What about a tournament?

Meeting place for the Autobot faction.

What about a tournament?

Posted by Sharpwing Sat Oct 18, 2008 7:50 am

So... I received this pm from Burn.

Burn, you say? :o

Yes, Burn.

He actually had this pretty good idea (IMHO), even more so light of recent events.

Burn wrote:Any chance you could round up some Autobot players and have them organise a tournament for everyone?

The first step would be to see if any one can come up with something new, something different.

Heck it can be an alt hunt even.

Just toss the idea out there, but put emphasis on the fact that they (EDIT: Burn means us Autobots) NEED to do this to bring credibility to the faction.

Because let's face it, the 'Con faction, wait no, I take that back, it's not the 'Con faction, it's the RDD that have essentially taken over the forums. And from what i've seen they seem hell bent on driving anyone that isn't part of their little club off the forums.

So it's time to fight back and bring some balance back to not only the game, but the forums.

(And yes i'll help if I can)

So how about it?

Who wants to pitch in and help me (and Burn) come up with a worthy tournament and them run it?

I think it's a great idea for us Autobots (ALL of us; ASF, AWC and non-subfaction) to show what we are worth in this game.

Screw the rankings, screw the RDD...

Let's show them what we're capable of!

I was thinking something like a scavenger hunt like JP did awhile before the reset would be good, but we'd need to come up with somthing new for it and not just use what he did before.

It's unique, it's not the same ole, same ole, and if you sort it out right it's challenging to get done.

I say we have NOTHING to prove to them.

They're essentially bloated windbags with unquashable egos.

The RDD wanna claim territory? Fine with me.

I agree sharpy we as a faction should brain storm and get something worked up. Alt hunts , scavenger hunts and scalp hunts always worked well. Autobot only tourny would be a good idea as well.

As a veteran player I'd like to see if we still have what it takes and also if I still have what it takes... besides tournaments are fun.

And would you please change your teamname? Seriously what are you trying to accomplish?

I like your ideas. Now, would you care to explain what a Scavenger Hunt means?

I think when JP held that one I wasn't really active, so I'm kind of in the dark here.

Any ideas on how to bring our own spin to it?

Snoball wrote:Autobot only tourny would be a good idea as well.

Maybe we should save this for another time. I'm in this with Burn, so we should have all factions involved... mare sure this tournament is going to mean something and that it gets the forum active and brewing with live.

But this is all good feedback so far (well, most of it anyway), so keep it going! :)

Basically he'd devised it out so there were 5 or 6 commanders or locations the factions were trying to take. In order to get them you would have to do a series of tasks for each and the factions that got the most done claimed that territory or allegiance.

Like Stasis locking 5 of one type of alt mode, or participating in a mission with a certain alt mode, Or having to lock 3 different types of alt modes, or performing a strafe or ram, or being the only survivor in a mission.

There were a lot of options. And not all of them ended up being easy. BUT, it was fun and it was a great challenge.

I haven't participated in tournaments before, so I have no idea what a new one should be like. But here's my idea. Basically, you nominate a member of your team to be your representative and once a fellow participant stasis locks your representative then you've been eliminated - which means you can't win the tourney or knock any other participants out. I reckon a reward of 20,000 energon for the winner would be a good prize - but I don't know whether that would have to come out of our reserves or if Mkall/OS would supply it

I always like JPs tournament set up. Made it a bit more challenging to get everything done and it is easy to participate. Just have to keep up on the lists. We just have to make sure we put our mark on it and not just rip it off from JP because you know we would get accused of that. What we could do instead of choosing a side like JP set up, is to make four different lists for the four different factions. Make each with three sections for the three enemy factions you have to go up against. Have each section have ten to fifteen objectives. That would give each faction list with 30 to 45 objectives.

I honestly don't think the RDD is trying to fun things or the forums. I think they have always been the most vocal. I have been coordinating with Sustain and Psychout for the Altigon/Kaon battles on the boards. We are trying to help get the Autobot and Maximal participation on the boards up. We figured that this would be a great way to do it. We are also getting ashe5k involved with his team as well.

