Where does car interior go in robot mode?

Postby YeekJat » Sat Oct 06, 2007 7:55 pm

This has really been bugging me. When the transformers transform, they get really big, even if they are a small car. I mean, a lot of the car is hollow, so how does this happen? Also, where are the seats and steering wheel? And where does the gas tank go?

That brings another question up. Wouldn't Sam have noticed eventually that his car never needed a trip to the gas station? Unless BB just pissed it out afterwards, and then poor Sam, cuz gas is $$$.

i don't think he had him long enough to notice. how about that big-ass smoke cloud BB put out when sam first drove him?

Maybe the movie TF's have a way to convert gas into energon, like in the G1 Marvel comics?

I dunno, but in G1 they used it, but it never was seen on TV, so maybe he fuels up when you aren't looking. although a concept car drws lots of attention.

I get that the interior moves around and folds up, and that they probably don't run on gas, but still, how does BB get so huge in robot mode, when his car mode is really small.

I've been thinking the same thing, and I'm going into the CGI field. The TF's still look fake to me because their complicated transformations that needed a mathmatical algorithm to create still are done too fast for us to notice how they work.

I'm not sure the transformations took seats into account. There's a part where Bumblebee transforms into a car and his windows are black. Maybe they are anyway, but that seems like a convinient excuse to hide all the robot parts in the car, and just use the regular vehicle for the next shot.

They are surprisingly fake looking, from the ent-like way they walk to the super fast transformations. Yeah they're detailed and awesome, yeah they're rendered wonderfully, but they still look fake. And coming from me, that means something because I almost always defend CG effects.
Buy my RiD toys! They're awesome, I promise!!!!

Looks fine to me, because you see where all the peices go and shift, although panel lines are invisible as a car/whatever.
And, I wouldn't call the new Camaro small......unless you mean the original (and much cooler) 77.

When Sam popped the hood open with Mikela (s/p) the engine bay had a regular engine so its not too much of a stretch to think that they have a gas tank and having it morph and shuffle like everything else does during transformation. Having said that, it seems like these robots were cars that turned into robots, in much the same way the all spark turned regular consumer devices into robots, than robots that are in disguise as cars.

Mostly they folded up in the chest or the back, though in the case of Skids, he gets a rather prounced set of rear cheeks.

As for the movie transformations, what if it isn't a case of pre-existing parts and hiding them from one form to another, but breaking apart the components just as does the shell break up. Say for instance the hands of Bumblebee, instead of staying hands hidden inside of a car, break up into all the little gears, nodes, plates, and pieces and recombine into, say, the simulation of the engine. The padding of the seats could end up moving to the chest cavity to provide padding around vital components. Or, perhaps just as likely, a fluidic molecular structure constrained only by the memory capacity of the individual transformer to retain shapes?

The alternators seats fold up and move around, but still, especially with sideswipe, the seats are under the chest, but it looks dumb. How do they do it in the movie, but keep the robots looking cool?

In the movie robots, the seats, etc., fold up much more than the Alternators / Binaltechs. In those toys, the seats probably have one or two fold lines (normally a hinge where the backrest meets the seat cushion), but in the movie the seats fold up at many different sections and move around more. I'd wager this is the official explanation, anyway.

As for gas, Bumblebee is probably wise to the fact that Earth cars run on gas and so would likely simulate the effects of low gas (altering the metre, running slow or whatever), allowing Sam to take him to the gas station. Sam would then fill up and Bumblebee would either store the petrol in his tank or ditch it in transit. Maybe.

Here's another question: Where does the robot head go in alt mode?

It just folds away and tucks in somewhere. But in the Movie Prime's head itself had a lot of sliding parts.

I've noticed the same. Well, it does come out from the driver's seat. It would be very annoying if his head watches you while you're driving.

And how do they see in vehicle mode? Through the headlights?

Maybe their eyes go somewhere... Perhaps in the headlights. This question isn't only about the movie, it is about all the TF series. And in TF: Cybertron their headlights were lighting and darking during talking in vehicle mode.
