"Bruticus" is what I expected after Onslaught being released. Most definately a pass for me. The legends look great thoguh. I can't wait for those!

Bruticus' hands look terrible but I do like Legends Brawn and Beachcomber. Legends Megatron not so much. Below those figures is that a picture of a blue pokemon golf ball.

I wonder if they will add better hands? It seems like a small step to take to get fans to re-buy the mold.

It kinda looks like the Transmetal drive from Beast Wars, but I could be wrong.

Seems like any combiners will ever see in the Universe/Classics line will be Energon repaints.
Beachcomber and Brawn looks good. Unfortunately, Brawn robot mode is very G1-esque. Solid arms with no bending elbows. Legs that can only swing in one axis.
I'm hoping Beachboy will be better.

Well, Brawn and Beachcomber are Legends figures, which all happen to have the same solid-arms and maybe 4 points of articulation.
I just hope Hasbro does what they did with Hound, we got a Legends figure, and now we're getting a deluxe figure.
Deluxe Brawn would be awesome.

Yup. Hasbro has already said there will be no combiners in Classics until they can get the new ones perfect. Don’t expect them any time soon.

Until they get the new ones perfect? By new I assume they mean the Energon ones.
So this makes me wonder just what they're actually doing to make them perfect.

By the New they mean new Molds. They said they needed time to think about how to make a good combining robot. And until they could perfect the gimmick they would not make any new ones.
I guess by "perfect" they mean how to get all the parts (like hands and feet) inside the smaller robots, so you don't need any extra accessories, that Hasbro seems to be doing away with recently.
Which is why we get Energon repaints for now.
However I still don't understand why every one thinks they are crappy. I mean yes they could have been better, but they are quite nice for what they are. They are even quite poseable. They are scramble city style. meaning any small robot can be a limb for any larger one. Like the Originals where.
Yes the repainted limbs are annoying, but by no means do they make the robots crap
And to those that say if "Guys in their rooms can construct combiners why can't Hasbro?" , you clearly haven't bought any of them, they end up being parts-formers, and when in individual robot modes, you have extra arms, and legs and extra stuff used to build the larger robot just lying around, that don't actually fit into anything. I'm not saying the job of customizers is bad, its a great job and feat of ingenuity to get these things to combine.
But if Hasbro put something like that out, then we would all be complaining about why all the parts aren't built into the smaller robots, but instead we have these robot parts lying around.

Also, guys in bedrooms don't have to worry about producing something that can be mass-produced and sold at a profit.
Personally, I'm happy to wait for Hasbro to figure out how best to do a combiner. Something where the individual bots don't suffer, the gestalt is posable and solid, and there are no extra bits left spare in any mode.

I agree. If and when Hasbro flatters fans by giving us one very good combiner fans will completely forget about these and all will be saying:
"OMG, these are amazing. I'm glad Hasbro waited so long to get these right!

not wanting to be sacraligous or anything, but its not that hard to make a combiner with all the parts built in, specaillya s it was done back in the 80's (here come the sacrilage) with the Gobots:
http://www.tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Pu ... uzzler.htm

and i believe R.I.D. railracer had head, hands and feet built in!

You do realise that any of the three robots making up Rapid Run probably have more articulation than Puzzler and his components put together? It ain't just about making a combiner with no kibble, it's about making the perfect combiner.

i never claimed puzzler was perfect, just that it aint hard to have 'no kibble'and to be hinest, puzzler would only need half a dozen points of articluation adding to it, the bots that make him up, that again wouldnt be rocket science!

Re: Universe Combaticons and Legend Brawn/Beachcomber....
But, Hasbro apparently is trying to come up with a combiner that looks good no matter how you display it.
This requires several things that would really be a engineering feat.
Good articulation
Looks good in robot mode
Looks good in Vehicle mode
Transformation that isn't incredibly complicated
Combiner parts are a part of the individual robot
No kibble
No it isn't rocket science. But the engineering involved in trying to combine all of those and make it work and worth mass producing. It's damned close.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get across. Doing a gestalt with the hands etc stored in the component robots isn't difficult. Doing all the other stuff as well is the trick.

and i think they did a pretty damn good job with Railracer:

they have the engineering know-how, they just choose to make more money out of existing molds!

Rail Racer is great, but he's not perfect. For example, Midnight Express gets stuck with Rail Racer's legs looking ridiculous on a figure of his size.

If anyone could design a combiner capable of doing all of that, it would be Hasbro and Takara.
Why they haven't is beyond me. They've had years to get it right.

IMO, I think they are putting their 'making a New and Perfect combiner' time into the TF:ROTF Devastator.
