Magnus ... I mean I want an official Earth mode magnus. And he won't replace City Commander for me, anyway.
Did ... did they really think giving him that big butt would be alright? Maybe it's not as bad in person. If they're gonna remold, why not remold the fists so they could store in the arms in vehicle mode. Man, some of these deigns are stellar while others just baffle me.
1. The bumper is better when slid up.
2. Because that would conflict with the arm ports the armor panels plug into, and if they shrunk the fists to get around that he'd have really tiny hands.
Not that I particularly like it, it's the same problem the DNA "upgrade" kit for SIEGE Magnus has but even moreso.
o.supreme wrote:As with the first wave, looks like the only one I'll be getting is the Fossilizer Ractonite, he looks amazing. The Original Series toys look great, but just not in my range of collecting, as for the Beasts, Airrazor looks good. But what's the deal with the Dinosaurs? It looks like they are trying so hard, but Leader Megs and now Dinobot just have this "derpy" look to them... Lastly...Magnus not having an earth mode trailer=FAIL.
1. What exactly is "derpy" about them? I think in Dinobot's case the exposed robot hips beat the "chest tumor" legs from the original.
2a. First of all...

With the RiD-based trailer, the SIEGE Ultra Magnus mold actually has a
more earth mode-looking trailer than the G1 toy did.

Let's face it, the Powered Convoy trailer (while thoroughly awesome) does
not look like a realistic earthly car carrier - it's a sci-fi vehicle more akin to the non-"Real and Robo" Diaclone toys.
2b. I'm guessing that by "earth mode" you really mean "G1 toy and cartoon", and they actually did change it to be closer to that as best they could.

You can clearly see representations of the G1 trailer's support pillars. It's just that the RiD-based scaffolding was retained in between for structural stability and reduced partsforming.

How is that trailer not an earth mode trailer?.
Poor choice of words on my part. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but it looks exactly like the Siege Trailer, in that, you cannot place any vehicles in/on it, that's where it fails for me.
In it, no. On it? Yes. Plenty of surface area up top to sit 2 Deluxe Autobot cars. So, exactly the same as the Combiner Wars toy, 2 less than MP-22 and the G1 toy, and 2 more than City Commander.

I like how everyone is really into Huffer. He looks great. It's really the first time ever that we've gotten a proper Huffer. Like ever. They finally did him right after several poor attempts and now everyone's rightfully like "wow, he looks great!".
Kudos to Hasbro and Takara Tomy for finally doing Huffer right. Can't wait to see the inevitable Pipes get the same proper treatment. Hope they can get the cab right for Pipes in robot mode.
Yeah. Prior to this the closest thing we got to a halfway decent new Huffer toy was the Timelines one..
This, is really good. I look forward to it.
Seibertron wrote:Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the raptor hands on Dinobot look "off" to put it politely. Is it too late to remold the hands? The artwork got it right, but the toy itself looks like he's got broken wrists or something with his hands hanging oddly and not very threatening.
It kinda makes him look like a reptavian praying mantis.
It would be nice if he was retooled to have new dino hands with a hinge for the fingers, but I wouldnt bet on it... What I
would bet on is the 90-degree droop being necessary for transformation clearance.
Rodimus Prime wrote:And Sabrblade, I agree that Magnus's cab looks very plain up front and a red bumper would not only be accurate but would liven it up a bit. If I had my way, he'd have a huge chrome grille guard on there, even if it wasn't accurate.
I think just more paint detail in general would help a hell of a lot. My personal preference would be a silver or chrome bumper. Not cartoon accurate, no, but it would match the G1 toy and be a bit more real.
Overcracker wrote:After careful study of the images, I will concede you are indeed correct.
The pylons are there, but given the new position of the trailer no longer peg into the back of the trailer, which leaves that area open.
The hinge I mistakenly thought was missing is still there, but has been made to look like there is no hinge from the side though the pin can still be seen from the top barely and this panel now has the slots for the side clip to go into.
The pylons appear to still clip onto the same tab between the inner robot ankles which makes it impossible for them to reach the clips on the back now since the trailer is now moved further back. This leaves that empty space there I was seeing.
Basically the red part that clips into the inner robot's spine now only tabs onto the retooled side panels.
The rear panels have been retooled yes to make them look more G1.
I still contest the panel that flips onto the armored chest piece is not correctly tabbed into the back of the trailer however in the actual figure pictures, no way to tell on the image of the back of the box however due to the angle. The panel should still be flat, not angled down and then up.
Hm..

Looking at this photo (which gives a better view of the panel in truck mode), I think it pretty much has to be correctly flat and tabbed-in in the back-of-box photo; if it wasn't, we'd be seeing the smaller red panel. Comparing to the SIEGE figure, I think the angles you're seeing are part of the new chestplate itself.
Overcracker wrote:Not sure the end result accomplished much other than just exposing the robot fists more.
Does not manage to look in any way better.
I may just get it to play around with the original Seige / Netflix trailer on this Magnus and see what looks better.
Yeah, I wouldn't say it looks better. All it does is give him an even worse version of the problem the DNA leg-lengthers inflict. So, I am fine sticking with the SIEGE version. The G1 trailer pillars and G1 cab front aren't enough to win me over on a double-dip.
Honestly, I don't think we'll see Ultra Magnus truly improved past what we've got until they deign to give him a Commander-class toy. Or somebody makes a 3P trailer that effectively does that for the WFC inner robot.
Jelze Bunnycat wrote:Dinobot's raptor hands... I guess they're based on their supposed position when in mid-sprint, folded like a bird's wings, plus they fold up perfectly for the back. The rest ugh... Why do they make all theropods with child-birthing hips? First PotP Grimlock, then ER Snapdragon and now him.
Because of the thing that all three of those characters have in common: Their beast mode legs are their robot mode arms. That horizontal protrusion is the price paid for increased outward movement.
On that note, you should have said "First
MP Grimlock"

IMO the protrusion doesn't look too bad in Dinobot's case, especially with the panels to blend them with the dino body. The larger-than-life photos make the protrusion bigger than it will in-hand.
