Sneak Peek at Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Plus Over 25 Minutes of Bonus Materials from the Original Film to be Made Available For DVD and Blu-ray Consumers on June 16 at Retail Nationwide

HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. – In anticipation of the eagerly-awaited June 24 theatrical premiere of DreamWorks Pictures’ and Paramount Pictures’ action-packed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Paramount Home Entertainment will offer consumers who purchase TRANSFORMERS on Blu-ray or DVD access to an exclusive sneak peek at the highly-anticipated sequel featuring Sam (Shia LaBeouf) and Mikaela (Megan Fox) as they desperately attempt to escape the Decepticons. Beginning on June 16, 2009, fans who purchase a new TRANSFORMERS DVD or Blu-ray disc at retail nationwide can augment their experience with access to compelling bonus content. Made available on a secure micro-site through an access code from the back of the Exclusive Sneak Peek sticker on the DVD package or via BD-Live, the footage includes two additional sneak peeks at the new film and over 25 minutes of bonus materials from the original film including never-before-seen deleted scenes, Megan Fox’s audition tapes and more.

Great! Only thing is is that nearly every person in the world has already purchased the DVD and/or Blu-ray releases of the the first movie a long time ago.

So basically we're just now getting content that should have been on the DVD/ Blu-Ray since day one? Awesome... I'll get access to the stuff one way or another, not buying another copy of the movie though.

I believe that is what this press release is stating -- that anyone who owns the blu-ray will have this new content available, via BD-Live, on June 16th. I don't think anyone has to go buy a new copy of the disc. Just access the BD-Live feature on your current copy next Tuesday, and you should be taken to this new content.

It does appear, however that DVD owners will need to purchase a new copy to get the access code to the "micro-site" that will present the content.

Just one of the many benefits Blu-ray has over DVD -- if a certain Blu-ray disc has BD-Live capabilities, there should never, EVER, be a reason to have to buy another copy of the film (because of new special features that is), as any special features made available after the disc's release can simply be added to the BD-Live content online.

It is not clear on the above press release if current Blu-Ray owners will have access or not. They will. This is a clearer description from www.blu-ray.com:

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that on June 16th, they will make new content available for owners of the 'Transformers' Blu-ray via the BD-Live network. The content will also be available to DVD owners, but only by purchasing new, special marked packages with an access code for the Transformer's micro-site.