A tournament sounds great. I was just talking to Galvatron Supreme about one. If you want to work with someone on the Con side he is a good guy to turn to. Try not to pay attention to his RDD tag. His attitude is far from one of them.

I'm willing to help any way I can.

I like this idea (haven't heard anything like it before)

However, this tournament is going to be faction vs. faction, so there's no personal glory... you fight for your faction.

I do think your idea has merit though, it could prove to be fun another time.

Care to elaborate on this? It's very interesting.

IMHO, this is the direction we should take.

Also getting the Maximals and Predacons involved is pretty important, it's not just a Bot vs. Con thing.

What JP came up with was basically an elaborate scavenger hunt. He had two sides you could join. Each side had something like five sectors. Each sector had ten objectives to it. The goal for you was to collect as many objectives on the list. The list was then compiled from everyone on that side (each side tried to have the same number). Each sector's objectives were counted. The side with the most total objectives in that sector, capture that sector. The side with the most captured sectors wins. In the event of a tie, the most objectives wins.

I think we can alter it a bit to fit to having 15 objectives for each of the factions.

I think we should all try to come up with some cool and worthy objectives.

I'm kinda drawing a blank atm... but I'm thinking.

Well there's always the wipe out 1 tank, 1 plane and 1 car objective.
Be the sole survivor in a mission.
Get the first kill in a mission.
Wipe out the same character 3 times in different missions.
Stasis lock someone using one fo your bots tactics.
Stasis lock someone using a weapon.
Stasis lock someone using only your fists.
Stasis lock a cassette.
Stasis lock a blaster or soundwave alt.

There's what I could come up with off the bat.

Maybe as one of the objectives you could send factions on a hunt to eliminate 1-3 named "canon" characters from each of the other factions? Like kill Ratchet from the 'bots, Waspinator from the Preds, etc. Although you might need to figure out a list of canon character names and make sure that name is with the right faction. I think I saw that Bumblebee was a 'Con the other day.

Or have them try to stasis lock x number of characters who have a name starting with a certain letter of the alphabet. (Preferably more common letters = higher kill quota, less common letters = lower quantity.)

Response from Burn: (remember he's very, very straight to the point :P )

Burn wrote:First things first, EP's idea in the bin.

Tired of JP and his cronies trying to force their vision for a HMW backstory down everyone's throats, and even just using a tournament idea that he came up with would just feed their egos.

Ash's idea is your standard hunt style of tournament and is actually similar to my old Project B.A.R.T. where each week i'd assign tasks and pay people for completing them. It's probably the sort of thing best run for individual factions.

HOWEVER

Psychout and I have been putting a plan together to take something like that global and it all hinges on whether the Mods will be willing to reward energon.

BACK ON TRACK

I like BlackDiamond's second idea, but to add a twist to it.

"Today's HMW Carnage is brought to you by the letter C"

Basically one letter a day. 26 days long, so possibly even reduce it to 2 letters a day (that'd be best in the case of Q&R).

In fact, i'm really liking that idea!

One thing I wanted to suggest, any tournament that requires counting faction victories

COUNT EMPTY/OUTNUMBERED MISSIONS

Nothing shits me more than these pansy arsed "Opposing side must be at least half full" crap. It's a **** war, sides are NOT meant to be evenly matched!

I'm also very much likings this idea.

It's taking the stuff Burn and Psychout came up with and combining it with our vision of a Scavenger Hunt (see BlackDiamond's post).

Now I guess it's a waiting game, seeing as Burn and Psychout are probably still working out stuff and waiting for a Mod response.

I'll keep you guys updated :)

I'm not one of JP cronies. There was not going to be some sort of elaborate back story to it pertaining to HMW. I was only modifying his idea to fit factions. It was nothing more than an elaborate scavenger hunt.

I don't think Burn meant to say you were one of JP's cronies, EP.

I think he just means that he doesn't want a tournament that has anything to do with JP's ideas.
