What Starscreams are your favorite?

Postby Sportimus Prime » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:24 pm

Hi everyone. I'm brand new. :) I go back to the G1 line of Transformers. stopped collecting in the late 1980's, but have recently started up again because of the Alternators. Since then, I've been hooked on the Classics line, and now, the Movie line.

Anyways, a lot has happened, and I missed a lot. Since G1, there have been various versions of Starscream. I've been looking on ebay, and I find myself overwhelmed. Which ones do you think were the best (in order if possible) of that character in the toy lines (Armada, Energon, Cybertron, etc.), and why. Some have cyber keys, others have lights and sounds, some have minicons, on and on. I'm looking for asthetics. The coolest ones, I guess. Your inputs are immensely appreciated. :)

For sheer G1 nostalgia, your top three (in whatever order you want) are G1 or Reissue G1 Starscream, Classics Starscream, and Robotmasters Starscream

To go easy on your budget, there's Legends of Cybertron Starscream. Or, if you REALLY want, go to your local Big Lots, and look for the double-sized knockoff of LOC Starscream.

For a funkified vaguely "War Within" Starscream, you have your choice of any of the Cybertron Starscreams available, or for a SLIGHTLY more accurate (yet not 100%) War Within SS, there's Titanium 6" Starscream

Those are the only ones I have any experiance with, beyond that I cannot say.

Well, I already have the original G1 SS. And recently I found a classics SS. I guess I've sort of narrowed it down to either Energon, Armada, or Cybertron Starscream. Titanium SS is definite, so I'm not counting him. :)

Well, I didn't much care for Armada SS, myself.

Energon SS is about the same size as Classics, but it a little gawkier and has absurdly oversized weapons. However, it would stand on a shelf next to Classics and G1 rather nicely since it's of a similar size.

Cybertron Starscream has two different color schemes at the Voyager level (Japanese has the "standard" Cybertron/GF color scheme, whereas US version has one more appropriate to Thrust), but IMHO is overall a better figure than Energon. Its failing grace is being a full size class larger than Classics and G1. The Supreme Starscream just isn't worth the cash, since it isn't really any more detailed or articulated, just bigger and with electronics added.

So, that's pretty much your choices, then. :D

Whoah, no need to shout! :P

And I definitely do NOT like the Armada version. Saying he's "cool" just because his wings become swords reminds me of the "Realultimatepower" kid. Does this mean that Cyb Sideways and Cyb Wingsaber are also cool because THEIR wings become swords?

Armada Screamer just has too much "backpack" for my tastes. Meh.

Do u know who I'am(my name!)? Personally I love the G1 SS but the Armada version looks flatout bad!

Yes, but you don't have to post "in character" :P

And I agree with you - Armada Starscream looks bad. But I think we're using two different meanings of the word "bad"...

And since they're opinions, i think that's all we need to say. You like it, I don't. Sportimus Prime can go here and make up his own mind:

If you want the best Starscream, then go with the Masterpiece Starscream. He's pricey, but definitely worth it.

This is so. I just skipped it because it's a completely different class of figure than the two he's already got, and really isn't in the same price range.

Besides, supposedly this fall or winter we'll see a US version of MP SS in G1 cartoon colors.

Meh, I'd wait on the MP till we see what Hasbro comes out with later this year for their version.

If you were picking one SS to buy right now, I'd go with the Ehobby Ghost SS. One of my faves. A lil pricey, but well worth it.

Heres a pic from mykooltoyz.

Too complex, and a bit too pricey. The only MP I have is Optimus Prime.

He is really not all that complex. I think it took me like 30 min. the first time. Megs took me 45. Prime actually might have taken me longer the SS the first time.

Damn I hate you. You don't have the black Starscream as well, do you? If you do, I will hte you even more. I kid, I kid :P . Anyways, I love G1 just because he has been one of my favorites since I picked him up 2 years ago. Next is Masterpiece Screamer. The color scheme was crap, but I took care of that w/my silver paint & paintbrush. Now he's beautiful, but I beat myself up since we might get a G1 toon accurate after all the hard damn work I put in not to mention the time. Another reason to hate Hasblo, they make me waste my time. And then there's Classics Starscream, a nice update as well as fun for the G1 lovers. His missiles actually go somewhere(meaning they launch a good distance) & his alt mode makes me smile. I don't really care for Cybertron or Armada Starscream, even if his wings DO transform into swords........................................

Smarty pants Valandar. :-P I wanna see what the Starscream aficionados think the best Starscream figure is over the last 8 or so years.
Personally I think the best is the cyberjet space case in g1 starscream colours. pity it's only a figment of my imagination :P

Heheh.

My fave so far is actually Classics Starscream, though it's not perfec. It COULD have been if they'd just done a few more paint apps (the face as silver with red eyes, the sides of the chest vents red, and the "wheel" black).

MP Starscream is the best for me. I love complicated transformations, which I rate him a 8/10. His character is also brilliant, you don't see a character like GI Starscream anymore, a cowardly but brilliant usurper who can still kick ass.

I believe the original question was which of the unicron trilogy was the best, s here they are in order imo

Energeon-size price similar to classics, and he was available in accurate g1 colours.

Armada-Looks the least like screamer, but a fair decent toy

Cybertron-Meh, I have both but i amn't really pushed about either, its clunky, the transformation is too simple and the colours are all wrong. Although teh cybertron Thundercrackr and Sjywarp look pretty good next to Energeon Screamer, although alone they are pretty sucky.

I think that is comprehensive
"Dammit-You mean he's not dead???" Thats right! Im back and Im leading my Army of Misfits up from the ashes!!!!!!!

My favourite screamer would have to be Supreme Cyb SS,
He's huge!
He's also fairly posable, has great sounds and love his springy-out weapons

Cheers,
Doug

My favorites are the Energon and Classics figures. Wish I had picked up the G1 colored energon version, but that was the same year I moved out of the house.

Where's Sunstar? This would be so up her alley. :P

Samuel L. Jackson?

Anyway, my favorite is probably Galaxy Force Starscream.

He's absolutely awesome, like the Armada version with 3 shots of steroids.

Now as for very very awesome Starscream redecos: TRU Vector Prime/Starscream (AkA Thrust) is pure pimp juice as is Sams Club exclusive Prowl vs Starscream (also AkA Thrust).
