these figures, sometimes.
As for the rest of the line, cripes. I don't enjoy it as much as Cybertron, but it sure is a close race.
Landmine/Landquake are epic IMHO. Cliffjumper is made of FAIL, though. WTF???
Mirage and Dreadwing. Wow! I wish the legs weren't the way they are, but still ... it would take much more to ruin that mold for me.
Those are some of my favorites, anyway.

Nothing but love for energon galvy for me, next to my Takara galvatron reissue from a few years back , he is my main incarnation of Galvatron on display. he looks awesome next to titanium Rodimus and Scourge.

It never was really said for Energon, but Superlink was a moage to G1 commerating 2- years of TF's. It's printed on Superlink toys boxes.
Most of Energon was G1 inpired, or had a strnage take on things, like no one noticed the Landmine homage to Huffer (G1) in retrospect to color.
You got Megs almost looking like G1 Megs, Prime, Starscream, Downshift/Wheeljack, Rodimus, Battle Ravage, Beachcomber, and my favorite Inferno, all were G1 inspired.

Re: Why I love Energon.
Galvatron really was the high point of that line, the only flaw is a sword without a handle. I personally liked that they brought back gestalts in full force, it's something that I wish they would have expanded on.

That was a little lame, i fixed mine though with a add ball piece from zoid parts and superglue.

What i hate about energon prime is his fat belah, and the arms that just hang there on the back in robot mode...
Also, a lot of the toys lack articulation. And the minicon ports lok like tumors.

Re: Why I love Energon.
I love Energon too, mostly because it was out when I first started officially collecting Transformers, and I collected a good majority of it when it was out. I also found a lot of figures for cheap after it was finished, and because of that my goal is to someday get every mold in the series, save for the mini-Prime/Megatron, and maybe Grimlock/Swoop because they're supposed to be expensive.
The deluxe Autobots are indeed fun. Does powerlinking limit posability? Unfortunately yes, but is is a blast to combine them over and over again? Sure it is
.
The basics are also really great, every single one of them, and all look cool in both modes, at least in my opinion.
Energon brought back combiners(of which I only have a few parts of), and that is a pretty big thing. It also had Omega Supreme as a cool Headmaster.
Starscream is just plain awsome. His role in the show was a bit lackyish and he didn't get much screentime, but fit that Universe's character perfectly.

Sadly, we haven’t gotten any new combiners since excluding Classics Devastator, Cybertron didn’t give us a gestalt, the movie didn’t give us a gestalt and it doesn’t look like animated will either. There is Universe coming up, but I’ve never seen any confirmation as to if Onslaught will combine.
Sigh, what does Hasbro have against gestalts anyway?

I can imagine that they're probably the hardest to design, with the possible exception of triple changers. Plus, I don't think parents or kids like to buy them because it's either $40 on a complete gestalt or $40 on Optimus or Megatron. And we all know what the parents/kids will pick...
Two big things going against them but I'd love nothing more than to see more of them. They're just so damn cool...
