Hey Wingdarkness!!! You are not alone. I just saw the film last night with my girlfriend. It was my first chance to see it and I purposely avoided any reviews/spoilers/conversations so nothing would taint my opinion of the movie. I loved the first movie. It wasn't perfect but it was a GREAT revisiting of the G1 show I grew up with and loved. Fantastic action sequences, comedy scenes that were funny, and all the Autobots were properly heroic and Decepticons predictably naughty. I went to one of the best movie theaters in Los Angeles with digital projection and THX sound. Sat center balcony so I could take in the enormity of what I was about to see. There were about 30 people in the theater which is to say, it was practically empty. But I figured it was a Sunday night and the movie has been out for 3 weeks so maybe that was why.
To my dismay, Mr. Ebert was right.
And you are right wingdarkness.
And begging everyone's pardon, it is not a matter of opinion. An opinion is saying I like Oranges and you like Apples. That's fine. Not everyone likes the same kind of movies.
But movies are stories. Stories need to make some sense. I can suspend my disbelief and pretend that robots can turn into cars and Darth Vader built C-3PO. (actually I can't do the latter, but that's another website)
I'm sad guys. I'm not angry anymore. I'm disappointed because the first film PROVED that a sci-fi film based on a toy does not need to rely on potty humor to please children and adolescents. It proved that our military does not need to be incompetent whenever it encounters an alien race for the first time. It proved that robots can have individual personalities and don't even need a voice to convey emotion.
Am I being a snob? All I'm asking for is a little continuity. I never expected an Oscar worthy film. I expected a movie worthy of The Transformers saga. A movie where I care about our heroes. I want a movie where the protagonists are in REAL danger. It is perfectly fine for an Autobot to be dropped by helicopter
400 feet to the ground and survive. It is not ok for a sub-compact with 3 passengers to do the same with no casualties.
It is not o.k. to introduce a female Terminator into the film. I know, I know they are called Pretenders, settle down. But I found that out by reading a blog on a website NOT because the movie explained it. And why can't any other Decepticons do that?
It's just lazy film making folks. I'm not going to sit here and enumerate all the things I thought were wrong with the movie. wingdarkness has covered most of it and has received a lot of heat for it.
Which brings me to why I'm even posting this in the first place. I came here expecting to see scores of fans flaming this movie and being outraged at what has become of the franchise. Instead I see a majority defending it!
The most common defense sounds something like: "Dude, it's just a movie. Relax."
I don't understand how all the defenders of this movie can call themselves fans. I'm a HUUUGE Star Wars fan for example. There's stupid $hit all over those movies. And
as a fan I recognize them and am willing to debate them with anybody. But you guys aren't even debating!
Every generation has it's cartoon. Some guys had Superfriends, some had Ninja Turtles, and some had Pokemon. Transformers is mine. and like wingdarkness said:

That's why I care. That's why I'm mad (aside from the $24 I'll never see again). That's why I'm writing. And that's why I'm going to show my girlfriend the Transformers movie from '86. To show her that a kid's cartoon with crappy animation and cheesy music can have a better plot and better characters than a multi-million dollar film.
But don't take it from me. Just ask Stewie. This is EXACTLY what I mean.:
