It is a seperate story based in the current G1 inspired IDW publishing universe.

Starscream has been the only character actively working to revitalize and save Cybertron. The Autobots have all but given up.

Even though Starscream effectively filled the power vaccuum left by Megatron's "death" he knows well enough to step back and bide his time when Soundwave showed up.

i agree that movie starscream is cool but he kinda takes shockwaves job of only thinking logically
