The answer is simple: Megatron wanted power, the power to do evil. Prime believes in the fact that "freedom belongs to all sentient beings."
They may have been brothers in the sense that Obi Wan and Anakin were 'brothers.'
You see what I mean?
what is up with the ending!!!

I think that is the biggest plot hole cause when Megatron arrived on Earth there were no machines. So how do the autobots and humans figured that one out????
No, he didn't want to do that all along. He merely followed the cube to Earth and was trapped. Upon waking up, he wanted to use Earth's machines.
I think.

I'm pretty sure that in cryostasis, Megatron heard a lot about the technology that was developed off the Cube's energy and technology.
After all, I think that's why he screamed "I AM MEGATRON!!" upon waking up, letting them know he's not NBE 1.
And perhaps the Autobots knew what Megatron was capable of since he practically destroyed Cybertron.
Just some ideas....

I always thought the quote was a metaphorical one myself, and I like it that way. Megatraon may have a love of war and domination, but he is still a fellow cybertronian and Optimus accepts that even though it is unfortunate.
Having them literally be brothers is interesting, but a storyline that has already been done before in numerous other tv shows, movies, anime, etc. Give me a really awesome twist with this and I can be satisfied.
And are we seriously accepting as fact some snippet that was said in a Wal-mart colouring book? I agree with what some people have mentioned earlier: The writers could not come up with any good ideas on their own and invented this to create some sort of forced conflict. Or maybe they just didn't care to put much thought into this. Either way, it's quite unfortunate.

Kurtzman and Orci are screenwriters first and real writers second. Their job is pound out stories that are built or constructed according to preset standards. They are very good at this aspect, most of the time.
Too bad that aspect sucks. I could come up with a better story for transformers 2 then what'll actually happen. Give me some time to think about it, and I'll post it, and then we'll see what's what in 2009. It won't be a full script, just a few paragraphs.
The walmart coloring book is being accepted because whatever story is in it would have been taken from some form of the story that made it to the movie.
