So a few months back, I ordered a set of long smokestacks for my MP Prime. They arrived, and I was excited, until I realised I didn't have a screwdriver small enough to remove the last screw from Prime's shoulder. So they sat dormant, until about two days ago. Screwdriver in hand, I began my task. First one shoulder, flawless, then the other. But as I was attaching the second stack, something unforeseen happened. Yep, you guessed it, the chrome from the new stack just started flaking off onto my fingers! Now I don't know what to do. Should I waste the money ordering yet another set of smokestacks and pray that one of them doesn't flake? Is there some sort of paint/marker that I could use as a coverup?

If there was I think we'd have seen a lot of chrome used in kitbashes. If you play with your TFs it would have worn off anyway.

You can rechrome them, but it would be expensive.

1. Soak stacks in Purple Power to remove chrome.

2. Prime parts in dark grey auto primer. Dupli- Color works best!

3. Paint parts in an enamel semi-gloss black. Brand of paint does'nt matter as long as it's ENAMEL. Let dry for 24 hours

4. Paint parts in Alclad Chrome and let dry.

It's not a vacuum metal finish, but it will look incredibly good and if done right will have a mirror-like finish. I say the process is expensive because of the materials you have to buy. The Alclad alone costs about $9 for a bottle that holds about as much paint as a Tamiya bottle.

You might be better off just living with the chipped chrome.
