25th Anniversary Optimus Prime out of Box

Postby 0ptimus__Prime » Sun Sep 28, 2008 11:08 am

Thanks to TFClub for images of the 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime action figure set out of the box. See the figure, trailer, DVD, comic and more up-close. Personally, I am pretty disappointed with this set. For a 25th Anniversary set that was said to made after the first release, they missed a lot of important stuff. Read More

First of all, they chopped the smoke stacks. Hasbro you gave us tall stacks with the movie toys? Can't we get a little Viagra for Prime on his 25th b-day? Another big dissapointment is the trailer. Why did they leave out the metallic fill? Its just dull grey and looks rather strange in my view.

Next on to the roller, gun, fists and missiles. Where's the grey roller? Where are the silver missiles. I want the bloated gun and fists too. Why even say this is a homage to the 1st release when it does not include the simplar pack-in in accessories?
Finally, they throw in a comic reprint of one of my favorite comic covers. Also you get the DVD and the talking belt clip on thingy that looks pretty sweet. I cannot wait to hear Cullen speak.

I think it looks rather good, just those smoke stacks seem to be the shortest on any Prime.

This is really awesome, a great package. But since I already have Encore 01 Optimus Prime I'm not planning on buying it, but I would definitely like to have it. Gotta think better about it...

BTW, since Takara Tomy is also releasing their Universe versions, is there any word about them also releasing this package? But maybe the book would be in japanese...

the smokestacks look horrible, I'd rather pay that money and more for a non-gimpy one.

Short Smokestacks = not interested. I'll stick with my Takara Encore version.

1. I still don't understand the shortened smokestacks. They're fastened in right? And I mean, wouldn't you want them LONGER so they would have a harder time swallowing the thing? Or if it did get lodged, you might find it easier to grab a longer item as it would be sticking up farther?

2. I was really hoping they would use the remolded head from the IPod dock Prime.

3. Guess I'll be staying G1 figureless.

I'm probably going to get it, but I wish they could release the heightened smokestacks in the US. They just seem out of place on the figure.

I don't think so, I think that's the text written on the original book. And since it's to be the same book, they've kept it. That's what I think, though.

I agree with the previous post.
I like all the extra's, but the short smokestacks
and the not-use of the IPOD head is a bit of a letdown.

If they included that + another matrix like the previous New
Year edition or Anniversary (the one with the blue coloured
windows) then I would get it for sure.

And I allready have that one whith the big takara gun version
and action masters optimus.

But I might get this one as well, I would really like the
Ipod head though :)

Even though I have loads of Primes already, I'll get this just on GP alone. That and the fact that it has the reprint of the original 1st Marvel comic (which I also have the original of). Funny thing about the Marvel comic series is that the last issue says "Issue 80 of a Four Part series" at the top.
Overall, despite the short stacks issue, I think this would make a great piece for the serious collectors but from what I can tell from the feedback so far, I don't think the general public is going to be inclined to snatch this one up. Great idea but definitely not a money maker for Takara or Hasbro.
A 2 figure gift box with G1 Prime and Classics Prime with G1 Trailer AND an updated trailer and "Roller" for Classics Prime along with all of the other goodies would fly off the shelves a whole lot faster even though the price tag would be higher.

I never realized just how much "character"? there was in the long smokestacks. I guess I'm just really used to looking at my Encore/Takara Prime, but seeing him with the short stacks just looks so wrong.

Movie Voyager Prime has long stacks, I can't see why they couldn't put the proper stacks on this one too.

Not sure if it's just the pics/lighting, but I like the shade of blue.

Like most other people have been saying, the short smoke stacks kill it for me. I may pick him up at a later date if the price drops.

yeah I wouldn't let the smokestacks stop me if I saw it on clearance or something, it's a must buy at that point. But for the price they're asking for it you might as well just get the Encore G1 Prime.

I would think an anniversary edition would look "exactly" like he did 25 years ago.

Malikon brought up a good point about Movie Voyager Prime. I glanced over at my First Strike Prime as I was reading his post and while it has long stacks it also dawned on me that the plastic used for those parts is far more pliable than what was used on G1 Primes stacks. Far less chance of breaking and no risk of sharp edges or points if it does break.
Probably not so much of a "safety for the consumer" issue as a "protect against frivolous lawsuit by a complete dumbass" issue.
It sucks that a lack of basic common sense has ruined things for the rest of us but unfortunately we are stuck with it.
I still wouldn't mind getting the figure regardless but I would rather see my aforementioned option as the 25th Ann. release.
