Loved:
1. Optimus Prime - kicking @$$ and taking names. "I'll take you all on!" God bless you, Peter Cullen!
2. Ravage - from being a symbiote of Soundwave, to the whole "robotic kitty from hell" look of his design, he was awesome. Well done - a perfect meshing of G1 homage and new school aesthetics.
3. Starscream - I'm glad our favorite plotter and schemer got more speaking parts this go-round. The Megs-Screamer scene after Megs' resurrection was classic, as was the whole "Not that I'm calling you a coward, Master, but..." line.
4. Sideswipe - "Damn, I'm good!" Yes, yes he is. The use of the wheel-feet was done well, and the disection of Sideways, was sweet. More on 'Swipe in the "stuff I'd have changed" section.
5. Jetfire - a pleasant surprise. Going into the movie, I kept thinking, "How will they pull off a geriatric TF?" Well, they did and it worked.
"Things I'd Change"
1. More air time for Sideswipe. In fact, why couldn't we have Sunstreaker too? I realize that two yellow cars is probably going to cause confusion, so why couldn't he be some kind of a gold color. I can picture the two of them trying to out-do each other throughout the movie and bickering about who looks better, fights better, etc. That wouldn've been much more enjoyable than Skids and Mudflap. Which leads me to....
2. The twins - not because of all the hub-bub about whether the twins are racist or not (I don't think that they are) but instead because I think that they got entirely too much screen time. I'd have rather seen any of the other bots for a few more minutes, and had the twins on screen for about half the time.
3. No Humping - ok, did we really need to see three humping jokes? IMO, the first one was funny, the other two were not needed, especially the Wheelie/Michaela instance. Maybe I'm just getting old....
4. Simmons & the Rail Gun - maybe I missed something (plan to follow closer the second time around) but just how do you explain Simmons being able to order the firing of a weapon that isn't supposed to exist? What ship captain in their right mind would actually follow the orders of some random guy who just happens to know about such a weapon? I'm open to ideas here, but usually those kinds of orders are double and triple checked with Commander-in-Chief authorization. Way too convenient.
5. NEST - how about an explanation of what NEST stands for: National Extraterrestrial Swat Team? Maybe this is in the novel but I didn't hear acronym breakdown in the movie.
For the record, I did enjoy the movie, and will likely see it again in the theatres. I just think that there were some things that could've been done better.
